WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goaltender Olie Kolzig and left wing Alex Ovechkin will represent the Washington Capitals on the NHL’s All-Star ballot, with voting running from Nov. 15 through Jan. 2. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star starters for the 2007 NHL All-Star Game, which will be played Jan. 24 in Dallas.

For the first time ever, the COLD-fX/NHL All-Star fan balloting process, presented by 2K Sports, will be entirely digital, with voting taking place at NHL.com. Capitals fans will be able to access the ballot via WashingtonCaps.com.

Kolzig, 36, has appeared in two NHL All-Star Games (1998 and 2000). The longest-tenured Washington Capital, now in his 18th professional season, Kolzig has posted a 4-3-2 record, a .904 save percentage and a 3.45 goals-against average in 10 starts this season. He is one of eight goaltenders on the Eastern Conference All-Star ballot.

Ovechkin, 21, makes his first appearance on the NHL All-Star ballot. The 2005-06 Calder Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL rookie of the year, Ovechkin leads the Capitals in scoring with 10 goals and eight assists (18 points) through 15 games, one point ahead of his pace last season. The Moscow, Russia, native is tied for sixth in the NHL in goals and third in the league in shots (83).

The 100 players appearing on the ballot were selected by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department. The 2006-07 season marks the 19th year in which fans will vote to determine the starting lineups for the NHL All-Star Game. Fans can vote for six Eastern Conference All-Stars and six Western Conference All-Stars: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender on each team. A space is provided for write-in votes for candidates not listed on the ballot.

The ballot isn't up yet, but I'll be sure to post a link when it is. You can support the Washington Capitals and THN by voting for these two, and they are both deserving of the nod.

44 saves for Olie the other night; he's been awesome this year. Ovechkin should be an automatic.

Here's the link. Vote away people. I believe you can vote once a day. I personally wrote in Zubrus. The Caps have been waiting for years for him to have a break out season in which he lived up to his potential. Perhaps this is the year.

I voted for both Olie and Ovie... I'm sure if it were Redskins on the ballot, you guys would be voting like crazy whether the Skins deserved it or not. :-) Support the Caps and vote for two guys that actually deserve to make the all-star squad. I don't think there's any danger of Ovie not making it, but people don't always know just how good Kolzig is, and more importantly, how valuable he is to his team.

My 2 cents

I wrote in Semin too.

The Caps have been playing quite well, though the Hurricanes really seem to have their number beating them by an aggregate 9-1 in the last two games (2 of the Caps last 4 games). Then again, they are the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Vote and vote often folks.

Mi picks:

Eastern Conference
Crossby, Ovechkin, Lecavalier, Souray, Bowmeester, Kolzig

Western Conference
Iginla, Kariya, Sakic, Lidstrom, Niedermayer, Khabibulin

I picked these guys not according to their current season stats but according to the way I like their play.

I wish I could win the trip to the All Star game!
