The Washington Redskins have agreed to trade safety Adam Archuleta to the Chicago Bears for a conditional sixth-round draft pick. Archuleta restructured his contract to soften the salary-cap hit the Redskins will have to take this season, and now Washington will get back a draft pick for him. Bears coach Lovie Smith was Archuleta's defensive coordinator in St. Louis and has coveted the safety since he took over as Chicago's head coach in January 2004. He finally has gotten his man.

Depends what the overall cost is.

If it gives us cap room then it is a good deal.

Wow, I'm glad that they could get that done. Archuleta was a bad fit for this team, and they have seemed to realize that after 1 year.

It's nice that they softened the blow of the cap hit and also got a draft pick for him.

I think it is great for both sides. He didn't even talk to the coaching staff for a big portion of last year (according to the Post) and we get a draft pick for a player that we probably would have cut. We also reduce the cap hit.

This is a good trade. There are good, blue collar players that make it late in the draft, and hopefully we can find one, maybe a good interior defensive lineman, or maybe a solid Guard that can develop.

ESPN says we got a 6th Round pick and the article gives info on the new contract.

NFL Network and ESPN's John Clayton report the Redskins have traded safety Adam Archuleta to the Bears in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick.

Washington worked a new contract that will pay Archuleta $8.1 million over the next three years. Archuleta had a terrible 2006 in D.C. but Bears coach Lovie Smith will know how to best use his skills in the box and in coverage. He'll likely replace Todd Johnson as the Bears' third safety and could start while Mike Brown recovers from his Lisfranc injury

I wouldn't mind if we paid the Bears to take him with our 6th pick! I don't care about the cap hit either! I'm just glad he's off our team!

You can't get too greedy. Any pick is better than no pick, especially considering how little he contributed to this team.

He's honestly not worth more than a 6th round pick.

I dunno man, AA was a beast in Lovie's defense in St. Louis, and Lovie thinks he can make him good again

probably will. i just hope the cap relief was big. real big.

Not every player fits in any scheme. Smoot is a prime example. He did well here but fell flat on his face in Minnesota. AA did not fit here. I wish him well in Chicago.

I actually do think is worth a 4th round pick at most, he is a solid player who just had a terrible year on the wrong team with the wrong scheme.

The pick is said to may be go up to a fifth rounder

I'm not really sure I understand the frustration here. After last year, every Redskins fan was calling for his head because he did terribly and obviously didn't play up to his huge contract. Now that he's gone, you want more than the pick the Redskins got for him?

How can you have it both ways? And I also doubt that the Redskins really cared whether the pick was a 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick. They're just glad that he's gone and moved on somewhere else. He was never a good fit for this team.

Wow. Get a pick, get rid of that salary AND be able to lessen the cap hit... this is a great move. He was nothing better than a 3rd string, unhappy player. Not sure what the cap hit would have been, but it would not have shocked me if he would have been cut at some point this off season.

It's just how can 1 year a guy get the most lucrative contract of any player at his position and the next be worth only a 6th, he would have been worth more if he never played a down.

Yeah that's the thing that most people were missing. We got a 6th when honestly, he was probably going to be cut later this year anyways.

Agreed. This one was a gift and we are not in a position to be handing out gifts.

Well... something is better than nothing, but a 6th rounder? That tells me the Skins really were desperate to get rid of him. This after Gibbs said, not that long ago, that he expected AA to be here and be a contributor next year. I guess you have to take everything with a grain of salt this time of year. Still not that bad of a deal. Glad it's done.

We get some cap relief, rid of a player we weren't using, and a draft pick...thats a great deal.

You might want to attend redskin1's seminar on the real way to interpret contracts - AA was not in the top 10 of salaries paid to safeties last year - the media distorts the true value of these "contracts" because nobody ever plays for the length of the contract - this is business 101 in the NFL.

this is a good deal for both teams and probably for AA as well.

Beggers can't be choosers. Obviously it would be nice to have a better pick but I'm happy we're getting more involved in the draft no matter where the pick is.

Hopefully Arch will do better in Chi-town but I just don't think it would have worked out here in D.C. had he stayed.

I'm just happy that we are getting an extra pick to get rid of a washed up player INSTEAD of giving up a pick to get a washed up player.

This is the best offseason in several years!!!!!!!!!!!!!
