Can we do it?

Have we, as a Nation, grown enough to select the best possible candidate for the Presidency, regardless of gender or ethnicity?

Hey, I would vote for Obama any day, partly because he is black.
And while I would vote for a woman president, I wouldn't vote for Hillary Clinton. She's just a power hungry biiyotch.
Hey TC, you probably should have put this in smack.

The powers that run this nation, IMO, are wealthy white males.
I hate to say it, truly, but I doubt you will ever see a woman or an African American in the White House because of it.

I have no idea what the answer to the question is, but I can tell you that Obama is making waves over here. Whether it's just novelty value, or he has real substance, I look forward to finding out.

The color of his skin should have no part in your choice. Why should he get credit because he
is black? What would a white Obama be lacking that the black one has that has you leaning toward him because he is black?

Why do we have to preference that we would "vote for a woman"... but not Hillary. I can think of one person that doesn't like Hillary because she is female, some don't like her because she is viewed by them as a ugly female but I thing it's the ugly and not the female part that's the issue with this group. Most that wouldn't vote for her would choose not to because of her politics and not her gender.
If we only have gray haired white men running for office would that clear up all of our issue? I doubt it but until we stop looking at gender and color prior to what the PERSON stands for, we'll always have something to complain about when it comes to our elected officials

Sooner or later they'll decide it's time and we'll all line up and what they want us to. It's part of our free thinking

I think with everything, fad's are popular. He comes out with a book, gets tons of media exposure, and more than anything. He isn't that far off what most other politicians say. Hillary is tough as nails but I think that if she were to be the first woman pres. she would need to be. I think that Americans are ready for something different and you will see the young vote come out strong for this vote. Many young people don't vote but for them to be a part of something like "the first black Pres." or "the first woman Pres." , they want to be a part of that.

You mean like they were hungry to be part of the "Vote or Die" campaign?? Unless they move the elctions to online voting, I sincerely doubt young people will head out in droves.
I mean, if it means voting vs. watching the latest and greatest, funniest, entertaining show on TV, I'm willing to bet most youngins would stay home to watch instead of vote.

Unless your young people have several more brain cells than ours, then you should think yourselves lucky that they don't vote. Getting them to vote is not the issue - getting them to engage with the debate and discuss the issues at a higher intellectual level than an episode of Friends is more important.

Dude, I never said I wouldn't vote for her because she is a woman, I said I wouldn't vote for her because she is a power hungry biiyotch.

I believe we need to find a way to circumvent the eight-year limitation for presidents! Like Al Franken says, "In fairness to President Bush, there’s more to being president than being articulate, intelligent, and knowledgeable". Who's with me?

Have -any- of you met either Obama or Hillary? I ask this question seriously.
By this, I mean not the extreme of necessarily shaking hands but at least attended a function, meeting, rally or press conference given by any of them?
Because if you had, in both cases, you would have no doubt whatsoever about their public political competence and presence. I am not expressing a party or even personal preference for either and their views. I am only saying that as public people come, they are rather impressive in person. Both can bring a crowd to their feet. They are articulate, coherent, well-thought out and intelligent (both have rather -impressive- staff behind them).
You should expect these qualities among anybody aspiring to occupy the seat of the office of the Presidency in the most powerful country on earth, but i just wanted to put it on record.
Ah, and if you do want to know whether I have met either or both in -any- of the above circumstances, and at least some of the other prominent Republicans and Democrats running for the nomination of their parties, the answer would be ...
... maybe.
By the way people, you would be surprised about some of the people in Washington that may come once in a long while to this board as guests because they want be informed about the Redskins. I am just saying.
