The 9ers ???

Last year after we grabbed Carter, Rumph and Lloyd , and they wound up with Jacobs and Harris, I joked that the Niners were replacing the Jets as our "farm" team. Well they signed Clements to a monster deal, and just signed WR Ashley Lelie to a two-year deal and are now targeting Stallworth. Did they get free agency advise from "the Danny" as part of one of those many deals we made with them last year?
After 2 days...
CB Nate Clements (Bills)
S Michael Lewis (Eagles)
DT Aubrayo Franklin (Ravens)
WR Ashley Lelie (Falcons)

Not sure about that Lelie signing, no matter how much the deal is for.
I haven't seen him produce since he's been in the league...

Yeah I doubt that'll work out too. Maybe that's why they are going after Stallworth also.
They also extended Walt Harris today, not sure "the Danny" would have given that kind of advise last year

Yeah if they get Stallworth, that might be a pretty good offense. Depending on how Alex Smith develops, they'll have Gore and Vernon Davis to build around.
I wonder how much losing Norv Turner as the O-Coordinator will hurt though. If there's one thing he's great at, it's the offense.
Just not as head coach....

I think that they had something like $38 million in cap space. Remember the league actually mandates that you spend a certain percentage of your cap space and the 9er's were way under that.

They were $37.5 million under the cap, that's $500,000 more than what the Titans started with. So far the 9ers have went crazy and the Titans have freed up another $8.5 million

So, what happens if you don't use the alloted percentage of the cap money?
And what are the titans going to spend thier money on? As the better palyers get taken off the board does it make sense to spend huge chunks of money on journeymen, just to satisfy a league rule?

Yep, and they will be praised for those additions. But if Snyder had signed those guys... well you know... the bashing would have been relentless, even though it still is.

To be fair to the Titans, all they did to free that $8.5M was cut one player. RB Travis Henry was slated to earn an $8.3M roster bonus.
I'd have freed the space too, wouldn't you?

Yeah it was a no brainer, had it been the Skins we would have been letting go of a valuable player do to the past free spending in the offseason.
The Titans are only avoiding paying a large roster bonus

If you don't use enough cap, I am pretty sure you have to pay each player an equal share of what you didn't use under the minimum cap.
Either that is the rule or a possible rule. It keeps teams like the Cardinals from not using cap and profiting too much off shared revinue.

I'm pretty sure that's a cap rule in the NBA... not sure about the NFL though...

Wait, yeah, you might be right.
I truly was just throwing an idea out trying to sound smart. Thanks for blowing my plan.
