'SKINS TURN TO PETITGOUT
A league source tells us that, with Leonard Davis off of the market, the Redskins are now looking at former Giants left tackle Luke Petitgout.
But the 'Skins aren't interested in Petitgout as a left tackle. Instead, he would be moved inside, to replace left guard Derrick Dockery, who signed on Friday with the Bills.
Petitgout was a first-round pick in 1999, and has spent his entire career with the Giants. His 2006 season was shortened by a broken leg. Last week, Petitgout visited the Bucs, and passed a physical.

The link says he passed their physical, but I think he may be damaged goods.

Not exactly.
"This season, Petitgout started the first nine games of the season before fracturing his left fibula in the first half of a game against Chicago on Nov. 12. He was inactive for six games as the Giants hoped he would be able to return late in the season. But when Petitgout
failed to make sufficient progress in his recovery, he was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 26.

On a personal level I'd love to see Luke sign with the Skins. I've met him he's a good guy, does alot of work here in DE where's he's from and lives in the offseason. Professionally not sure he can play guard...but he'd give us depth at T. I'm sure Luke would love to catch on with us or Philly.

Philly's stocked at OLine. Some of their fans are even calling to cut Tra Thomas because he's old and has injury issues.
I think Pettigout is ours.

Luke Petitgout Is In The House
Petitgout is in the building, there for a free agent visit. Former left tackle for the Giants would be moved to guard to replace Dockery should he sign. Had some knee problems but the word is he passed Tama's physical over the weekend. Also, he recently dropped his old agents and hired, you guessed it, Drew Rosenhaus, which never hurts when it comes to The Snyder.
From digging around over the weekend, there weren't too many hot names I heard as far as O Line and Washington. Some inside the building like Adam Timmerman, who played for Al Saunders in St. Louis and would know the terminoligy, but others feel the veteran is probably through as a productive player given age and wear and tear. Some would like to see the guard spot addressed in the draft if the team trades down as it hopes - it's an easy position to plug in from the draft in the mid rounds often - and there are other guys on the street who started in the league and might come cheep.
Cosey Coleman (Cleveland) and Cooper Carlisle (Denver) have not drawn interest from the Skins as of yesterday, I heard, but guys like that will likely still be around later this week, and some, like Miami's Jeno Jones, are recovering from injuries but expect to be able to pass a physical come April or May, and the Skins could wait it out and wade into that market as well.
Also, besides Todd Yoder, I have not been able to firmly track down another TE the Skins have spoken to. Guys like Seidman, Wiggins, Tony Stewart never heard a thing, and one guy who got some high grades internally, Reggie kelly, is on his third or fourth free agent visit today and will likely get some serious coin.
Anyway, I'll keep plugging away.
Cheers.

If the money is not to high I think this could be a good fit.

Free agent offensive lineman Luke Petitgout visited Redskins Park on Monday. He met with team officials and departed the facility in the afternoon.
Petitgout has played his entire 8-year NFL career with the New York Giants. He has mostly played left tackle in his time with the Giants.
In 1999, Petitgout's rookie season, he started eight games at left guard. A year later, he moved to right tackle, where he started all 16 games.
In 2001, Petitgout moved to left tackle, a position he has occupied through last season.
If signed by the Redskins, the 6-6, 310-pounder could be slotted to take over the left guard position. Derrick Dockery, last year's starter, signed with the Buffalo Bills last Friday.
Petitgout could also serve as a backup at either tackle positions along the offensive line.
Petitgout was slowed by back problems in 2003, but otherwise has been durable and consistent with the Giants. He has missed just 15 games in his career, started 106-of-113 games.
Last season, Petitgout started nine games at left tackle, then suffered a fractured fibula that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Petitgout, who grew up in Milford, Del., played his college ball at Notre Dame. He was the Giants' first-round draft pick (19th overall) in the 1999 NFL Draft.

I wouldn't mind us signing him! He's got experience and his injury was just a broken leg! Its not like a torn ACL or anything.

But it lead to the question: Why won't the Giants sign him if he's so good. I mean he was their starting left tackle. It just makes me wonder.

Brief Update by Jason La Canfora
Heard Petitgout had a very nice visit to the Park before taking off back home (he lives in Delaware).
Heard he looked good and appeared healthy according to some (Petitgout broke his fibula in November), and the film the straff watched on him was pretty impressive. In fact, at least a few people were wondering why exactly the Giants cut him in the first place, thinking maybe there was something unknown. 'Cause he looked good, he didn't save the Giants much of a cap hit, he's been a quality statting LT in this league for a long time and he just got a $10-million signing bonys from the G-men in 2003.
So what gives?
Anyway, NFL people say he has suffered from back problems, but I would't rule out the Skins getting something done barring him looking for another Dockery deal (he recently fired his Tom Condon and hired Rosenhaus, so with him that's always a possibility).
Negotiations between the Skins and Petitgout are ongoung, and he already visited Tampa and has drawn interest from other teams as well. However, there is not a sense from the Skins that they need to dive in here, either, and as I've said, this is a position where some coaches feel you can plug in from a mid-level free agent or draft pick.
