So things aren't always what they seem

I'm not sure Clinton is helping his cause any with that. But it was enlightening to say the least. The offense looked solid to me once Campbell got situated so all that should be ok. I would like to hear what a defensive player has to say about what is going on with Williams.

Wow Portis really didn't sound very happy and said some disturbing stuff about the team. Gibbs has some serious problems that he needs to address. He said the following:
1. Gibbs does the running game and Saunders does the passing game
2. Their are snitches on the team. Said if you're going to talk to the media then out your name behind it
3. Thinks they should shorten the OTA's. Said it's important for the guys to be able to get away from the game in the offseason.
4. Listed Patten, Taylor, Rock, Moss, Randle El, Thrash as the core Redskins
5. Ryan Clark biggest core Redskin of all-time
6. Said he lobbied for Clark and Pierce to be kept here
7. Says he wanted Lloyd to come here and pushed for it. But he says Lloyd alienated people on the team, including Portis. Says he lost faith in Lloyd.
8. Said some of the coaches on offense don't talk to each other. Only a matter of time before it blows up. Says him and Saunders don't talk to each other. Says everyone isn't on the same page.
9. Doesn't understand why he isn't involved in the passing game.
10. Wants to run the ball downhill, not side to side.
11. Says lots of things need to change

I'm listening...So far Clinton sounds pretty predictable he wants to do his own thing in the offseason and just show up to camp. Sorry CP no dice.

I assume the

ey interview was on Elliott in The Morning on DC101.

Yeah I'm for trading Lloyd assuming their is any interest
Last years FA class is just awful. Andre Carter is the brightspot and how many sacks did he finish with 5? Even that was probably more than Phillip "I used to run over people" Daniels.

And yeah, the

ey interview is from Elliott.
1nik, I was looking for the Portis interview all night, where'd you get it? Good find my man.

I agree to an extent. Gibbs went hard in OTA's/Mini's and basically skipped training camp. I think that was one of the nails in the coffin for this season. I'd assume it'd be better to go easy on OTA's/Mini's and then punish them during training camp.
I think 2006 proved that going easy on players doesn't = no injuries. They either happen or dont.

He's starting to sound like our core Redskins of the past. The ones who left and blasted the team for being run horribly. Like I said before, the players are saying the same things REGARDLESS of who is coaching the team.
SkinzCanes wrote:7. Says he wanted Lloyd to come here and pushed for it. But he says Lloyd alienated people on the team, including Portis. Says he lost faith in Lloyd.
Ill never buy another jersey.
SkinzCanes wrote:10. Wants to run the ball downhill, not side to side.
I think he needs to wait until he gets a full season in before he comments on this. He won't care what direction he runs once his yardage starts racking up.
CP is a ball player, he's frustrated/bored. Let him vent and lets get ready for 2007.

The player discontent is obviously the reason for such a poor season. There are always players who are unhappy with a situation but this is becoming an open subject and these are not marginal players. These are the team leaders.
Is this Gibbs 2nd legacy to the Redskins? A team that fell apart because of mistrust, internal fighing, retaliations and backstabbing.

When you're 5-11 these things happen. But Gibbs needs to and I think will address these problems.

Think Clinton is a little pissed????
This is a player on this organization, not LaConfora or Howard Bryant or Dan Daley or any other media pundit saying all of this. So some of the stuff that has been written has some merit.
This speaks just how disfunctional this team is.
When you let players do what they do, then you will have these problems. Clinton can play and made some good points but he also has to realize that if he is a leader, he has to be tactful how he delivers his message. Of course he is vocal because he is allowed to be vocal and he also knows that he will not just be kicked to the curb because 1) he can play and 2) he costs too much money to just cut. So he does have that security blanket but he has to realize that those guys that don't have that of course will remain anonymous. That's why they come to you Clinton to speak up. Obviously some of those guys don't respect you as a leader enough to come to you but instead go to the press as an "unnamed player...
Here is the burning question: What will the Redskins Brass do in response to Clinton's rant on the Radio?????

by SkinsJock
I do not think there will be an official response - this is not something that Gibbs does. They will all be very busy trying to get things together and closing down this season and preparing for next - these "issues" are just a lot of venting by some players who are disapointed but the coaches will not be responding to that.

What I got from that whole Portis interview is he is just really freaking frustrated.
And it's totally understandable. We're all frustrated, and we're not confronted with the reality of playing for a wreck of a franchise like he is.

Thanks for the link to the Portis interview.
For the most part, I concur with CP on some of the issues. I really admire him for his self-confidence ("I could go down to Mexico to play soccer, and still get it done" --- classic!!

), his "my word is bond" mentality ("I'm from the south...'Mississippi's finest'"

), and his desire to light a fire under everyone's butt. However, I think he shared entirely too much "insight" (as Doc Walker calls it

-- I call it dirty laundry, which, boys and girls, should ALWAYS be washed in house), for players to trust him as a leader again.
I'm not saying he's a lost cause, or that he's no longer a "core Redskin", but he did do his best Lavar impersonation in that interview and inadvertently (perhaps not?

) distanced himself from this team and its coaching staff.
I loved the piece about David Patten and Ryan Clark.
Don't get me wrong. CP is a baller and a beast, but he should consider stepping away from such interviews next year. That way, he'll avoid throwing his teammates under the bandwagon (came dangeroulsy close, IMHO).

Good points. He has to realize that some things he can air and some things he has to keep. I think that there are some guys on this team that don't look to him as a leader, particularly those "un-named sources". Apparently they didn't feel that they could come to Clinton to air that and chose the media instead because maybe they don't trust him or respect him.
Is there a "true leader" on this team that will call the "team meeting" to get things straight?
This whole thing really shows the "me" generation of players. If you have Coaches and administrators that have issues, then that just heightens the "me" in these players to want to do their own thing, to not keep things in house, to not go to the team leaders instead of the press to air their dirty laundry. I think that Clinton knows alot more about what's going on on the defense because I am sure that he and Sean Taylor have some sort of relationship being from the "U"and I am sure that Sean has complained to him about what's going on, on the defense. I bet you could probably get info. about this situation from a number of guys from the "U" because I know these guys talk.

Maybe. But I have a feeling that a lot of players agree with what Portis had to say. Based on the quotes from the articles that have come out recently it seems like some of the coaches feel the same way also. And it's not like he's the only player that has publicly criticized the team. Daniels, Springs, Rock, Sellers, Randle El, Archuletta, and Moss (the ones that I can think of off the top of my head) have all voiced displeasure at some point this season with the way some things are done at Redskins Park.

I don't have a problem with what anyone has said. Hell, we are broken and these guys want to win. Its not like they are arguing. He is just telling it like it is. What did he say that was so bad? He only told the truth. Would Gibbs, being a religious man, want CP to lie? I would think that Gibbs wouldn't want Portis to break one of the famed 10 commandments. If they don't want it said, then they know that they are doing something bad. Just get it fixed. And CP probably was the one to make sure it gets done. He definatly put himself on the line.
Now I said I liked everything he said, I lied. I hated the fact most of the interview he referred to himself in 3rd person. Besides that, I don't have any problem with him airing out this organization. Atleast we have a better insight on why we failed. I feel a bit of relief now knowing that change is immenent.

I could be wrong but maybe the reason that CP spoke out is because these issues aren't being worked out in house. More than anything he sounded frustrated with the lack of changes that have been made.

Man, shut up CP.
I mean, some of the stuff Clinton said I was like, "Yeah, he's right".
But then he said some stuff that was totally out of bounds and I still can't believe he said that.
Dang it, shut up CP before you do something really stupid...
