Fletcher and Smoot Update

According to what I hear around the league, from good sources, the Skins have contacted Fletcher and Smoot officially, asked both to coem here for visits on Friday and things look good. Believe it or not, as late as it is, it's still early in the evening by free agent standards, so things could always change, but I think both will be at Redskins Park tomorrow (well, actually, later today at this point).

JLC

I hear Fletcher is already in town.

yes but this front office doesn't know what age is. He is talented but he is older and he is going to cost us a lot of money. but I have decided that if he is coming in to meet with us..Danny never lets anyone leave without a contract.

Wow, shut my mouth wide open!!! I didn't know Lemar was that old. I guess since its more of a lateral move for us, I don't mind as much.

Age is just a number LBF hasn't missed a game in his career yet people say he is old, I point out he's 31 and Marshall will be 31 this year. Now everything is better :?:

Numbers can be used however you want them to. Marshall will be 31 this year but LBF will be 32 before Marshall hits 31  Does it change your opinion again?

I just don't like the fact that its going to cost us a lot of money when we could have had pierce for a fraction of the price.

I just want youth at the position and I'm weary of bringing in older players. The fact that its a lateral move in age, his injury history and knowledge of the system eases my mind a bit.

You aren't going to get youth. GW would never let a young guy be his mlb who hasn't seen his system. Fletcher is exactly what we need, he is a great leader, a sure tackler, and a durable player. Lets stop complaining about the cost of this move until it actually happens and we find out the exact numbers.

Same age as Marshall, a little smaller...but physically, beyond reproach. Fletcher has never missed a game due to injury in his career.
You can bet that streak will end here with us.

Fletcher is here and just left the building with a member of the training staff. Almost certain he is getting his physical done and I imagine a deal will be done within the next few hours. Smoot is almost certain to be here as well. I don't see him leaving without a contract.

Per Washington Post

I'll take you guys word. I honestly believe Gibbs when he said they have a new approach. Fletcher is someone I wouldn't mind adding.

THIS JUST IN FROMhttp://www.rotoworld.com

London Fletcher's deal with the Redskins should be done within a few hours.

Dan Snyder always gets his man. We'll have more when the deal comes down.

also from http://www.washingtonpost.com

London Fletcher Is In the House

From what I hear, Dockery is in Atlanta and the Falcons have some interest in Dock, so you could probably connect some dots there. Not sure he is/will visit the Falcons yet, but it would make sense. The Skins still making a push to keep him.

Sellers, who was eligible for UFA come this time next year, got a three-eyar extension, sources said, through the 2010 season. Still working to get mroe details on that contract, as well as Vernon Fox's deal and the new deal for Randy Thomas, which I believe lowers his cap number by a few million this season, and adds on a few years to the deal - the standard stuff.

Will post more as I get it.

Sad to say but I hope not. I'll eat crow if he kicks butt next year but I just think he's going to be expensive. I'd like us to plug a young guy in there or keep Marshall. He played good 2 years ago when we had QB pressure.

Marshall? Is he a OT/OL?

Marshall was and is a OLB but now he has the insight of playing in the middle. Getting a real MLB will be a plus. AP was a converted OLB also, in other words there hasn't been a true MLB in this system since Gibbs returned. Marshall will be able to fill in at all 3 linebacker spots without much dropoff in talent (if he doesn't beat Rocky out @ WLB). Washington, Marshall, McIntosh isn't bad but then we'd be looking at depth the caliber of Holdman. This is a good move for the linebackers as a whole.

Yeah....it'll give Rocky more time to develop which is never a bad thing. I really wanted him to start but this is a win-win situation for the team as a whole it seems, at least at this point.
