Lefotu, Bramlet Among 16 Signed to Roster

The Redskins have signed 16 players to the team's off-season roster, the team has announced.

Casey Bramlet
Among returning players are offensive lineman Kili Lefotu, who was a seventh-round draft pick by the Redskins last April, and quarterback Casey Bramlet, who worked with the team last preseason.

Also included in the group are seven who spent time on the Redskins' practice squad last season: defensive tackle Lorenzo Alexander, offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong, defensive end Jamaal Green, wide receivers Steven Harris and Ryan Hoag, defensive tackle Vaka Manupuna and linebacker Anthony Trucks.

Of the newcomers, several have NFL experience, including defensive tackle Jared Clauss (Tennessee Titans), tight end Eric Edwards (Arizona Cardinals), defensive back Jerrell Pippins (San Diego Chargers) and offensive lineman Will Whitticker (Green Bay Packers).

Here's a look at each of the new Redskins:

Lorenzo Alexander, DT
Alexander spent most of the 2006 season on the Redskins' practice squad. He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Carolina Panthers in April 2006. Standing at 6-1, and 301 pounds, Alexander played his college ball at Cal, where he started all 12 games as a senior for the nation's second-best defensive unit. He earned second-team All-PAC 10 honors after collecting 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Calvin Armstrong, OT
Armstrong spent one week in late December with the Redskins' practice squad. He is a 6-7, 325-pound offensive tackle originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was active for three games last season with the Eagles, but did not play. Armstrong played his college ball at Washington State, where he was a four-year starter at left tackle and a three-time All-PAC 10 selection.

Cedric Bonner, WR
Since 2003, Bonner has had preseason and practice squad stints with several NFL teams, including the Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons. He was on the Falcons' roster for one game in 2005. In two seasons at Texas A&M Commerce, he posted 63 career receptions for 871 yards and five touchdowns.

Casey Bramlet, QB
Bramlet spent the 2006 offseason and training camp with the Redskins. A strong-armed passer with good NFL size, Bramlet was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was allocated to NFL Europe in spring 2005 and started 10 games, completing 131-of-212 passes for 1,463 yards, with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. At Wyoming, he started three years and set school records for completions (767), passing yards (9,684) and TD passes (56).

Jared Clauss, DT
Clauss has two years of NFL experience with Tennessee. In the 2004-05 seasons, Clauss played in 19 games with two starts for the Titans, recording 47 tackles and a half-sack. He was originally drafted by the Titans in the seventh round (230th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft. Clauss, 6-4 and 290 pounds, was a two-time Academic All-American at Iowa, recording 133 tackles, 10 sacks and a pair of blocked kicks.

Chip Cox, DB
Cox originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Detroit Lions in April 2005. The 5-9, 190-pound safety played for the Montreal Allouettes of the Canadian Football League last season. At Ohio University, Cox was a track star in addition to excelling on the football field, and he totaled 240 tackles, five sacks, four interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

Eric Edwards, TE
Edwards played in 32 games, with 10 starts, in the 2004-05 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. The 6-5, 257-pounder has caught 17 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in his career. He was released by the Cardinals after preseason last September. The two-year starter at LSU finished his collegiate career with 29 catches for 350 yards and six touchdowns.

Jamaal Green, DE
Green spent the latter part of the 2006 season on the Redskins' practice squad. He is a young defensive end prospect and has played in nine NFL games with Chicago and Philadelphia. A speed rusher at 6-2 and 258 pounds, Green played eight games with Philadelphia in 2004, recording nine tackles and one sack. He entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick (130th overall) of the Eagles in the 2003 NFL Draft. He started three seasons at the University of Miami, playing along-side Redskins stars Clinton Portis, Sean Taylor and Santana Moss, and tallied 145 tackles and 24 sacks.

Steven Harris, WR
Harris spent the 2005-06 seasons on the Redskins' practice squad. Last preseason, he led the Redskins in receiving yards, catching five passes for 124 yards in three games. The 5-11, 180-pounder played his college ball at Arkansas, where as a senior he tied for the Razorback lead with 37 receptions for a team-high 617 yards. He also caught four touchdowns, second-best on the team.

Ryan Hoag, WR
Hoag spent time with the Redskins' practice squad last season. A track star in college and a native of Minneapolis, Hoag is a first-year player out of Gustavus Adolphus. In April 2003, he was the last player selected in the NFL Draft, by the Oakland Raiders, earning him the draft day title of "Mr. Irrelevant." The 6-2, 200-pounder has also had brief stints with the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.


Kili Lefotu
Kili Lefotu, OL
The Redskins selected Lefotu in the seventh round (230th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. Lefotu, who is 6-5 and 325 pounds, put a scare in team officials last training camp when he suffered a seizure and had to be hospitalized for a short time. He returned to the team to finish out camp but he was released by the team after preseason. Lefotu played his college ball at Arizona, where he played in 10 games with eight starts, one at left tackle and seven at right guard.

Vaka Manupuna, DT
Manupuna spent time on the practice squads of the Redskins and New York Jets last season. He originally signed with the Redskins last April as an undrafted rookie free agent. At Colorado, Manupuna earned honorable mention All-Big 12 for his senior season. He logged 52 tackles, with four for losses, seven QB hurries and two pass deflections. He is a native of Hawaii.

Jerrell Pippins, DB
Pippins has established himself on special teams in the 2004-05 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and Chicago Bears. He has totaled three special teams tackles and one fumble recovery. The 6-3, 200-pounder played his college ball at Nebraska, where as a walk-on he logged 98 tackles and two interceptions.

Anthony Trucks, LB
Trucks spent time on the Redskins' practice squad late last season. The 6-1, 230-pounder was originally signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in May 2006 out of Oregon. He was released by the Buccaneers prior to the start of the regular season. Trucks made 20 starts at Oregon with 184 tackles, 18 sacks and one interception.

Will Whitticker, OL
Whitticker has NFL experience, having started 14 games at guard for the Green Bay Packers during the 2004 season. He spent time with the Miami Dolphins last season, but did not see any action. The 6-5, 325-pounder was a seventh-round draft pick for the Packers in 2004. He played his college ball at Michigan State, where he was a three-year starter at right guard.

Chris Wilson, DE
Wilson stated the last two years for the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League, logging 70 tackles and eight sacks overall. He was part of the Lions' CFL Championship team in 2006. The 6-4, 240-pounder played his college ball at Northwood College in Michigan, where he had 59 tackles, nine sacks and one forced fumble as a senior.

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Washington Redskins are currently $2.7 million over the 2007 salary cap, which is set for $109 million.
