Skins not impressed with Branch or Adams...

The Redskins were reportedly underwhelmed by Clemson DE Gaines Adams at the combine.
The report comes from the always-reliable Jason LaConfora at the Washington Post. The Post believes that the Redskins are more interested in free agent defensive linemen because they weren't blown away by Adams or Michigan DT Alan Branch.

That truly bothers me. Every analyst in the league loved the way they look. Things like this piss me off about GW so much. It is like he is scared to take on someone raw. YOU MOLD THE GUYS INTO GREAT PLAYERS, you don't go after a patrick kerney. This articles disgusted me

I've come to the conclusion that this is our fate. We suck again.

Still, a team with the Redskins' financial resources cannot be underestimated. After being unimpressed with Clemson's Gaines Adams and intrigued but not overwhelmed by Michigan defensive tackle Alan Branch -- though sources said the team liked its non-workout meeting with Arkansas defensive end Jamaal Anderson -- sources at the NFL scouting combine last week said the Redskins were deeply interested in former Virginia defensive end Patrick Kerney, an eight-year veteran who has played his entire career with Atlanta. The Broncos appear to have the inside edge on Kerney.
In something of a long shot, the Redskins also could be in the running for left defensive end Michael Strahan, who met with New York Giants officials this week in an attempt to be traded. Strahan has two years left on his current contract.

We're going to get one of those rookies.

I can seriously scream right now. What did they see out of Branch and Adams that they didn't like. Adams blazing speed, Branchs bulk????? How did they turn around and think "wow what we need is Patrick Kerney" I hope to god for their sake this isn't true because this is enough for me to get pushed over the edge with Gibbs and GW.

Rumor has it that both players take plays off. They don't have a motor that can run full speed all game. Now Anderson does. It'll be interesting.

I think that is fixable, do you agree. If GW and Gibbs are great coaches than they get these guys to go full throttle all game. As far as Branch, I am a monster mich fan and Lloyd Carr sucks the big one. Early in his career took plays off, this past year he really didn't because our new d coordinator Ron English is one of those high energy guys

Maybe they're right in their assessments of these guys.
Perhaps they're so underwhelmed that they are more willing to trade down for more picks, to pick up an unknown that might play better than the prized rookies.
Just a thought.

It is a possibility but tons of people fell in love with both of these guys at the combine, now all of a sudden only the skins are the ones that dont like them. Also that isn't even my biggest problem, PATRICK KERNEYY!!!!! This is the guy thats going to get our d back to where it should be. I don't buy it

This would explain the rumor that the scouting department will be blown up after the draft.

Maybe the Skins came away from the interview sessions underwhelmed with both of them?
You can like someone's athleticism and still think he's a bad fit, personality or intelligence wise, for your team.

With regards to the big 3 in the draft, now that the lions traded for a tackle, it is very feasable two of them will be gone at 6. I also cannot see exactly what they don't see in Gaines Adams. Have they watched any film on him? I'm guessing Lemar Marshall and Warrick Holdman are much more worthy of being starters on Williams defense? They don't appreciate talent if they don't like Adams or Branch.

This league is based on athleticism. It is not a chess league. There is not much the players have to do other than know the plays. Maybe a MLB should be smart and a qb but other than that character and intelligence play second fiddle. Unless you have Pacman Jones or somebody draft the most athletic ppl you can. Sign the most athletic ppl you can. Not old people. If they bring in Kerney they are just perpetuating their lack of faith in winning because drafting is winning. Not signing over the hill starters. The problem is that everybody has to be smart on Williams defense because he thinks he is god and won't simplify his reportoire so his team can beast.

Heart trumps talent every time. Joe knows this, and maybe doesn't see it in those cats. I can't speak about their talent levels, but if heart is a question, 'tis better not to try to make a squre peg fit into the round hole.

I'd rather gamble on players that are potential superstars/potential busts than mess around with players that are never going to be athletic enough to make it in this league. It is just asenine not to acquire players based on abilitly. The redskins have not covered as well since they lost smoot. The cowboys receiving core was much better because of T.O. Vince Young did badly on the wonderlic, but look at him now. If the coaches are worth their money, they can mold gifted athletes into great players.

A lot of you guys seem mesmorized by potential and what players could be one day. And that's fine because, for the most part, that's what the draft is all about.
But how do you think you build good franchises? The Patriots don't really play that game, and the same could be said for several other very good organizations. Sometimes you have to stick with what you are and go with your gut on what players you want.
You need a mix of athletic freaks and smart guys who fit a system. Don't let some of these guys be overhyped by the combine.
I'm not sure what the Redskins will do, but so far so good this offseason...

I agree with this, I've heard the same thing several times. I like Anderson better anyway.

What are you talkin about? The patriots build throught the draft better than most teams. Maroney, Seymour, I think they drafted bruschi,Logan Mankins, TOM BRADY, they probably drafted Vrabel, the young corners they have im sure they drafted. They just draft smart and use all their picks and usually trade down to get a lot of picks. No good team builds through free agency. it is impossible.

You just made my point for me. No where did I ever say anything about free agency in what I wrote. No one wanted Tom Brady or Mankins or Logan, etc. They picked them up late because they were smart and could evaluate talent.

oh ok i misunderstood i thought you were knocking the draft. Sometimes it is smart to drop back and punt if you dont like the players available. But there isn't much not to like about Adams Branch and Anderson.

Im telling u guys Gaines is way too small. If we add Gaines that would give us the smallest Duo of Defensive Ends.
Furthermore maybe that opens the door for us to take Jamal A. who is an athletic freak. Ive seen Gaines get blown back several times against the run.
How is gaines going to be effective if we are giving up 100 plus yards a game against the rush? Carter and Adams two small D ends = us getting run on all day.
Draft either Branch or Jamal Anderson. Patrick Kearney wont be the savior but is a definate upgrade.
This is just an example of Gaines Adams getting bulldozed by a college player. Can u imagine what an NFL Lineman would do to him the guy is a fine pass rusher. But we need to stop the bleeding against the run. Here is an example of Gaines Adams against the run.

Logan Mankins, one guy. And he was picked up late by the Patriots...in the first round

And Vrabel was originally a Steeler before he came to the Pats. And their corners, with the exception of Samuel, are really bad. Which is why they were willing to franchise Samuel; they really need him. But yes, they did draft him...
