With his arm, Oakland will throw it deep every other play. He'll have to learn how to get rid of the ball in a hurry behind an awful offensive line.

2. Lions Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin Senior
The Lion fans will want Brady Quinn, but the brass wants to build from the lines up.

**3. Browns Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame Senior
The Browns need help on the lines, but they can't go another year with Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson under center. They need a player to build the franchise around.

**4. Buccaneers Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech Junior
Merry Christmas. The passing game will suddenly be dangerous with the combination of C.J. and Joey Galloway.

5. Cardinals Alan Branch DT Michigan Junior
While the offensive line needs an upgrade, Branch would be too good to pass up for Ken Whisenhunt's defense.

6. Redskins Gaines Adams DE Clemson Senior
The Skins got no pass rushing production last year. Adams is a perfect fit for a team that still might go after a sack-master in free agency.

7. Vikings Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma Junior
The offense needs as many weapons as possible. While there's a glut of decent players in the Viking backfield, there's no superstar. Peterson is a superstar.

8. Texans Marshawn Lynch RB California Junior
Even though the actual running back in the Houston system is relatively insignificant, the Texans need a back they can rely on. This would come close to quieting everyone down after not taking Reggie Bush.

9. Dolphins Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas Junior
Can you saw Defensive Rookie of the Year on the other side of Jason Taylor? While not a need pick, Anderson's too good to fall any further.

10. Falcons Leon Hall CB Michigan Senior
DeAngelo Hall is one of the NFL's premier corners and Jimmy Williams isn't bad, but the secondary still needs help after giving up way too many yards last year.

11. 49ers Dwayne Jarrett WR USC Junior
The Niners got Alex Smith his safety valve last year in TE Vernon Davis. Now they need to give him another major weapon.

12. Bills Amobi Okoye DT Louisville Senior
While a top flight corner would be nice, defensive tackle is also a need Okoye might be the type of tackle the defense can revolve around.

13. Rams Georgia DE Georgia Junior
St. Louis needs to be more effective against the run and must come up with more of a pass rush. If Okoye falls here, he'd also fill a big hole on the defensive front.

14. Panthers LaRon Landry S LSU Senior
The secondary did a good job last year, but it could use more big-play ability. Landry gives the Panthers some options.

15. Steelers Adam Carriker DE Nebraska Senior
Georgia's Charles Johnson or Quentin Moses, or Nebraska's Adam Carriker, would provide a nice boost to the pass rush that isn't all that bad. Reaching a bit for Florida State linebacker Lawrence Timmons isn't out of the question.

16. Packers Robert Meachem WR Tennessee Junior
If you want No. 4 to come back for another interception-filled year, you need to give him playmakers to work with. Meachem would help create a heck of a corps combining with Donald Driver and Greg Jennings.

17. Jaguars Sidney Rice WR South Carolina Junior
Reggie Williams, Ernest Wilford and Matt Jones all showed promise. Now the Jaguars needs a true number one receiver.

18. Bengals Quentin Moses DE Georgia Senior
The hope is for David Pollack to be 100%, but the Bengals have to make sure they have more pass rushers in the mix to beef up the defensive production.

19. Titans Tony Ugoh OT Arkansas Senior
If you have a transcendent superstar-in-the-making quarterback, you do whatever you can to protect him.

20. *Giants Lawrence Timmons LB Florida State Junior
How much does Michael Strahan have left in the tank? The Giants need more pass rushers in the rotation, but they also need more linebacker help. A running back would also be nice.

21. Broncos Darrelle Revis CB Pittsburgh Junior
The saddest of need picks, the Broncos have to replace Darrent Williams.

22. Cowboys Ted Ginn, Jr. WR Ohio State Junior
No way, no how Dallas is going to deal with Terrell Owens for yet another year. Even if he is back, Tony Romo needs young receivers to throw to.

23. Chiefs Levi Brown OT Penn State Senior
The Chiefs always build from the offensive line out. The 2006 line got by with smoke and mirrors.

24. Jets DeMarcus Tyler DT N.C. State Senior
A top ten-caliber player, Tyler would do wonders to help bolster the run defense.

25. Patriots(from Seahawks) Daymeion Hughes CB Cal Senior
With Asante Samuel all but gone via free agency, the Patriots will have to address the corner needs at some point in the first round.
26. Eagles Jarvis Moss DE Florida Junior
While he's not Jevon Kearse, he'd make for a great understudy when his fellow Gator returns healthy.

27. Ravens LaMarr Woodley LB Michigan Senior
Baltimore loves athletic, versatile tweeners. Woodley can fit at several different positions on the defensive front seven.

28. Chargers Dwayne Bowe WR LSU Senior
San Diego must, must, must give Phil Rivers more players to work with. If Eric Parker and Keenan McCardell are the wide receiver answer, you don't want to hear the question.

29. *Patriots Reggie Nelson S Florida Junior
Nelson's versatility and high character will be appealing. He's not a need player for the Patriots, but they never go according to conventional wisdom.

30. *Saints Patrick Willis LB Ole Miss Senior
The Saint linebackers are fantastically mediocre. Willis would be an upgrade.

31. *Colts Quinn Pitcock DT Ohio State Senior
Don't let the playoffs fool you; the Indy run defense still needs help. Pitcock, at the very least, would be a great run stuffer rotating with Corey Simon.

32. *Bears Marshal Yanda OL Iowa Senior
While a linebacker would be nice if Lance Briggs goes elsewhere to get paid, Yanda might be a more pressing need for an aging offensive front.

I'd rather have Jamaal Anderson than Gaines Adams.

Anderson is bigger and we already have one smallish DE in Andre Carter.

I agree, but if we go DT I'm starting to like Amobi Okoye

Isn't Okoye only 20? Is it possible for somebody that young to be well enough developed physically to play DT in the NFL without some sort of pharmaceutical assistance?

I'm starting to really like Anderson - I'd like an end that can pass rush well, and be a force against the run. Next year, I really think Carter will be a force, but we could do with more size at the other end postion.

He's only 20 but he played 4 years in the trenches and could be around for a decade before his age becomes a issue

Anderson looks to be a can't miss, but we need to plug the middle of the line. Everyone talks about the drop off after AP left, but no one mentions that Marshall was the WLB back in those days.

Sign a MLB or OLB that has played MLB before in free agency, trade down to around 10-14 and pick up a big body DT. This give Rocky more time and put Lemar back at his natural spot.

I'd be extremely disappointed to see us pass on Jamaal Anderson, who is a pure wardaddy creature DE.

We'll lock him in a closet, toss in a live rabbit every couple days, and never let him out except for games and some late-night forays into the bad parts of town for live meat. Beast.

I agree with the massive Left takles these days. We need a guy like Jammal A. If we get Gaines I just hope he is a beast.

Whatever. You should see some of the mock drafts that are out there. I even saw 2 mocks that have us taking JaMarcus Russell.

You ARE kidding, RIGHT? That would be a total joke.

I noticed that Pitcock from OSU is the first defender from there to go in this mock. He has played really well for the Buckeyes, but I can't decide if run stuffing or pass rush is more important to us.

I hate the offseason.....so much speculation.

jamaal anderson over gaines adams and im starting to agree wit the poster who said okoye. they are both younger and can easily add muscle on an nfl training program. i think that we will actually be in pretty good shape if one or both is on the board at 6. if he is still there we can take anderson at 6 and if he is gone, we can field offers from any trade partners and try to move down and pick up okoye. FORGET THAT WE NEED TO DRAFT CALVIN JOHNSON!!!!!!

I think it will be out of our hands to some extent. I think whoever is the combine darling between branch, adams or anderson will be off the board before 6. Then it will be in our hands. Right now I like branch, anderson, adams in that order but I would love to see how adams and anderson run at the combine. Especially Adams, kid can flat out fly.

I just like the fact that there are several guys on the d-line that are worth taking. Any of those guys would be a big help for us.

Yea there is reason to get excited about all three of those guys. We can only hope GW doesn't already plan on waiting to start them Week 10

If we do use the pick and he shows he can handle being a starter in the NFL he will start.

This is a year that GW will want to show that last year was a "mistake".

None of GW's rookies start the season. The question is how long...

I understand your point Chris - I just think that the reason most rookies do not "start" (for a number of coaches) is not just because they are rookies as much as they have not shown those coaches that they are ready to play in the NFL.

With Williams, he also does not place that much importance on "starting" per se - he has indicated that he feels that everyone is a "starter" but only 11 are on the field for the first series.

Some positions are more difficult for a rookie to make the transition from college to the NFL. I just feel that if we get a rookie DT or DE this year AND he shows by his play in camp and the pre season that he is ready for the NFL then there is a very good chance he will be on the field for the first defensive series.


I know that a lot of coaches like players to earn their positions but this year I feel this coach might just get lucky and we might select a defensive lineman that then shows through camp and the pre season that he is ready to play.

yahoo has another mock up today and they have detroit taking anderson at 2 and us taking adams at 6.

I think we'll be going with Jamaal Anderson, which is who many experts think will happen. Adams is also a very solid player, he can play outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme (which we don't have) and he's an excellent pass rusher. I would be happy with either one.

Mmmmmmm .... How many picks do we have in the first round or the whole draft for that matter? It is very difficuilt to get excited with Redskins drafts with inpout from Vinny anymore. Sorry.

the more i read the more i dont really want adams. maybe if he adds about 15 to 20 pounds and learns to stuff the run then i would like to have him.

He could easily do so and not lose a step. The biggest reason i could come up with to possibly take Adams over Anderson is that it is much easier to speed rush than to bull rush in the NFL. Adams has a full array of pass rush moves, great technique, great balance, good arms/hands, and an EXPLOSIVE first step with some closing speed. He isn't really small either, he just isn't great against the run. I think the D-tackle position needs to be addressed reguardless of if we take Anderson or Adams so the team might as well take whoever they think will rush the passer better.
