Redskins Re-sign Pucillo, Release Fauria

The Redskins have re-signed offensive lineman Mike Pucillo, the team announced on Wednesday.
Also, the Redskins released veteran tight end Christian Fauria.
Pucillo, 6-4 and 311 pounds, was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He was a key reserve for the Redskins in 2006, playing in 11 games.
Pucillo can play several positions along the offensive line. He was listed on the depth chart as the backup center, but he can also play guard. Last season, he occasionally lined up at tight end in short yardage and goal-line situations.
Pucillo signed with the Redskins as a free agent in March 2006. He had previous NFL stints with the Buffalo Bills, who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft, and Cleveland Browns.
For his career, Pucillo has played in 36 games with 18 starts. He played his college ball at Auburn.
Fauria played just one season in Washington. Signed by the Redskins as a free agent in March 2006, he struggled through a foot injury most of last season and ended the year on injured reserve.
Fauria, a 12-year NFL veteran, played in nine games and had two receptions for 17 yards.
What does this mean for our TE core, do we resign Yoder and go after a TE late in the draft?

The team is trying to re-sign Yoder. Something tells me they'll still look for one late in the draft or as an undrafted free agent even if we re-sign Yoder.
As far as Pucillo goes, this is a good re-signing. I just want to see him get thrown to this year..... PLEASE!

Fauria has been a good TE for New England and Seattle and he got injured. I don't think he'd missed a game ever for New England. He was probably never intended to be any kind of long term solution just short term depth.
They'll would certainly look at TE's in the late rounds, it's a good position to fill in late rounds because good TE's can slip.

you know cooley is your cathing tight end so a good blocking tight end should be pretty easy to find.

Jermain Wiggins could be a decent option, though he might be expensive. I guess we already have a catching TE though.

I don't get why this is an issue or being discussed.
ey is great and Yoder proved he can catch when he is thrown the ball and is a reliable blocker. A 2nd te is number 20000 on my list of things I am concerned about

Don't be surprised to see Pucillo start in place of Dockery if the team can't find a replacement in free agency or in the Draft.

Maybe, but my prediction is barring injury in camp he doesn't start. TBD.

I know. I see the team adding someone in the future but I would not be surprised to see this scenario play out.

Well, if we can trade down then we can get a guard in the second or third round.

I think the skins are waiting for the market to die down a little bit. They don't want to pay Dockery type money for a Dockery type player if you know what I mean. I believe the keyword this year is "value". Unless a Marquee O-Lineman comes available and wants to come here, there isn't much difference between Dock and some other guy IMO. He was the 4th or 5th best lineman on the team and he wasn't worth the money to keep.

It would seem to be safe to find a competent guard that way. Even if we didn't, that's a position teams would be willing to trade us. I think we still have a lot of draft picks for next year burning a hole in our pockets.

Heck, we could even find a decent guard among undrafted players. Lots of NFL O-line starters were undrafted; Pro Bowler Jeff Saturday, for example.
