What if we lose Dock...

What kind of effect will it have on the offense....?

It's a scary that the unit that showed the most promise may lose a key part. I've never been a Dock fan but he's gotten better. I"m afraid we may be losing a budding above average player. I wonder how it will effect Jason and the running game. Do we have a guy that we're going to promote from within?

I am a big fan of Dock and don't want to lose him. Deep down I really don't think we will, Gibbs loves his lineman and Bugel is having a heart attack thinking about him leaving because he coached him to what he is today. He is a huge, durable guy that can pull and his fellow lineman love him. No matter who we get they won't have all those characteristics. Steinbach is damn good but still the chemisty won't be there immeaditely

I think we should fax all the teams a fax on the success rate of players we wanted to keep and were outbid for by other teams and how we can sign them all back now.

I do hope we sign Dockery, but I fear we're reaching a Smoot situation of a good player we want to keep but just isn't worth what he wants. I see him as a loss (if he is a loss) but just part of the equation, not make or break.

I hope we pay him what he deserves. That unit works well together and we need continuity.

Word is he's asking for 12 mill guaranteed. Sorry folks but for that much, i don't think we should keep him. Thats alot of money to be thrown at somebody who hasn't even hit his potential yet.

But its not too much to throw at someone who will hit their potential. Isn't that what you are paying draft picks for.

I agree and he's a guard too, not a tackle. You don't pay guards what you pay tackles.

Sure, we have Todd Wade. He looked great in relief of Dockery last year. I'm sure that Vinny Cerrato and our front office are all over this one, knowing about potential problems with Dockery's contract, have gotten Wade all locked up by now. Vinny's gonna show us his true worth on this one. He may even show everyone why we really don't need a GM, once and for all.

Wade is hitting the Market tonight, he's looking for a starting tackle job and starting tackle money. If he can't get it I think he'll be back in Washington.

Gotta love former Texas Longhorns....Dock is likely to test the market to see what kind of offers he can get. He's said he wants to be a Redskin and I think he will give us a chance to match any offers. With so many teams having lots of money to spend we might have a problem matching any high offers. Given the skins cap situation, we might have to let him go, although with regrets.

Sure, losing Dock will have a affect on the offense but good teams are able to adjust and move on. Let's hope we don't have to do this. I'd love to see him back, but not at a price that will hamper our efforts to improve in other areas of need.

What is sad is that I think that this is going to happen. I just don't see how we can make it work but year in and year out we overspend for guys and no one understands how we do it. I just hope we fill our needs and are able to keep doc.

I for one think he is average at best. I think we should get Leonard Davis he is much more agressive and can even fill in at Left tackle. Its nice to see the improvement in Docks play but if he is asking for too much then are we going to pay him what he is not worth?

If he demands a big contract then I say we pay a free agent who is proven to come in.

Maybe we are secretly trying to sign Wade and thats why we are passive about signing Dockery?

Wade is good but I don't think we need to be secretive.

Davis will get even more money than Dockery.

12 million signing bonus for the 5th best offensive linemen on your team is just insane. I'm all for getting the guy back, but the money he's looking at is crazy money. Really crazy money.

dock is at best the third guard available in free agency i think the skins are doing what the ravens did to jamal lewis last year he wanted to much they told him to go see what he could get then come talk hopefully he won't find a big money deal and come back.

WHAT!????????????? Leonard Davis is a bust, who is slow as hell and can't pull half as well as Dock. That is actually an insulting post to Dock, I don't think you realize how bad leonard davis is. Anyone who picks him up is hoping to turn him around on potential only

Dock update:

From what I hear, Dockery is in Atlanta and the Falcons have some interest in Dock, so you could probably connect some dots there. Not sure he is/will visit the Falcons yet, but it would make sense. The Skins still making a push to keep him.

This just popped up on http://www.rotoworld.com

Redskins G Derrick Dockery is visiting Atlanta Friday.

There's a good chance Dockery will cash in with a signing bonus over $10 million from Atlanta.

Looks like he's a goner....

I think "average at best" may be a bit harsh, he's been solid, but I do agree with you he's being priced out of what he's worth for a guard if the rumors are true. I think we can replace him cheaper and spend the money better elsewhere.

But this is more about proving to your team that you will pay for your own players. Think about the guys who have restructured for him to stay. This is total BS. Coach just needs to get the deal done. Pay the 12 mil. b/c we are going to pay it somewhere else anyways.

Leonard Davis update:
http://www.rotoworld.com

The Giants have joined the Cowboys and another NFC East team in pursuit of former Cardinals T Leonard Davis.

We're surprised either the Eagles or Redskins are showing interest. The Giants are also "in the mix" for Tully Banta-Cain, but no visit has been scheduled.

Davis plays both tackle and guard, TtiT need G help and so do we (not sure that we are the 3rd NFC East team mentioned for that matter) if we don't re-sign Dock. He wants starting tackle money so maybe the Gints will pick him up, I'm hoping TtiT overspends for him though.

Leonard Davis - Updated

Looks like Leonard Davis could be in the house tonight when the Skins take their free agent entourage to the Wizards game. They want to bring him in; not sure if he is in Dallas first, but the Skins are pushing for him. Sounds like the Dockery thing is not panning out perhaps.

Just got off the phone with someone very close to the situation. Davis in indeed in another city as we speak - Dallas I believe- but I heard there is a "75-80 percent" chance he could be in Washington soon. The Redskins are indeed his next free agent visit destination, if in fact he makes another trip. I hear his agents are talking to 4-5 teams and fielding lots of calls, so it's possible he signs with another team while still on this first visit.

Also, Ladell Betts said he has been told nothing about being dealt, but realizes some rumors persist. Said he speaks to his agents daily and they have never mentioned anything, but I also hear that the jets and Broncos have some serious interest in him.
