could chicago trade up?

hey everyone... first post :celebrate:

im not saying its going to happen but i had a thought after watching rex grossman tonite. could the bears try to trade up to acquire a top 10 pick to try to snag a qb? if they were to try what do you guys think that we could get from them? :feedback;

if they have any brains they'll be desperate to get a new QB. maybe grossman will still turn into a great player after years of intensive sports psychology sessions, but i can't imagine it being worth going through the mess that is his game in the meantime.

you come up with a good idea for chicago, they should definitely consider trading up with us if any of the coveted QBs are still left when we pick.

I think that if they are smart, they don't trade up for a young guy but trade outright. There are quite a few guys who could step in and be a good player. I really like the guy, and don't laugh at his name, but Cleo Lemon from Miami. He played a few games this year and did pretty well. Another players name that could surface is Patrick Ramsey. The Bears were in trade talk with us a few years ago but we didn't pull the trigger. He is sitting in 3rd spot now so you never know. I think that with their talent, they need a proven guy. They have all the other pieces. Not to mention they could get a good QB between 10-20 pick.

you know another idea for them would be to draft a qb this year and then try to trade for brett farve. it makes sense for everyone involved. the bears would get a proven qb, albeit an old one that is almost done, but he would be in an offense that can basically run itself. the packers need help everywhere and could stockpile some draft picks. they can also get aaron rodgers in to get some game experience and get him progressing instead of sitting on the bench. there really is no shot in hell of this happening though as the packers would alienate every fan that they have by trading the face of their franchise to a division rival.

getting back to my original thought, i think that chicago would have to offer me at least 3 picks to get me to trade out of the #6 spot. they would have to be higher picks because if we went that low we would be guaranteed of losing out on the superstars that everyone is drooling over now.

I believe it will be dumb for the Redskins to trade down that far, we need a player that can come in and start, because players that we draft pretty high dont play right away.

Brett Favre would never leave Green Bay, especially for the BEARS. That's GB's biggest rival......

I just don't see any reason to think the Redskins will want to trade down.

We give away 2's, 3's and 4's for practically nothing all the time. So why would our front office be looking to move down to get picks in those rounds back?

I say we stay at 6 and hope to get a stud defensive lineman to build around, hopefully Alan Branch.

If it were me I would trade down but it really depends on who, what, and where. If you are telling me that we could trade our #6 and move to #15, get a 3rd round pick this year and a 1st round next year you wouldn't do it. I have to say that we have more problems that need to be fixed that what they guy at #6 can do. But getting a few guys from 1 pick, that'll help.

It's not that we wouldn't do it...the Skins FO wouldn't. That's preparing for the year after next year...and that just isn't the Redskin Way.

It's all about instant gratification!

There are 2 highly coveted. Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn. I am sure one of these Qbs will be available at number six. I really dont think Chicago is shopping for a replacement. Maybe a backup QB. Lovie Smith is a loyal guy and I dont see him negotiating to aquire a high pick for a Qb. The people and fans of Chicago are screaming for a Qb. I know that for sure. If in the case Chicago does want to trade up. I say we trade spots and aquire a second and if possible a third or fourth pick as part of the deal.

There's loyal, then there's stupid. Lovie HAS to be looking for alternatives. Grossman totally cost them the game. The D was awesome against a very, very talented O keeping them in the game for so long. How many 3 and outs can you have and stay in the game with Manning and company? That is before he started giving them the ball directly.

Here are some veteran QBs that will be available for little to no compensation:

Culpepper -- I like him, besides the fumbles. does he have small hands or what?

Harrington -- He's beginning to come around - just wish he'd wipe that smile off his face when he throws 3 picks.

Brad Johnson -- can anyone believe he beat us in the 1st game?

Bledsoe -- kidding

Brunell -- really kidding

Leftwich -- does anyone have slower feet than Bryan, besides Bledsoe?

Garcia -- did he have 7 great games at the right time, or what?

Ramsey -- the Bears wanted him when we got him. He might be a good fit actually...I still like him. We may have made the Super Bowl two years ago with him, versus Brunell stinking up the Seattle game, and others!

Tim Rattay -- who is this guy?

Kyle Boller -- Ravens will never let this guy take their #1 QB job again.

Warner -- He might be a great fit in Chicago.

Ryan Leaf -- just making sure you're awake!

David Carr -- The Texans will be sorry they gave up on this guy..believe that! Draft some Olineman and give him some time..jeez

Damon Huard -- Maybe we sign him if we cut Brunell?

Vinnie Testaverde -- the guy still plays for NE...didn't he play back in the 70's?

Griese -- Is he so bad Lovie wouldn't give him a chance this year?

Plummer -- The Snake is as good as outta Denver.

Peyton's backup - can anyone name him, without looking it up?

Sage Rosenfelds -- he's still around!

Gus Ferrotte -- he's still around!

Aaron Brooks -- is he a QB, really?

Koy Detmer -- he's still around!

Gibran Hamden -- he's still around!

Tim Hasselback -- his wife is attractive!

Drew Henson -- Baseball has been very good to me...

Shaun Hill -- ex-Turtle still in the league -- on SF...

Anthony Wright -- is this the guy who was on the cowboys, went nutty and then signed with the Jets?

Kelly Holcomb -- He's still around!

Jared Lorenzen -- has this guy ever missed a meal? http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/494145

Shane Matthews -- He was on the Fins roster this year... (NO -- his pal Danny Woeful is not in the league anymore.)

enough of that....

i agree that the bears d played well in that game. did anyone hear mike and mike on espn radio? the last couple of days they have been ragging on the bears d. as much as the colts had the ball that game should have been like 45-17. the bears only gave up 22 points. the reason that indy ran all over them was because the bears were so afraid of manning going up top to marvin and reggie wayne that they dropped everyone back off the line of scrimmage. aaaaaaaaaanyways... i dont know if this is true but i have been told that lovie smiths contract is up now. he is from here in texas and the cowboys are looking for a coach. if the bears were to have a new coach and he were not a fan of grossman then they might look at getting a new qb.

You've got a good point, but I agree with Herohamo that Chicago probably won't be drafting a QB, certainly not as a high pick for which they'll be trading up. You're right that Grossman needs competition in camp, but he's not going to get that from a rookie, even a 1st round pick. Chicago is built for a title run now (obviously), and isn't going to want to wait for a rookie QB to mature in 1-3 years (assuming any rookie isn't a complete bust, and we've all seen college QBs flame out at a high rate in the NFL). For that reason, I see them trying to trade for or acquire in free agency an established QB who's been in the league for a few years, and is ready to play NOW. I don't see them spending a first round pick on a QB.

That could well be true. I was just addressing the "loyal" part, not saying they would trade into the top 10. He has to be looking for QBs though. I understand Grossman wasn't that bad all year, but to play like that in the game that mattered most was pathetic.

The other reason Indy ran all over them was they got tired being on the field for 45 minutes because the O couldnt' get a first down.

No question. If Smith doesn't at least attempt to get a veteran QB or some other alternative to Grossman, he's just letting the rest of his team down. Confidence is huge to QBs, and I can understand Smith's desire not to further damage Grossman's confidence, but still, he's more a liability than he is an asset.

A little bit of management skills from the QB position and they could have won it all this year. A move like that wouldn't surprise me in the least -- I think they will opt for Garcia or perhaps an overlooked veteran QB instead of going after a high profile pick.

It was a close enough Super Bowl that you're probably right; it could've gone either way, especially with Garcia at QB. It's all speculation now, however. I do know one thing, though; I'd hate to be Rex Grossman next season. He's certainly going to be on a very short leash with the fans, and probably with his coach as well. Definitely a tough situation.

I think it's even more stark than that for him. I think the Bears absolutely will find another starter, I just don't think they will use their draft pick to address that situation.

The Bears' defense is getting a bit of a pass here - If Grossman had not had any interceptions they still would have lost the game because their defense could not do what the team had said they would do - they had stated for 2 weeks that the defense was going to limit the amount of time Manning had the ball - end of story

Manning only engineered scores when he had to and he could have lit up that defense if Grossman had played well.

In my opinion the Bears defense lost the game NOT the QB

Smith will have Grossman in the mix for the starting job and right now I would be surprised if he is not still the starting QB for them next year.
