Some Hope

There is some hope in this years draft if the redskins play their cards right. I have a feeling a lot of teams will want to trade with us because of adrian peterson. He is a top running back talent and many teams out there need a feature back.
Houston, Green Bay, NY Jets, NY Giants, Minnesota
At #6 we can expect Calvin Johnson to be gone so that takes away all trading partners that need a WR. So if the skins are smart and can get a bidding war going between these teams, we could possibly pick up a late first rounder and a 2nd and 3rd. Me personally I like our old trading partner , the Jets. We could give them the number 6 pick, and possibly get their first and hopefully two second round picks.
This is a deep draft from pick 15 - round 3
My ideal scenario would be pick up Patrick Willis with the number one, then draft which ever DB and DE fall. there are a bunch of DB's and DE's in this draft so a couple good ones will fall to round 2. That way we get three picks to sure up our defense.
There are a few problems with this scenario. One is that we don't have a lot of cap room to trade down and pick up three picks. Two picks would be the most likely option , maybe a third pick for 2008.
Second is that if Michael Turner leaves SD that's one less team to bid with
And third problem that could throw all this out of whack is that Detroit drafts Peterson.
But its not as bad as it seems, the skins can do a lot of good in this draft if we play it right and teams get desperate enough

I'm beginning to think more and more that they might trade down. Depthis horrible at most positions. But they will probly just overpay free agents to fill the holes. Hopefully they don't have the cap space and they actually have to try and draft players.

Sorry, but I'm not completely sold on the whole "trading down" scenario.
Do you realize how many guys we have drafted in the mid to lower rounds in the past few years that aren't even on this team anymore? I mean, why pass on an impact player at #6 to get more mid round picks that we can't sign (cap implications), won't even make the 53-man roster, will just be put on the practice squad, or won't even be here in 2008?

Right. That's because this years class is full of just very average players. Not many standouts. Are there diamonds in the rough? Sure. But it's only after they have played in the NFL for some period of time before you can call them diamonds. They are few and far between.

I'll be satisfied with either Anderson, Adams, Okoye, or Branch.

I'll go along with that.

If the Skins trade down it won't be for picks in the mid to lower rounds, for the #6 pick they can move down a few spots and pick up more day one picks, or trade down a few times, as long as they don't go too far down in the first round and can get a 2nd and 3rd round I'd do it. Again depending who's still on the board.

Ok, I see your point. But I would still like to have impact players that can start almost immediately. We have drafted so many guys for depth who are no longer here anymore. Seems like such a waste. Could we get some guys in the 2nd and 3rd rounds that can win a starting role? Maybe, but it's highly unlikely; i.e. - Rocky. Also, for those guys to make the 53-man roster, other guys would have to be cut. Who then gets cut?
I'd love to hear what's going on in those meetings at Redskins Park right now. I can't imagine all the scenarios they are looking at, much like we are. Hopefully they'll work it out and make some nice moves, whatever they might be. I'm quite sure they will consider almost anything, including trading down.
