The Jets and Redskins have reportedly engaged in trade talks regarding Ladell Betts, but a potential deal fell through.
Now there's a great fit for the Jets! Betts would make a great starter with Leon Washington behind him. The talks also show a new willingness by the Redskins to move Betts, which would be huge for Clinton Portis.

I wonder what they were offering. I don't like the idea of loosing him but I can understand that we screwed up here and need draft picks.

The deal fell though

The Jets have tried to acquire Redskins running back Ladell Betts in a trade but a potential deal fell through, according to someone with knowledge of the discussions between the teams. The person requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of trade talks.

I'd say keep Betts. After thinking about it, I would ask for a 1st rounder. He it talent.

If they want to deal Betts, hold onto him for another year and let his stock rise. He hasn't done enough to warrant a higher demand but people see that he's a beast. If we can pad his stats we can get a bit more.

I personally want to see him here.

Jets would never, Mangini is from the Belichek staff that values their draft picks dearly.

Works both ways - he could easily struggle/get injured/have some costly fumbles next season which would make his stock tumble (like what happened to E. James when he fell into that pit known as the Arizona Cardinals). I doubt it's going to get much higher than it is now.

Not that Portis is injury prone, but he is coming off injury and it would help to have some security with someone who knows this "COMPLEX" offense. And we are focusing on keeping our own. So lets keep our word, take our licks for our mistakes, and head into training camp.

Boy, do I disagree with this! Betts did a great job in support of Portis last year. Everyone saw it. Everyone saw that he is potentially a starting RB!

I wouldn't deal Betts for less than a 1st. And I don't really see how much more he needs to pad his stats. He ran crazy for the games he started for the skins last season with a rookie QB under center. The guy is a stud.

I see Portis and Betts each getting 1500 yards next year. Something tells me we are going to run, run, run.

He fumbles like 20 times a game, I'm sorry but thats not an ideal trait for a RB. Plus he has a history of it and being injury prone. I think an injury free year with a lot less fumbles will aid in his value.

I'm not saying he sucks but he's definitely not worth a 1st rounder.

Actually I would think that right now would be the time to get the most for him. Next year, Clinton will be healthy and get the most carries. He just came off an amazing year as a backup. If we do get rid of him, and believe me I don't want to, now would be the time.

I don't know. There are a lot of guys out there right now.

I can't believe people want to trade Betts for anything less than a 1st round pick. Especially after that great deal he signed, why would you want to do that?

He fumbles some, that's true. But haven't you learned anything from what happened with Tiki Barber's fumbling problems? Those types of things can be fixed...

Sorry. Fios put the song in my head...an empty, cavernous place to be.

I only think this makes sense if the Skins believe they can keep Duckett.

I don't think we can. We don't need to. Keeping Duckett would be like bringing a guy in off the street. I see Duckett in Carolina or Cleveland. Possibly even Houston.

But that leaves open the question of the #2. Portis has been most effective when he plays a lot but not all the time. If we don't have quality relief for him I don't see the Jets giving us enough to pry him away.

Our other RBs are valuable role players, but are there any you want to play just in relief of CP?

We have Rock, Nemo, and possibly draft someone. I want to keep Betts. Successful teams have 2 quality back. We need to start mirroring these teams.

Sup Luva, it's been a while man...

I have a disagreement though...

His stock will not get any higher, with the Redskins at least, than it is right now. The chance that Portis goes down again is slim and the chance that he'll replace hiim with 2-months of rushing for 100-yards again is slimmer.

His stock is as high now as it will ever be. If they want to deal him - they should do it now. I'm not too fond of the idea, plus you'd be paying more to not have him.
