Today at 4 p.m. is the NFL’s deadline for teams to designate a franchise player, which secures a 1-year contract at the average pay of the 5 highest paid players at that position. The Ravens will not use this designation on any of their 10 players who can become unrestricted free agents next Friday (3/2). That includes OLB Adalius Thomas, who was originally drafted by the Ravens in the 6th round of the 2000 draft and has developed into a Pro Bowl player.

Ravens general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome, who is at the NFL’s Combine in Indianapolis, said: "We have decided not to ‘franchise’ Adalius Thomas. Our hope is that we can re-sign him. Our plan is to compete at a championship level in 2007 and beyond."

Something tells me that this isn't going to happen. I don't think we have the $ for him not to mention we don't have DD resigned yet. Getting DD resigned has to be our #1 priority.

I read that the Patriots think he would be a perfect fit for their scheme and that they will make a big run a him.

We don't have the cap room for this type of player. We are going to have to go after reserve players who are "finds" looking for opportunities.

This is totally off-topic, but the Seahawks franchised their kicker

Josh Brown is worth $2 Million a year.

Thomas would be a nice addition but may be too pricey with all the thinks we need to do.
