Briggs wants out?Mon, 5 Mar 2007 07:21:43 -0800
Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs says he does not want to play another game for the team unless the Bears rescind the franchise tag placed on him this offseason. "There's a difference between the Chicago Bears team and the Chicago Bears organization," Briggs said Sunday, March 4. "The Chicago Bears team? The coaches, players, city and fans? Yeah, I could stay there forever. I love it. But the Chicago Bears organization? I don't want to be there anymore. I won't play for them and I'll do everything in my power to keep from playing there." "They need to either [rescind] the franchise tag, and let me move on, or trade me to another team," Briggs added. "Because that's about the only way this thing can have any kind of a positive resolution."

I just saw that. Why do the Bears keep doing this?

The Bears have one of the worst FO's in the entire league.

That's a little harsh. That same front office has found a fair bit of talent in the draft. They can't be all bad, even if they handled Coach Smith's contract extension poorly. And players complaining about the franchise tag is nothing new. Briggs isn't the first, and he won't be the last.

Nah, they're just cheap. They draft well.

Exactly, that is what I meant by "worst FO". The need to pay to play. Just like paying to get a real QB so they could actually win a superbowl. Oh well, it just makes our chances better.

True dat.
Mind you, Briggs has always said it is about the winning. Well, he was offered $33m to come back to a winning franchise and turned it down hence the Franchise tag. Guess it's not really about the winning but the bling-bling. Oh well. We've all been down that route before and we'll all be down that route again I reckon.
Would love to see him end up on the Skins somehow, some way though.

We don't need anymore almost-champs looking for a big pay day over here.
Using the word "interchangeable", though...sounds like the same kind of arrogance GW has been accused of.

The same front office traded their 1000 yard back in order to swap 2nd round picks. The Jets got T Jones and the #60th pick in the second round and the Bear only got the #37th pick. Had the Skins done that the world would be coming down on "the Danny" for being stuoid.

They got in essence, value wise, 3rd round pick value for trading him. I think that's decent value.
It's not like he's LaDanian Thomlinson. Jones was a total bust before he got to the Bears, after all.

T. Jones was no great loss. Good-to-fair backs are a dime a dozen in this league. Heck, Travis Henry has had more 1000+ yards than Jones, and just got cut by the Titans. Anyone signed him yet? There's Jones' replacement right there.
Whoops, I see that Henry got signed.

Jones has had back to back 1200 yd seasons while sharing time the past 2 years. Best Bears back since Payton, statistically, believe it or not.

Agreed. The Bears are cheap.
