I'll arrive in Newport News in Novemberish of this year and be there for 3 years. It's so new it's not even finished yet, and won't be complete until Nov of 08.

What's really exciting for me is I'll be close enough to go to some frick'n games/tailgates/camps and meet many of you. I'm looking forward to it.

Now what's the ship equivalent to the plane on a treadmill question?

Ship in a lap pool?

Congrats.

I know of at least one.
On the map of the ship, the location is noted as "over the side".

One stupid issue affecting "life aboard a naval vessel" is Chief/Officer heads and enlisted heads. You could have urine running down your leg, but dare not use an officer head. It's quite insulting. One thing I would change if I were able. Since the commisioning ceremony will probably take place around the same time as my re-enlistment, I'm going to try to have papa Bush perform the ceremony. Only drawback to this whole shebang is I've not exactly heard good things about the Newport News area. Would love some feedback about NN and Norfolk if anyone has some pointers...negative/positive feedback both appreciated.

Man just be careful ok. And IF you go into harms way be real careful. And What you stated about Officer Heads. That is some of the dumbest crap that I have ever heard. But I actually believe you. I have an uncle who served on a ship. He told all kinda crap like this. Glad I joined the ARmy. I never ventured into officers clubs either. Too much trouble too easy to get into. I Forgot to mention that I am Proud of you man.

Spent 4 years as a 19D10 (armored cavalry scout) in Fulda and Schweinfurt Germany. Different animal completely. Don't regret either choice, though I do miss the espirit de corps that the Army brings to the table.
