That's my boy!
Samuels Earns Fourth Pro Bowl Bid
By Gary Fitzgerald

December 19, 2006
Chris Samuels has been named to the NFC's Pro Bowl squad. He will represent the Redskins as a backup left tackle.
Samuels was the only Redskins player named to the Pro Bowl.
However, the team had four players listed as alternates: safety Sean Taylor is a first alternate and tight end Chris

ey, punt returner Antwaan Randle El and linebacker Marcus Washington are third alternates.
Alternates can only get a spot on the Pro Bowl roster if a starter or reserve backs out or if there is an injury at the position.
For Samuels, it is his fourth trip to the league's annual all-star game. He has previously earned invites in 2001-02 and 2005.
Samuels has started 14 games this season at left tackle and has been instrumental in an offensive line that has helped the Redskins rank fifth in the NFL in rushing. The unit has allowed only 18 sacks and has paved the way for running back Ladell Betts to rush for four straight 100-yard games.

ey, Randle El, Sean Taylor, and Marcus Washington were named alternates.
Wow... I just realized I had to edit the article's title myself. Fitzgerald can't even spell "BID" correctly.

What in the heck did

ey and Randel El do to deserve being named alternates?

ey has dropped almost as many balls as T.O. and Randel El is really a threat at WR? Did he make it as special teams alternate?

I don't see how Roy Williams can consistently be the worst safety in the league and make it. Yea, Randle El is spec. teams alternate.

Why is Free Safety the only position where one guy makes it? Thats just weird.

Good for Samuels, although he got in via the same path as Roy-Roy:
Reputation alone.
But hey, if you got it, flaunt it.

Im kinda shocked Samuels got in.
Id pick Randy to go before Samuels.

I don't know why anybody would be shocked Samuels gets in ever. The redskins are in 4th in total sacks allowed and he is a steamroller in the run game. He is one of the 3 best in the league.

I haven't been able to see quite a few games due to the blackout rules but earlier in the season I've seen Samuels get beat badly in the pass rush. Im not saying he sucks but that Im shocked he's going to the probowl.

Chris, I have to agree, I am shocked he is going. I just hope he isn't embarrassed like last year. Remember what that Titans DE did?

They only gave up 18 sacks all year. Samuels has to deal with the other team's best Defensive End almost every week, since most teams best rusher is coming off the right side. He has been burying people, along witht the rest of the line, in the run game all year. That counts for something too. Every tackle does get beat at some point but he has done a good job along with jansen.

What are you talking about with

ey?

ey hasn't dropped that many, though I concede there were a couple ugly ones. He started slow, but I think to do what he did with MB was all the more impressive. The reality is they rate you highly from the previous year too and he had a great year last year. Actually I think he deserved to go last year more than this year, but alternate sounds reasonable.
Though on Randel El, I have to agree with you that you HAVE to consider special teams for him to get there. He's done well as receiver and is getting more time becuase of it, but pro-bowl? Not this year. He didn't play WR enough.
Samuels deserved to go. He is solid year after year. Marcus deserved to be in the game, not just be an alternate. He's been all over the place all year, one of the few bright spots on our D. Though I'm just saying he's played well, I can't say specifically he deserves to go over specific people who are going ahead of him.
Overall I think they picked well. I agree Thomas should have been an alternate. When you're 5-9 you're only going to get about the attention we got though. Moss is good enough but MB sucking kills our WRs chance at the pro-bowl, unless like Randal El you have returns helping.

No one on a 5-9 team deserves to go.

Yes, but in all honesty we have to understand that this is not about who is really the best at their positions - this is a popularity contest.
Lynch and Williams
I am hoping that no Redskins actually attend this NFL rip-off - I do not want anyone taking a chance on getting hurt for this stupid public relations stupidity. Nobody really watches this BS

Yeah Barry Sanders in 1996 had 307 carries, 1553 yards, 5.1 ypc, and 11 TDs. Led the league in rushing on a 5-11 team.
Definately didn't deserve to go to the Pro Bowl as the NFL's leading rusher that year. Edgar Bennet with his 899 yards and 2 TDs deserved to go because he was on a 13-3 team instead.

Although I agree with what you say, I still don't think Samuels deserves to go.

Enjoy it while it lasts because I do not see Samuels staying with us too long unless he reduces his salary. He is unaffordable at present and several other players can produce at least as well as he can for a lot less money.
I like the guy. I just do not think he is the top guy in the NFC in his position. I wish it was true.

What an absolute travesty that Samuels got the Pro Bowl nod. His worst season by far - there have been single games where he gets beat half a dozen times...
Just another example of how the pro Bowl has become a total farce and nothing more than an internet popularity contest.
... and people asking for Sean Taylor to make it? Seriously? Have you been watching the Redskins play this year? Have you seen how porous our secondary was for the first 12 games? ST's our free safety - he deserves some of that blame. Great player - not a great season in 2006.
If we were going to get a 'token' pro bowler, I would have liked to have seen it be Randy Thomas... at least he had a decent season.

I'm telling you man, Albright got screwed.

Make light all you want. If Chris did his job as well as Albright does his, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
I honestly think that this is one of the WORST Pro Bowl decisions I've ever seen and just because the guy's a Redskin doesn't change that. I bet even Chris was uneasy with the selection.
It'd be nice if someone gave me a bonus and a trip to Hawaii every time I did a poor job.
Oh and RiC... cutting Chris Samuels is nearly impossible. His contract has been reworked and revamped so many times that there is just no economically viable option that involves him leaving the roster. It would cost us almost the same amount of money with or without him... so cutting him would still mean a huge cap number AND we wouldn't have a left tackle.
