Yes, he's been a waste. We could at least have a young receiver to groom in his spot if we're going to have someone do nothing in games.

I really don't blame our WRs for their inability to produce over the past few years, I blame Brunnel. I think Patten could have performed if Campbell was our QB. I think we have quality WRs and it'll prove itself out this year with Campbell, Portis, etc...
I agree that a younger WR at #5 is the way to go. A guy who can help out on special teams.

I think the phrase "He's been a waste" is a bit extreme. Sure, he hasn't produced for us but he didn't have one opportunity due to health. We shouldn't have signed him in the first place but he was more of a mentor guy. I wish him luck. I would imagine that he is done. JLC said that this will save us $725K against the cap. More importantly, that opens up one more spot for a WR to fill.

I've been a defender of Lloyd for the reason of our QB issues, but Lloyd had a few nice moves and catches and he wasn't here the one good year MB had. Patton was and still did nothing. If he's been a good mentor then I'm glad to hear that, but on the field he's been a zero.

Ok, he's gone guys...jeez!
The most important issue now is -- what does he do to our cap?
Do we save money on the 2007 cap or do we have more dead cap hit than his salary would have counted?

Depends on if the designate him "post June 1" or not, I don't think they did so he'll save a little on the cap. His '07 cap hit was about $3.0m and the dead cap will be roughly $2.3m so they saved about $725k by cutting him now. If designated he'd count almost $1.8m this year and $1.25 in '08.
Looks like they a clearing the books for next year so don't look for a June designation on him... but don't be surprised if the team uses "both" that are available.

Sign me up for the blame brunell, what a joke #8 is, if mark brunell was half the qb Joe Gibbs thinks he is, we would already have won the SB.

How can Brunell be blamed for David not being on th active roster for most of the time he was here?
Mark may have hinder some of the recievers on the roster and may have even slowed the growth of Campbell. He as zero blame when it come to DP

My money says he goes back to NE.
Too bad. When we landed him, I was thinking we had ourselves a nice, productive #2 WR.
Too fragile, it seems. Good luck to him.

no.....if our defense could have stopped an easy run and got pressure on the qb then we MAY have been atleast a hope for a superbowl win. You can't say that Campbell would have led last years team to the superbowl....ohh...and Brunell was a backup the year he led us to the playoffs (behind ramsey...yeah that worked out really great) and no i'm not saying brunell is great and that he should be starting but there is no reason to say that it was his fault we didn't win a superbowl....that statement is just idiotic.

Thrash has been more productive then Patton on the field, he's had some drive sustaining catches even if there aren't a ton of them. But more importantly he's been a big special teams contributor so I don't see it as the same as a receiver only who doesn't get any catches.

come on now guys we can a bit classier then some of these comments im seeing.. David Patten was a well respected vet who when he was healthy put his body on the line for us.. case in point the Texans game weve all seen that catch and while he made not have done alot its not because he came here and tanked it on plays or was a distraction he caught a bad break with some injuries and had an inconsistent brunnell at QB..
Im proud to be a Redskins fan lets try and be classiers fans then the rest alot of you are making us look like eagles and cowboys fans which is pretty sad since they have no class..

I agree, I definitely would have liked to see Patten on the field more often (I think the significance of his injury two seasons ago is understated) but I bear no ill will toward the man. I wish him all the best (just not in the NFC East)
