What$ Champ Worth?

Great article on Champ BH.
Friday's announcement that a trade could be pursued proves only one thing; the Redskins are interested to find out what Champ Bailey is worth to other teams, before they decide if he is worth the franchise tag and the subsequent cap hit.
I think it might be enlightening for Champ to find out what he's worth on the open market too.

either way I see this it is a win-win situation for us, either Champ realizes he's not worth what he thinks or else maybe he's worth 2 #1's and possibility a player as well, who knows the scenrio that may or may not pan out with Champ and us.

don't get me wrong I like Champ just as much as the next fan, but IMHO if you can get 2 #1's and even a player for him then it's a no brainer, or looking at it from the other angle we resign him for far less then he imagined he was worth on the open market.

I think putting Champ on the open market in the long run could help us as well. There is nothing saying he still isn't going to come back if we decide to franchise him. As you said, if we get an offer we simply can't turn down then obviously we'd have to consider it seriously. I however am in the belief he is the game's top cover corner, and that we will get some big offers.
I hope we can't keep him. He is an intricle piece to our young group of players...

My problem is that with LA's contract and Chump's contract offer (that he turned down - remember it will be higher if he gets what he wants) not only will we have less money to fix the problems this year, but we will have to burn them some time in the future when both of their contracts escalate to the point of "HOLY CRAP" level.
Think about this too - teams won't want to trade for them at the level of pay they WILL have in the future under these escalated contracts - we will HAVE to release them and pay the dead cap money... which will be fairly large. If we keep just one or the other ... in my mind it should be the guy who worked with the team when he didn't have to - LA - we may be able to afford him without cutting many people

I'm absolutely amazed by the remaks made about had bad Champ's game has fallen off, or how bad he gets beat, and in the same breath the the same people say we should get the house for him. Calling his attitude into question is one thing but saying he's not a great CB and demanding the house in return leads me to believe some of you are in denial.

we'll never let champ go for two "what if guys". if you guys don't offer a first rounder, someone else will. kc has already expressed their intrest in bailey. you can bet the house, that snyder will take the BEST offer....whether its the lions or the chefs, or anybody else.

Lionsfans - he was the number 7 pick in the draft and his stock has risen since then, no matter how we grumble about it. If the Lions don't offer better than just one first rounder whether they add a player or another pick then I think you can forget the chances of Chump being in Detroit. It isn't realistic.

you say two picks and a player how about this years third and next years first and l ellis fo champ and yall can then call it a fair trade either way you look at it he will be in detroit next season and we wont give you guys a first and second pick this year so get over it and dont deny

"snyder will take the BEST offer"
the thing is, Champ has to agree with it. And if he doesn't want to play anyplace but Detroit, like we're hearing here, then snyder has no choice but to take what he can get from the Lions.
Now if snyder and his capologist is somehow able to get enough cap space to throw the franchise on Champ and keep that, fine. We'll just wait for Champ in 2005... when slapping the franchise on him then will cost over 8 million... I don't think snyder would be that dumb to use it on a disgruntled player and therefore he'd walk for free... and NO COMPENSATION for Champ next year. Too bad.
Better take what you can get now, especially when you need the cap space now to take advantage of this wealth of cornerback free agents this offseason, or you stand to lose Champ for NOTHING!!!

Champ being a cap causality is one thing but for people on the board to say Champ isn't worth crap is just asinine. The guy is great and is only going to get better. We will be watching him in Hawaii for many years to come (unfortunately in something other than burgundy & gold). I can understand that we cant keep everyone in the modern day SHOW ME THE MONEY NFL. But I just don't understand how anyone can question his talent. He may not of had a great year but as I recall the system was flawed. I remember people getting up in arms when I questioned Matt Bowen's ability. For him it was the scheme but for Champ he is overrated. Come on now. Be careful what you wish for...you may just get it.

They do and the same people want 2 draft picks and a player...how can you ask for so much for a player with questionable talent?????

Which "They" ? Snyder, Cerrato and Joe Gibbs ? You're out of your mind, son. They don't question his talent. The problem is, they can't pay him what he wants to be paid without ruining the team. By the same token, Millen also has issues with the cost that'd be associated with bringing the man to Detroit. Read about it here.

Sorry TC that last post was me...The They I'm referring to are some right here. Since the news broke that Champ may seek a trade I've seen some posts questioning Champ ablity and in the same breath talk about getting two picks and a player. To question his heart or attitude is one thing, but if you're a fan of the Skins and can't see this guys worth on the field then as I said before you must be in denial. We all know what we're losing (well most of us) and I don't think is should surprise anybody that he may leave. Champ is a top five CB. He desevered to be paid as such and the Redskins have the option of giving him (which I believe they did) the money. If they choose not to they deserve to be compensated for a top 5 CB. What does that mean...I believe we start at 6.8 mil worth of player(s) to include draft picks.

If you read my posts closely Jek, I believe we should either get a first and third this year or a first and second next. Whether the Lions throw in another player is irrelevant - and I have been the first to poo poo the idea that the Lions would give up 2 picks and a player.
I think Chump is worth it if he is playing somewhere he wants to. He doesn't want to be here it seems, and it showed on the field - but when he was all excited he had 2 great years. Let him go play on the same team as Boss and I think you will see the old Chump playing.
Just as a little side note - someone ought to b*tch slap his mom for the names - Champ and Boss? Sheesh.
