For some reason no one really sticks out on the free agent board. Some names would be great but they are too expensive. It seems that studs always come here to end their career or take a few years off. Then go elsewhere and shine. And thats 100% our fault.

My pick for round 1 would be Branch (if he comes out). He can play inside or out, and will occupy two OL's on every play. I am tired of the "homerun" FA, so leave Freeney alone. While no doubt a great talent, we would just overpay him for mediocre results. Let's use our cap space wisely (for a change) and add depth and competition at each week point. LB, DL, OL, and CB. Bring in some blue collar guys who won't break the bank, and let's get back to some real Redskin football!

I wouldn't mind us making a call to Jared Allens camp and see what we could get for him. Man that guy is good.

We could also call Michael Myers' agent. That guy will stab you before you cross the goal line!!

Terdell Sands would be a good pick up big guy with a lot of up-side

asante samuel is another CB that would be a decent pickup...unless he already re-signed, he should be on the list as a possibility...10 INT's this year isn't bad

If you want them to play in 07 then we need free agents GW won't put rookies out there unless he's desperate Kedric Golston who did play o.k.

London Fletcher would never pass the baggage check.
Jarred Allen sounds good!
Any rookie on defense will sit for the better part of the season if GW is still around!

Here's Formula 51 for fixing the defense:
Sign the following FAs:
LB - E.J. Henderson UFA - Vikings
CB - Will James UFA - Eagles
DT - Robaire Smith - Titans
**Guys like Clements, Jared Allen, etc. may command too much money; these guys, you may be able to get on the cheap. They had a good year but not a big money good year...
Draft the following:
DE - Whoever the best is available on the board who is stronger on stopping the run and an adequate pass rusher, when pick comes up to be ready to be the other DE opposite Carter in '08
Then, make the following moves on Defense:
Coach, coach, coach, coach!!!!!!
LBs- Move Marcus to Middle and put E.J. Henderson on side and Rocky on the other
DL - Start Golston and Robaire Smith at DTs; Carter at one DE and Daniels at the other until the rookie you drafted is ready.
Secondary - Move Springs to FS and Taylor to SS; insert Will James at one CB and comeback with Rogers as the other; alternative move: bring back Smoot who may end up as a cap casulty for the Vikes and move Rogers to Nickel and Dime packages;

I doin't know who Will James is, but I do know the Eagles pass rush and Brian Dawkins make the Eagles CB look way better than what they are!

All good, but Marcus in the middle??... not so sure. We need to draft a stud at middle, Marcus does not have the low center of gravity needed.

yea... 10 Ints is almost more TURNOVERS than our ENTIRE team had... so yea... a Guy that can catch a football would be cool with me.

I wouldn't move Marcus to the MLB spot either. If he plays well where he is, leave him there.
I'd love to see Adalius Thomas fill the MLB spot. Apparently the guy is 270 and quick. A guy like that with a monster rookie DT alongside Griffin could make people afraid to run up the middle.

How come Paul Posluszny Penn State isn't under the possible additions? He won the butkus award in 05, Bennarik award in 05 & 06.

He won't be available when it's our turn to pick.
So you guys don't think Marcus in the middle is a good move? My idea behind Formula 51 was to not steer us completely down the same road of the past with bringing in FAs that are overpaid. The guys I listed and the moves, IMO, are both economical (these UFAs had a good year but not a "big money" good year) and one that could solve our needs in two areas (Secondary and LB) while we use our draft pick to get a solid DLineman....
Also, Will James is the former Will Allen that played for the Giants in '05. He changed his last name and had a pretty good year in Philly's Secondary...

My guess is we'll go after Adams, Clements, and Fletcher. At least I would. At Dt (our fourth obvious problem) I would alternate Griffin, Daniels, and Golston, with Salvea as first backup. Branch is no Butts. I saw him as a non-factor against USC and his stats are lousy.

Stats don't necessarily tell the whole story. If a guy can occupy two blockers all game, as Branch did, it allows others to make plays

Adalius Thomas is going to be one expensive addition. He's going to command big money on the open market.

I say we trade down to hopefully get two picks in the first round. If not I say we Take Branch. I say we get two DTs with first two picks.

how come every year people on this board always suggest we get a DE in the draft?
To me the dline played ok this year. Carter came on at the end of the year. Griffin was hurt most of the time so next year he should bounce back. Daniels is getting older but does anyone on this board remember Demetrius Evans. You know, the situational pass rusher we used last year but for some reason kept on the bench for most of 06 (not sure why). And I believe golston is ok... but i don't see all the fuss about him. I think we're getting caught up in the fact that we have a seventh round draft pick starting for us (not always a good thing).
If anything we need linebackers and secondary. My first choice going to a cornerback. Springs is getting older and has always had a history of injury problems. Rogers is ok but its doubtfull he'll ever be a number one corner. I wouldn't be against even bringing back smoot.
My idea this off season is to maybe .. hmm.. not do much of anything and let the players gell. Maybe trade down instead of up? Possibly pick up a corner and a middle linebacker? Maybe even a safety. Then just let the skins work things out.
Guys we have talent. The problem isn't the players, its the locker room attitude. Change that and we'll start winning
