Which QB Gives The Skins The Best Chance To Win

Joe Gibbs has repeatedly said that Mark Brunell gives the Skins the best chance to win.

Many folks, including myself, want the "kid" (Jason Campbell) starting at QB now.

Personally, I recognize that Campbell may not give the Skins the best chance to win; however, I just want him to start earning his stripes.

So, I pose this question to all of you.

I'm not asking you who you "want" in at QB.

I am asking you "Which QB gives the Redskins the best chance to win"?

Theres no way Brunell can give us the best chance to win. Just take a look at the results now. If we are sitting at 2 and 5 then how the heck does he give us the best chance to win. He just dosent make it happen plain and simple. Its not too late for us to pull the trigger. Might as well get the kid some experience. Heck Id rather see Todd Collins in there. Heck Id rather see Ryan Leaf in there. I mean it with all my heart and Soul Brunell is the main reason we are losing. He is a good guy and all but he is just not a tiger and dosent have that killer instinct. I dont hate him personally but if he keeps dragging my team down that will change.

Even if Brunell right now plays better than Campbell will in his first games... let him get those games out of the way NOW. Inconsistent, barely serviceable quarterbacking until Joe's guy runs out of gas and collapses versus getting the team's future rolling. Pretty clear to me.

I picked Campbell. Looking at how Brunell has done so far, I don't think Campbell could do any worse, possibly better. I liked the Randle El choice, but I'd like to have him as an option for Cambell to throw to. I would like to think Campbell knows how to make reads and go through his progressions. If he doesn't, then it's better to know now, rather than later.

Campbell brings us the best chance to win. Maybe not THIS year, maybe not immediately but this guy needs to get his early games NOW. I'm sure the Redskins as a team will not look good with him, but I'm willing to suffer with a young Campbell rather than a retire-able Brunell.

PLAY CAMPBELL NOW JOE, UNFORTUNATELY FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR RESPECT IN DC.

i don't know if it's campbell or collins or even ARE, but if it is actually mark brunell, then our problems are about 30 million times worse than we all have feared.

I've been saying Campbell since training camp. I caught a ton of grief for it at the time, but look at the polling now. Playing Brunell is just playing to lose.

Jason Campbell is my pick not cause he is known to be better but because he is unknown. Brunell isnt winning and their can be many factors in that but Brunell is looking at probably the last year he will play (hopefully). So why not give the Kid a shot. If he cant play than we know going into the off season and we get another quarterback going forward. If he can well that is the best possible outcome.

The Brunell experiment has clearly failed. The only way we got into the playoffs last year was because of our defense. It's now time to play JC. How bad can it be? I can stomach hios mistakes because he's a newbie, and that is expected. He could be our future, so why wait.

I would Say Starting Campbell gives us the best chance to win in the Future - I will take the losses now just to see if this guy has what it takes. He has to get some game experience.

And it's NOT like we won't be taking losses anyway with Brunell. He certainly excelled against Dallas in Week 2!

As Gibbs cannot be here to vote I voted for Campbell for him - I think he picked him because he believes he will be a very good QB for the Redskins.

Um, Gibbs is voting for Brunell, Mr. Supersmart.

Not today! He just voted for Campbell!

Gibbs loves Campbell and he will be our starting QB this year.

I picked Cambell.......just because all I saw during that last home game was other wide recievers being open and Brunnell would throw it to Moss who was always double covered. I just don't see Campbell doing that as many times as Mark has done! Maybe I'm wrong.....But Brunnell hasn't done crap for us lately. Plus, Cambell can throw the ball downfield........I'm sick and tired of seeing a 5 yard pass on a 3rd and 7!

Based on the narrow question, I vote for Todd Collins for this. Jason is in all likelyhood going to struggle. If Brunell is the best chance to win and so far that leaves us 2-5, then who cares? Collins knows the system and Saunders is calling the plays and knows Collins.

But I want JC to start. I'm not arguing for Collins to start, just that he's the answer to the question, in my view.

Start Campbell now. To protect his blindside, max protect with Portis on that side to help Samuels. You could also use Portis to show max protect on Samuels side but have him "chip" and then flare out for a screen pass.

This kid has an arm and legs. Protect him on the backside instruct him to throw it away or run out of bounds if he doesn't have anybody to throw to. I knew that defenses are more and more sophisticated these days but the guy you are paying $2 million dollars to has to have something in his so-called "700 page" playbook that can be effective and at the same time protect this kid...

I voted Brunell but as KazooSkinsFan noted, the answer might actually be Collins. I think JC would provide a spark especially since he'd be more mobile but I think he might also be a lot like Romo was for Dallas. Providing somewhat of a spark but making too many mistakes to overcome. I think that is why Gibbs is sticking with Brunell but at some point, you're going to have to put up with that sort of thing if you're ever going to play the young QB in waiting.

I do not believe that Jason would get us the wins now but it would help to start him now so the game start to slow down for him over the rest of the season. If he starts next year out the gates with no actual game participation from the year before it will just hurt the team.

I do not know. I REALLY do not know.

It is a speculative question because it involves two other unplayed QBs that might or might not play better than Brunell.

If the question is instead: Is it time to replace Brunell, I would say defintely yes. It is time to try something different.

BUT it can still go wrong, very wrong, with Todd and Jason. The problems of this team are deeper than a switch at the QB position but this would be a start.

If Joe Gibbs says that Brunell is the teams best chance to win, what does that say about Collins and Campbell? Are they both below Brunell in ability? If so, the Redskins have a major problem for the future of the team.

I don't think so. I think Brunell has the advantage based on experience. Gibbs has basically said JC is the better athlete, can make all the throws, etc. while Brunell has age working against him.

Like RiC, I really don't know. It could be any one of them (with the exception of Randle El, I assume).

One thing that might happen if Campbell was given the start, would be a change in the mindset of the whole team (or at least the offence), and that might be just what's needed. I certainly am not a Brunell hater, but I do wonder whether the rest of the offence expects more from a veteran QB than they have been getting. They're not laying it on the line, because they somehow think that a veteran QB is going to make those special plays to win the game. Perhaps they just think that they need to play safe instead of laying it on the line, which is certainly a feeling that they might get from the way that Brunell seems to be playing the position - safety first.

Now, insert Campbell into the lineup. The first thing that happens is that the safety net is removed, and the whole offence might just be galvanised into action. Now they have a rookie (more or less) playing QB, and everybody else might start to think that it's time to take a leading role. Suddenly, people start making plays, and the team rallies round the new boy.

This could all be complete bunk, but we've seen a Redskins team rally around a yound inexperienced QB before - Jay Schroeder. Admittedly, the circumstances of his arrival in the starting lineup were very different to what might happen this season - there was the emotional factor of Theismann's injury. But it could just work.

If Joe Gibbs thinks that Brunell gives us the best chance, then I'll take his judgement over mine, any day. But if we're going to go to Campbell this season, then surely the bye week is the time to do it? Dallas would be a hell of a starting point for him, but the team needs a spark, and it might be time to make the move.
My 2 cents

I'm all for the QB change and I agree this could be the lift they need. I also am hoping that Gibbs will do it this week. I think the only thing to now has been lack of experience and the fact the line has been playing so badly to now!

As a few here have noted, even if he gets creamed by Dallas its going to be all good, no? Then we can start looking for anyone else but Brunell  The college prospects will become a hot topic before their season even ends! And the thought that Gibbs might pick up a veteran instead of drafting a "cannot miss" college kid will be fantastic fodder for the THN members.
