Who Cares About 40 times?

I think that this is the time of year where since there is no football being played, everyone forgets that that is why these players are doing pro days and combine workouts, they are football players.
That should be the first and most important thing that anyone looks at. The best way to evaluate a player in my mind would be to do all your player rankings simply based on collegiate performance. Then after all the workouts, those results should be simply used as reinforcements for players stock, but should not hurt a players stock.
I think the most idiotic thing in the world is when the combine's measurable tests change who a team wants to draft. Think about the logic, "man this player dominated at USC (DWayne Jarrett for examples sake) for his entire career, but he doesn't run in shorts and underarmour on this turf fast enough so we're gonna take this guy who did instead"
Anyone that plays or has played football really knows what I am talking about. a players game play is what matters the most, not a almost completely irrelevant set of tests. While they are somewhat valuable in terms of comparing players side by side, i feel they are valued too much, and are often misleading.
i'd like to close with a few official combine results, that may intrigue and enlighten all of you.
-Chad Johnson 40yd: 4.57
-Anquan Boldin 40yd: 4.72
-Larry Fitzgerald 40yd: 4.63 No one questions their
-Marques Colston 40yd: 4.50 speed now
-Ricky Williams 40yd: 4.56
-Rudi Johnson 40yd: 4.57
-Travis Henry 40yd: 4.61
-Chris McCallister 40yd: 4.53
-Dre Bly 40yd: 4.51
