Are there any amatuer photographers here? I just purchased a Cannon A630 over the weekend. I think this will be my first hobby.

Feel free to share any advice or photos.

I've been "shooting" for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. By far the most rewarding hobby I've had. I use a Canon Rebel XT (digital SLR) with a Sigma 17-70mm F2.8 and a Canon 70-300mm F3.5 IS lens. Since you're just starting out, I would recommend the book Understanding Exposure (revised edition) by Bryan Peterson. It's geared more towards the SLR crowd but I think you would find it very useful as well.

Also, find a photography club in your town and attend a meeting. If you're like me, you'll be hooked immediately. Have fun!

I took a photo class at my local community college. We used black and white film, developed our own pictures, and learned a lot about lighting and all the things that make up a photograph. It was a hell of a lot of fun. One thing they suggested was to take a LOT of pictures. You never know what ordinary-looking things will turn out to be great photos.

Here's a couple of useful sites.

Photography is something I'd LOVE to get into seriously. I just have a wee point and click right now and can only dream of owning something like a D-SLR. However, negotiations are ongoing with She Who Must Be Obeyed on upgrading the camera before we vacation in Scotland this summer. Hopefully, she'll bite and I can get into this a bit deeper...

Here's something I took a while back.

Photography is something that I've been looking at getting into myself.........But I don't understand a word you just said! Would you mind translating that please? Just because I know I'll need to know what that means if I were to be even a decent photographer. :)

Drop Taz a PM Chris... she's been really busy lately, but if your patient about it, I'm sure she'd be glad to go over anything you want to know with you.

I went to a wild Halloween party a few years ago and got 3 girls to pose topless for me with my digital camera. My advice - go to wild parties with your new toy!

Have fun with your new "hobby".

So is that why you decided to be one of the topless girls in the photos last year at your halloween shindig, because it was so fun?

I took the 1st two at a party I was over the weekend. The last wasn't taken by me, but I did do the simple photoshop edit. She's my older cousins G/F Deidra from Antigua.

You won't like getting all that salt and sand in your straw.

Love is painful, or so I'm told
