Mitch Mustain, Parade Weekly's top prep prospect of 2005 was given permission to transfer by coach Houston Nutt after OC Gus Malzahn went to Tulsa to accept the HC job there. Malzahn was Mustain's head football coach at his high school, and left the school with Mustain.

I speculate Mustain will transfer to Tulsa to be the starter there, just to be with Malzahn.

Does anyone else find this a tad ridiculous? I think Mustain needs to show the nation his true mettle by sticking in a different system for the next 3 years to show that he's not labeled a "system guy". I know that's a bit far-fetched for a QB, since they have to be system guys, but there's a difference between being a one-system guy and an adapter to different systems.

I'm not sure it's ridiculous. He's showing his loyalty to the guy who got him there, in my eyes.

Plus, I'm sure he'd enjoy his colelge football experience more if he has good relationships with his coach.

Who cares what others label him? He needs to do what he feels will position him to have success as a college QB. Playing for a different coach won't necessarily guarantee him a spot in the pros (or vice versa), so why not play for a coach he loves?

Coaches do the exact same thing quite frequently save that they typically lie about their intentions beforehand. So the kid wants to transfer schools? So what?

He couldnt cut it in the SEC anyway. They ran the wildcat offense because he wasnt really effective passing the ball. He either needed to get better or he would have been fighting for his job anyway. He can do a lot better at tulsa.
