Bob Ehrlich turned the state around fiscally despite not being able to gain the extra revenue he wanted fro slot machines, he auctioned a lot of expensive toys the previous governor had purchased and used the money to help the state, he gave the education system the largest increase in funding in the history of Maryland, and yet it looks as though Martin O'Malley will be the next Governor. He won on the same empty campaign promises he made and failed to deliver on in Baltimore and the fact that George Bush knew his name.

This is what is wrong with our political system in today's America. Good luck, MD. You're going to need it.

I'm not here to rub anyone's face in it, but Maryland made their choice.

It's pretty rare for an incumbant to be beaten so handily, and from everything I've ever read about O'Malley, he sounds like an excellent candidate.

No hard feelings for supporters of Bob Ehrlich but I've never thought of slot machines as a good means of trying to raise state money.

(1) It shouldn't be considered strange for a Republican governor in MD to be beaten handily in his re-election. I believe that the last Rep. governor in MD before Ehrlich was Spiro Agnew (in the 60's). I think the only reason a republican was elected in the first place was the perceived weakness of the democratic candidate that year.

(2) I didn't vote yesterday, so you won't hear me complain, but I have to say that O'Malley seemed like a sleaze, given his track record and campaign. Here's hoping that he doesn't make good on most of his promises. . .

Yeah after voting this time I have pretty much come to the conclusion that it is worthless to vote in the state of Maryland. Here go the taxes....sweeeeeet! Dude can't run a little city and now he is going to run a state...

Obviously, you've never visited Baltimore. It's the most poorly run city that I've ever been to. I've been to a lot of cities. There are things that are easily fixable, yet O'Malley chose not to do it. I am not really an Ehrlich supporter but I am a little disappointed in my home state for not recognizing the threat that this candidate (O'Malley) carried.

I can understand your concerns. Baltimore was a poorly run city before O'malley though...

We'll just have to see how he does as Governor.

Anyway, I'm more concerned with George Allen as far as that area of the US goes. I hate him so much, I can't wait for him to lose.

maryland is in for a long 4 years. This new gov. did not clean up Balt. like he said he did. All he does is lie. just another 4 years down the drain

O'Malley won P.G. County and Baltimore City. Sadly they have the most people voting. Ehrlich won the rest of the state. I think it will be 4 really crappy years for MD.

It's a shame when people ignore the people running alltogether and vote based on party. It seems like thats what happened on tuesday; people just not really following the races and then voting for whatever party they always vote for. How else do you explain such a smuck getting elected? That is why, although I'm registered republican (and i keep meaning to change that), I am really independent. For example, I voted for Ehrlich, but I am a big Jim Webb supporter too.

I thought Ehrlich had done an excellent job, and I've always thought O'Malley was worthless, oh well.

Ehrlich was endorsed by the Washington Post! I think that fact speaks for it's self. I really thought that would have swayed more democrats than it apparantly did.

I think it is hilarious that O'Malley won Baltimore City....Are you friggin kidding me people? ^^^well said, I think a lot of people have no clue about O'Malley and voted because he is a Dem.

I thought the same thing. Sure, he told us what we wanted to hear to get elected and then failed to deliver on any of that, and all Ehrlich did was help get our state out of major debt, increase funding to schools and work to make our state a better place to live, but our Governor is Republican, and we can't trust him to change the course in Iraq, so let's vote for the guy who lied to us.

I was listening to KISS 93.9 the other day, and a guy called in and said, "I am a die-hard, stead-fast Democrat, and I have never in my life voted for a Republican, but I look at this election, and I ask myself first, is the State of Maryland better off than it was four years ago, and then I ask myself, is the city of Baltimore better off then it was four years ago. Everyone should ask themselves this question, and vote based upon the answer, rather than what party they support. I'll be voting for a Republican for the first time ever."

Oh well. I'm glad I live in Virginia now, where, by the way, I voted for a democratic governor, even though I do subscribe to more republican values than democratic values, because the issues that were important to me more closely matched the platform of Tim Kaine, rather than Jerry Kilgore. Too bad the majority of Marylanders could not look past that fact.
