The BC Lions have lost one of the cornerstones of the defense that led them to the Grey Cup title. Defensive End Chris Wilson has signed a 3-year deal with the Washington Redskins of the NFL. Wilson has started every game in his 2 years with the Lions recording 70 tackles and 8 sacks.

"I am young enough and at the best stage in my life to go for this opportunity," the 24-year-old told TSN. "I am thankful to the Lions for giving me a chance and I plan on making the most of this one with the Redskins."

Interestingly enough, Wilson was the only starting member of the Lions defensive line not to be named to the CFL Western Division all-star team. Wilson did receive a signing bonus from the Redskins. He would have entered his option year with the Lions in 2007 and should he be released in Washington, the Lions would still retain his CFL rights.

I like this signing. Promising young talent that should come pretty cheap. Thats the way to do it!

He seems a bit small, but if he's fast and can play special teams then I like the signing.

Cheap player who should provide depth. Looking at his size do you think they may and try and convert him to Linebacker.

That's what I was thinking - 6', 240?!? That's a decent-sized linebacker! Almost every lineman he will face will have at least 25 pounds, if not more, over him. Even 'small' speed-rusher Dwight Freeney is 268. Still, at least we probably aren't paying much for him, so maybe he makes the team and adds some help in the pass rush. Can't see him doing much in run support though.

I was wondering who's spot he was going to take but I guess it really depends on where they plan on playing him.

Probably Wynn if he gets cut.

I like this signing, too. He's been proven in another league. Let's see if it translates to this one.

What is so exciting about this guy? He had average stats in a league with less talented players. Sounds like another member of the practice squad to me.

Have him take Holdmans spot at Linebacker!

Unless he has room on his frame to put on weight, I don't see him as an end. Strange signing.

Wilson said the Redskins made no mention of switching him to linebacker and he'll gladly bulk up for his first mini-camp session this spring.

I wouldn't get too excited -- this guy ain't the answer to our defensive issues.
