Capitals Home Opener

... is tonight against the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.
There is a 'Fan Fest' on F street before the game for any of you that might be going to the hockey game.

On October the 14th they will also have a special tribute to Alexander Ovechkin prior to the game. I believe they will actually be giving him an award prior to the game. It's an outstanding experience if any of you have not seen hockey in person don't discount this game until you actually go. It's a blast and a completely fan friendly experience.

Semin, Ovechkin combine for five goals as Capitals roll
WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals are proving that
two Alexanders are better than one.
Alexander Semin recorded a hat trick and Alexander Ovechkin
scored a pair of third-period goals as the Capitals notched
their first win of the season, a 5-2 triumph over the Carolina
Hurricanes.
After scoring 10 goals in 52 games with the Capitals in 2003-04,
Semin spent the last two seasons playing in his native Russia.
But the 22-year-old returned to register one of Washington's
tallies in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers and
really put on a show Saturday.
The 13th overall pick in 2002, Semin opened the scoring at 12:38
of the first period. He later forged a 2-2 tie midway through
the middle session, when he beat goaltender Cam Ward with a
wicked wrist shot from the right faceoff circle.
"(The hat trick) is a great feeling," Semin said. "It was also
exciting to get the win. We played real well tonight. We
battled and we came back. We played as a team. It feels real
good to win."
With the game still deadlocked with 11:57 remaining in the
third, Ovechkin scored on a blistering wrister from just above
the right circle that appeared to catch Ward off-guard.
"I need to be sharper, you can't take off five minutes," said
Ward, the 2006 Conn Smythe Trophy winner. "You have to play all
60 minutes or else it's gonna cost us like it did today."
The reigning Calder Trophy recipient, Ovechkin also tallied on a
nifty deflection with 6:57 left to make it 4-2 before Semin
completed his first career hat trick with 2:47 to play.
"It's great to win at home, we play for our fans," said
Ovechkin, who scored 52 goals last season. "We played hard
tonight. We played a great game. Our offense was sharp and
(goaltender Olaf Kolzig) was fantastic. It's very exciting to
get the win."
Kolzig made 25 saves for Washington, while Ward turned aside 30
shots for Carolina.
"It was huge to get a win tonight, this is how we want to play,"
Capitals captain Chris Clark said. "We want to show our fans
what we can do so our fans will come back and support us."
Andrew Ladd and defenseman Niclas Wallin scored second-period
goals for the defending champion Hurricanes, who are winless
through their first three games.
"We're having bad penalties and selfish acts, that's what's
costing us games," Carolina coach Peter Laviolette said. "It
needs to be fixed, and it will be. We need to work harder, play
with discipline and value the points and the game. We have to
continue to play harder."

It was an awesome game. We watched on t.v.. If I hadn't been sick we would have definitely have gone to the festivities. The only thing that was a little scary was the hit on the Ovechkin. It was a dirty hit and he was down for way too long. He ended up being ok, thank goodness.

Does Comcast Sports Net have volume where you live?
There hasn't been volume on that channel here for days.

Yeah we haven't had an issue. Try reseting your cable box Jake. We've previously had that problem and reseting always seems to work.

It's the thingy you point the remote at.
Unplugging it for about 15 sec should do it.

My friends house about 10 minutes away is having the same problem so I think it's the area thats having problem with the channel. It's not just my house.

I'm all NFL baby!
Seriously, I'll root for the Flyers....but I don't follow hockey nearly as close as the Redskins. I really couldn't care less. Then again, I don't live in Canada either.

Hockey is not about living in Canada. Have you ever even attended a game? I am assuming you've not. You are really closing the door to an exciting game. If you go through your entire life being so closed minded then I feel truly sorry for you.

Actually, I've attended 2 live games thank you very much, one a playoff game in Philly. Stop worrying about whether I am closed minded or not for Christ sake. I just don't like hockey.
Do I live in the world of NikiH where I cannot express my opinion about not liking hockey....or do I have to succumb to the life that you think I should live.
Please get over yourself.

Yeah I don't like hockey was not sufficient, you had to equate it to vomitting, that's the same as saying it just isn't for you. Oh and if you don't like hockey, then maybe you shouldn't post in a thread about it

Yes, in Canada any male who doesn't like hockey, is actually castrated at birth.
Just out of curiosity, don't you have to watch a team to 'root' for them? Is this that arbitrary kind of 'rooting' where you don't really watch but if someone asks you have a 'favorite team'? Or do you actually sit there watching Flyers games with a bucket in your lap?
Hey Bobby Clarke and the Flyers make me puke like a drunk teenager too, so maybe that's the problem.
As for the Caps... very impressive win over the defending Stanley Cup Champions. It was the
'Alexanders' show and that's great news for the Caps and Caps fans. Their best shot at the playoffs is to get Ovie firing early and firing often, and it will certainly help him to have someone else on his line that can put the puck in the net. Semin bagging a hat rick in their first home game is definitely a great way to start. they need to get on a roll and stay on one and with Kolzig in net, they can contend every night. A couple of hot streaks, and consistent play, and they might make the playoffs for the first time in a while.

As long as they play the way they did on home, as opposed to the way they played in New York, they at least have a shot. Heck, they're 1-0 in the division. That's more than I can say for some other teams in this area.

As a resident of Delaware, I guess I root for almost all Philly teams: Phillies, Flyers, Sixers. When it comes to the NFL, however, I have too much class to root for the Eagles.
Now, as far as being a "fan" is concerned, I actually like baseball...so I actively "cheer" for the Phillies. I hate basketball and I'm certainly not fond of hockey so while I'll "root" for the Flyers and Sixers, I never lose any sleep when they suck or lose.
