This might still be do-able

Looking at the schedule and standings this could still be possible:
Chicago 7 0 0 1.000 221 69 Won 7 3-0 6-0
New Orleans 5 2 0 .714 167 145 Lost 1 2-1 4-1
NY Giants 5 2 0 .714 180 134 Won 4 3-0 5-1
Atlanta 5 2 0 .714 153 134 Won 2 2-1 3-2
Dallas 4 3 0 .571 204 142 Won 1 1-2 2-2
Minnesota 4 3 0 .571 127 126 Lost 1 1-1 4-1
Seattle 4 3 0 .571 149 177 Lost 2 2-0 4-2
St. Louis 4 3 0 .571 163 166 Lost 2 1-2 3-2
Philadelphia 4 4 0 .500 206 160 Lost 3 1-1 3-3
Carolina 4 4 0 .500 137 163 Lost 2 2-1 2-3
Green Bay 3 4 0 .429 152 176 Won 2 1-1 2-4
Tampa Bay 2 5 0 .286 88 142 Lost 1 0-3 1-4
Washington 2 5 0 .286 140 171 Lost 3 0-2 0-3
San Francisco 2 5 0 .286 134 235 Lost 2 1-1 1-3
Detroit 1 6 0 .143 132 189 Lost 1 0-3 0-5
Arizona 1 7 0 .125 134 196 Lost 7 1-2 1-5
We still play alomost everybody ahead of us.
Dallas (Home)
Philly ( Home and Away)
Tampa(Away)
New Orleans (Away)
St. Louis (away)
Carolina ( Home)
Atlanta (home)
Unfortunatly, there is really no room for error, the loss to Dallas, Minnesota and NYG could hurt in the tie breakers. It looks like 2.5 games out of the wild card with 9 remaining.

One thing you do have to admit about the NFC is that outside of the Bears, nobody is really running away with this thing. Its a tall hill to climb, but these teams ahead of us will be beating each other up along the way too.
Man I just hope we come out of the BYE looking like a team worth watching for the rest of the season. I'm so sick of the Redskins being totally out of contention by late November.

It depends on how the Redskins play after the bye week. If they come out looking like the 1st half of the year, they could be 5 - 11 or worse at the end of the year. If they come out like the last 5 games of last year, maybe but a long, long, long shot.

Well then, this year should be a refreshing change for you - looks like they're heading for 'totally out of contention' much sooner this year.

SURE this is doo able, they were 5-6 last year, it just depends on if the have the fire or not!! If they play Joe Gibbs football and run the football, control the line of scrimage, make smart decisions then they can win, however if we see that Al saunders crap ball he likes to run then we have no chance!! Portis needs to have 9 100 yd games for us to go the playoffs and i think he can!!! Watch the first drive, if the skins come with alot of runs then you know gibbs is calling plays, but if we see that draw, dink and dunk screen pass then saunders is calling plays and we are doomed, the defense has to play like it did last year. Realistically we can go 10-6 or 9-7 and i think that could get us in!

Exactly. While they still suck, what's the point in the math? Let them concentrate on playing better, then if and when that happens we can start thinking about the odds.

Which do you think will come first, the 5 wins or the 6 losses. If this team gets to 6 losses first, then we are done. That would mean wins agianst Dallas, (in) Philly, and (in) Tampa. If we run those three this teem will be back at 500, then they can look at who is in front of them! Right now the skins have the same record as the Browns, Raiders, Texans, and Titans. But the Titans, Raiders and Browns have won their two game more recently than the Skins, so you could argue they are in better shape! Pretty sad!

Realistically? Have you watched any of the games this season? Portis is an elite back without question, but he is beat up with a bad shoulder and ankle and I think 9 consecutive 100+ yd games is unrealistic for him.
Even by some miracle we do make the playoffs do you think that the geriatric Brunell could do anything against a playoff defense? Not a chance.

Very true!! However they have to beat dallas and take it one week at a time like you said, if they do that then it's possible. i am just trying to remain positive!! If we keep losing i do believe it's time to start cambell!

Brunnell is not the answer!! Tricky situation that Gibbs finds himself in! Mark cannot beat a good defense. The skins should ride mark until we are eliminated then give it to cambell, but if we are winning inspite of mark then cambell should play!!

I agree, even if we squeeked into the playoffs would that do anything for us with Brunell at QB and playing on the road the whole way with stops in Chicago, NY, Atl. I would like to see the coaches focus on getting JC in there, have the team learn the offense and come back strong next year.

Oh, and I would support the team if they went the JC route and worked towards next year.

Lets just look at the next three games for teams in the NFC East. If the following were to happen we would be one game out of 1st place in the NFC East. Who knows... maybe eli will fall apart in the second half of the season like he did last year? It's going to take the perfect storm for us to make the playoffs... If we don't beat dallas we've got to put JC in and treat the rest of the year like it's preseason for 2007.
Redskins 5-5
Dallas Win
Philly Win
Tampa Win
Giants 6-4
Houston Win
Chicago Loss
Jags Loss
Dallas 5-5
Skins Loss
Colts Loss
Cards Win
Philly 5-5
bye
Skins Loss
Titans Win

you left out the Giants game at home - last game of the season...
9 games left, all against the NFC, 4 in the division, and not a single team with a worse record than us... sounds impossible, yet there's not one team left that we can't beat... toughest one is the first one, we have to find a way to get it done at home this week... they need to play like the whole season rides on this game... if they come out flat the first series, the coaches need to get in their a$$ and let them know it's not acceptable... they can't wait 4 or 5 series to get in the game...

Good point... the skins would be lucky to make the playoffs and even if we did, we're not a superbowl team. The Bears are the team to beat and their defense would destroy us.
