Can another safety help the pass rush?
Joe Gibbs thought LaRon Landry was the best defensive player in the draft, so he made him the sixth pick after repeated efforts to trade down. Now the Redskins have two of the most talented safeties in the league -- Landry and Sean Taylor, who was the fifth pick in the 2004 draft. The problem is the Redskins passed over a pass-rusher, Jamaal Anderson, to take Landry. The Redskins are calling all around to see if a veteran pass-rusher is available. The Redskins had only 19 sacks last season. Without any pressure on the quarterback, opponents had a 97.8 quarterback rating against them. Unless the Redskins can find a way to get a pass rush, Landy and Taylor might get a lot of opportunities to get tackles downfield.

Patience is a virtue.
Trading future picks for guys who most likely will be released after June 1st is unwise.
Just wait and see who's released, and add some depth. I think a lot of the problem was run supper from Marshall in the middle, and the Human Missed Tackle (Holdman) on the outside. If London and Rocky can just tackle. That will give up less runs, and create more throwing situations, which guys like Smoot, Macklin and Landry want.

I agree to give up picks is what we have done in the past for guys that never panned out like AA

. It really seems like they turnned it around this off season. I say wait and see becuse I belive the guys we got this team will turn some heads.

There is a happy medium between trading all our picks, and overloading on pics like Dallas does. Neither has gotten us anywhere (Well, alittle less for them)
See what's out there after June 1st. I doubt you'll find a starter. But a 3rd DT or 4th DE is possible.

i don't mind giving pic's for a guy who will produce. We just haven't had luck with that so i really would like to see us wait. Its only one more month Danny boy....Relax. Its ok to go into the draft with all your picks.

With the money we're paying Andre, Phillip, DEvans, and Renaldo we shouldn't even have to have this conversation. one or two of these guys needs to produce in the sack dept. for us to win, or else.

They will. You will see penetration like you have never seen before. I think that health has been such an issue year in and year out that if they can get the young guys in there early and give the older guys plays off, we stand a chance to make things happen. I'm going with faith here. I just have a feeling that this is going to be a special year.

i think AC will continue playing well like he started down the stretch last year and the other guys will just have to step up on the other side like they did in '05. with our revamped secondary the QB may have to hold the ball an instant longer which may in itself up the sack total

How veteran???
By the way, the best pair of Redskin DE's were Manley and Mann. Dexter was about a 4th round pic, and Sir Charles Mann was about a 5th.
It's hard to predict, but not so many Redksin 1st round picks have been a success. Going back to 1960, I can remember:
- Norm Snead (no, he was not a bag of trash, even if he wasn't Sonny)
- Ernie Davis -> Bobby Mitchell
- Charlie Taylor
- Art Monk
- Mark May
- Champ Bailey
...and who else? Have I forgotten anything?

I actually have a hard time saying LaVar was in the same stratosphere as Shuler. LaVar went to multiple pro-bowls. Shuler put opposing CBs IN multiple pro-bowls.
I mean if you want to talk bust, we have such 1st round luminaries as Bobby Wilson and Andre Johnson we can talk about. Or hell, even Michael Wastebrook.

Green... "blind spot up close". Working from memory. Agreed. I was thinking more about Shuler and Westbrook.
Off-hand, I'd say that Ken Houston and Richie Petibon (even in his last two years) were about ten times better than Sean Taylor. Both put themselves in the right place at the right time, rather than made the TV highlight splatter hit. (Petibon and Pardee were defensive coaches on the field.)
Consider Houston, tough-guy Walt Garrison, and the Monday Night Game back when everybody watched. Until Sean Taylor learns to use his head for something better than spitting, he doesn't rate mentioning in the same breath as Houston and Petibon.
