What will happen to AA

When asked if Archuleta would return next season, Gibbs responded: "I think right now, yeah." But the coach's other statements about the situation with Archuleta weren't quite as optimistic.

"I hope it winds up being a good thing in the end for however we can work this thing out," he said. "It would be a good finish to a tough start."

Will he be back or not?
Gibbs is sending mixed signals.

I though he was coming back a week ago now I'm leaning the other way.
He's due a option bonus of $5M in March so it won't take long to find out but why didn't Gibbs give a definate answer to the question?

Definately a key off season decision. From what I have read, this is my prediction.

We will not pay the bonus, which guarantees I believe 3 years worth of salary. He will have the choice of playing presumably on special teams or negotitating a release. we will negotiate poorly and overpay him to leave rather than risk his staying and keeping the money but at least he will be gone.

I think he may stay and be used in the LB backfield like we saw on Saturday. Also, the cap ramifications are just too much to consider him not being here. As for the option bonus, they can defer this one.

Sounds to me like they're hoping he will restructure his contract.

We will trade him to the Raiders for their entire 2007 and 2008 drafts. Al Davis forgets to take his pills.

Too bad Mike Ditka's retired. Remember how we got Champ Bailey and the rest of the NO draft board for a pot head?

Can anyone enlightnen me as to what the cap hit would be if we cut him before the bonus?

I wish there was some way we could get this guy to come around and get a chip on his shoulder. We didn't sign him to play every down. Pierson was a much BIGGER loss than everyone thinks.

I agree about PP  - but I am hoping that something will happen to keep this guy here and we will see him play with the ability that got him the type of salary we paid him for - this is a business and hopefully we can in this case re-coup some of that for which we have already paid.

This "situation" is not over yet IMHO - I must admit, it does not look good but I have a feeling that this might be turned around. [-o<

I think they'll try to get Archuleta to re-work his contract and bring him back. They're not going to bring him back with his current structure, and I do think they would be open to bringing him back, so it may all be up to Archuleta whether he want's to return to the team or not.

It's not that simple because of the bonus, which if we don't pay turns into guaranteed salary. It sounds like they are going to have to sit down and work it out somehow.

We need to develop AA. Why abandon him after one season. He is new to a new system. You have to give this a boost in confidence and a second chance.
