I've heard that the redkins already agreed with Brunnel on a 7th year 63 million (espn.com) but if you look on redskins.com and nfl.com it doesn't says anything so how sure we are on this topic?

probably backloaded as all get out and most of the money won't be coming for 3-4 years into the contract. reduces the cap hit big time.

He's 34, and injury prone, so he might be here for 2 years tops. Hope it's worth risking Ramsey's happiness...

It's not like Ramsey is a Pro Bowl or Super Bowl QB. You guys are complaing as though he is Joe Montana. Ramsey may be a bust. Yeah, he has put out more blood, sweat and tears than I will as a fan, but what has he done for the team?

So what his feeling get hurt. He needs to deal with it, play his game, and who knows maybe he will be the starter. If he is good as we all think why should a little competition bother him.

I think his (Ramsey's) agents feelings are hurt more than Ramsey's. He will be ok, he's a good smart kid.

Here comes the tests:

1. Will Gibbs keep his word and have an open FAIR competition?

2. Will Brunell tutor Ramsey like Vinny Testeverde helped out Pennington OR will Brunell act like Flutie and backstab his competition?

Why wouldn't he? What possible motive could Gibbs have for starting an inferior quarterback?

Come Week 1, the better quarterback will be playing. I don't care what he told Brunell or Ramsey, Gibbs is going to put the absolute best product on the field he can. Someone else here mentioned the 1991 situation, when Gibbs told Stan Humphries (a good quarterback in his own right) that the job was his to lose. Mark Rypien came into camp and wiped the floor with Humphries, and started every game that year.

Please, someone tell me why Gibbs wouldn't start Ramsey if beats out Brunell in training camp?

He wouldn't - read some of the bio material I put up about him - the part about him winning the 35+ racquetball championship practicing til the wee small hours of the morning after doing all his film study etc. with the Chargers impresses me with how much he wants success. He will start PRam if he feels in his heart that he is the best QB.

Brunell may have large money accounted for in the later years but I would be willing to wager he will be a minimum cap hit in the first 3-4. For goshsakes his bonus cap hit right now will be 1 mil a year plus change. THAT is why the 7 year contract. 8 million divided by 7 years. If he gets paid 500k in the first couple of years or even a mil, his cap hit won't be more that 1.5-2 mil a year. That doesn't guarantee a starting spot.

So why are we paying 5 million a year for an injury prone backup quarterback and giving up our third round pick. Even if he does beat out Ramsey in camp, he hasn't finished a season in a long time. WHEN Brunell goes down with an injury, we'll end up right back where we started with Ramsey at QB. What a stupid trade and contract.

WE AREN'T.

Ok - contracts are backloaded, meaning that most of the money is in the last years. If the player DOESN'T play them, they DON'T get that money.

The bonus is the ONLY GUARANTEED MONEY. 8 million dollars plus a smaller base salary will have Brunell only hitting us up for 1-2 mil a year for the first 3-4 years at which time I believe he will retire. There will be some cap hit after that for the bonus, but most of the money on the contract (probably 30 mil of it) is after year 4.

Look at Lavar's deal - his cap hit is so small due to the fact that he is almost taking veteran minimum along with the bonus - his hit is only like 2 mil a year for the first 3 years on a HUGE contract - like 68 million. Get it? We aren't going to pay Brunell 43 million right now. He might get 1.5 mil this year. The seven years is to slow down the bonus hitting the cap space.

Ok - if we signed him to a 2 or 3 year deal the bonus money would be 8 mil divided by 2 or 3... that would be 2.6 to 4 mil a year. Divided by 7 it is just over one million a year. That is then added to the salary to determine the total hit. If his contract is as backloaded as we believe it to be, he probably will cost us 6-7 mil over the next 3 years.

Trust me - it isn't bad.

One thing that might crop up is that Ramsey's agent is also Chris Samuels' agent. I don't think anyone has reworked their contract (for cap room) more often or willingly than #60.

But what happens the next time they ask Samuels for help? Agents aren't above using the "you didn't do any favors for my other client [Ramsey], so why should we do one for you now?"

I cannot believe people do not have more faith in Gibb's decisions.

I will stand out and say that Joe Gibbs is a Hall of Fame coach, and has won 3 Super Bowls but he is a human being and human beings make decisions and sometimes the decisions are wrong.

The thing with Joe is, he will make less bad decisions due to his experience. But there will be times when he muffs it up (like the play he called against the Raiders that got picked of for a TD).

Yeah, Joe is great. The man. The saviour.
But he is not perfect and thinking so will only set you up to be disapointed. He has stated it many times, "Forget the past, all that matters is going forward, it will be really hard, and it will take time" ...during that time a human being can make some mistakes and fans can share their opinions on them.

just a couple weeks ago everbody is gung ho about gibbs coming back and now people are questioning what he is doing.thats a crock of s***.gibbs know exactly what he is doing. I mean a couple more good talents on the team and we are tlaking about a serious playoff contender real soon possibly the superbowl.take a look at brunells numbers -9th rated passer in nfl history.not bad considering what we have had in the past 12 years.i also think we can a good deal for champ to.we are talking a first and second round pick for him.that would be great.just everybody give gibbs time look at what he has already done.
