I see such disparity in opinions about this team's chances or lack thereof that it made me wonder whether some opinions are colored by age or experience. So I ask this, when did you start following the Redskins? I define that by saying this has to be when you could actually comprehend what was happening and were watching games on a regular basis. I've been a fan for my whole life, but, for a variety of reasons, I didn't become an active supporter until 1994, so my personal Redskins history is not an overly bright one.

I started watching the Skins in the early eighties, essentially when Gibbs came to town. I was just a little kid though so I didn't really become a real fan until around 1986 or so when they acquired Doug Williams. I was a fan of the Bucaneers when he was playing with them, so the transition seemed natural.

When I was a kid I vaguely remember George Allen & the Over the Hill Gang. I remember that they lost the Superbowl and was disappointed but I don't actually remember much of the game itself. I even had a poster of Larry Brown on my wall. I hated the Cowboys.

Being in Michigan my first allegiance was the Lions but they were a frustrating team to follow. My other #1 teams are still Detroit (Wings, Pistons, Tigers), but in 1981, Gibbs first season, I moved to Maryland and switched to the Skins and never looked back. That I already liked the Skins was just coincidence. I don't follow the Lions at all and haven't for 25 years.

I really think the Skins bashers should spend some time rooting for a team like the Lions who don't want to win because then they would have to pay their players. The thing that grabbed me about the Skins and never let go was the endless pursuit of winning. I never questioned my new allegiance when we played the Lions for the NFC championship and it has wavered not at all over the last frustrating decade. We WANT to win, stopping that is all that would ever lose me.

I remember liking the Redskins for a long time, but I never got to watch the games (for church-related issues), and it all changed with the hiring of the General.

But, also, I do recall watching the SB championship games of years ago.

Now, I can't stop watching.

Been a die-hard fan since 1982. First football related memory is John Riggins and 70-Chip.

My dads side of the family is from the area. They're all Redskin fans. I remember going to RFK twice when I was about 6 to 8 years old. One game was against the Giants but I can't remember the other team and I have no recollection of what happened in either game. I just remember being happy I was there. I was born in 79. 85-87, somewhere in there.

I watched and understood the game after I started to play which was around 2nd grade. I remember watching parts of the Schroeder/Williams season which eventually turned into the second Super Bowl W. Thats also the first Super Bowl party I can remember. I've watched every game since.

Since the SB against Miami - I was in FL, sailing and could not stand the attitude of the fans PLUS I really liked how the Redskins looked

2 years later I lived in Annapolis (Annapolis = racing & sailboats!) and met Walter Rock who played on that '72 team.

Met some people through Clydes that were on the "RFK Stadium Authority" and got some really great seats and parking - I still miss that atmosphere.

1975

1957 - I was enthralled with Don Bossler.

I remember the '72 SB, but I became die hard in 1981....damn a quarter of a century.....i need a drink.

Lived in Woodbridge, VA from 1972-1978 and was elementary school age. Became a die-hard fan during that time and have followed the team ever since. The day we won our first Super Bowl title was one of the best days of my life.

Since 82. Remember all the talk in the Super Bowl about the Hogs VS the Killer Bees.

87 baby.

Was born in 78 and was born into the Redskins family. Through HS I played too many sports to follow any so I guess for 10 years I have really been following the team rather closely (draft, fa, etc)

Ive always loved Football. And pretty much played most of my life. Born in 79. Ive always liked the Redskins. But I really started to watch every game since the Norv Era. I remember the Game when Gus Ferotte head butted the wall I believe it was a thanksgiving game and I think he gave himself a concussion doh! Man those years were tough real dry spell for the Skins. First taste of playoffs during my real following was when Brad Johnson and Stephen Davis lead the team to the playoffs.

1983 Super Bowl. I made a $5 bet with my grandfather. I took the Raiders and he took the Redskins. When the Raiders started to trounce the Redskins in the first half I gloated. I felt guilty. I started cheering for the Redskins in the second half because I wanted it to be a close game. I collected the $5 from my grandfather, but the next year I just kept cheering for the Redskins.

At a tender age, I fell in love with the 1969 Vince Lombardi Washington Redskins. The last year before cancer took another great man away.

That 69 team had a lot of character (great QB, RB and WR too)

But I am hoping that SkinsChic, TC, Welch and others come along in order to not feel so ancient.

Mid 60's. The first game I attended was the last game Jim Brown played in DC.

first game I actually remember as a kid-- 82 NFC championhip game ... Daryl Grant high stepping into the end zone...It was love at first sight....
