After rough night covering Eagles, Pack release Carroll

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- A day after two of his errors helped fuel a Philadelphia Eagles victory, former first-round draft pick Ahmad Carroll was released by the Green Bay Packers.
Packers general manager Ted Thompson said Tuesday the team released the cornerback who was drafted in the first round in 2004.
In the Eagles' 31-9 win Monday night in Philadelphia, Carroll's blown coverage led to a touchdown that put Philadelphia ahead 17-9, and a costly penalty by him led to another.
Carroll played 34 games in four seasons and started 28 of them. He had 104 tackles, 95 solo, three interceptions, three sacks, 26 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Have you seen this guy play? This guy is garbage. If any team signs him, it will only be because he was a former 1st Round pick.

Well, I haven't heard of the guy since he was drafted. Its not like I watch a lot of Green Bay games! Plus, how many times have we taken another teams cast off and made them into a decent player.......Sellers, Walt Harris, Holdman, etc.....

I'm pretty sure i counted at least 4 times that he lost his jock strap on monday night, and two other times that he had to commit a penalty because he was about to lose it. I'd rather have Diet Pepsi machine than that guy!

Yes, but you could almost say the same thing about Mike Rumph (just change "Green Bay" to "San Fran"), and not only did he make our final roster, we're actually playing him. It's rare, but one team's bust has become another team's treasure in the past.

Yes, but you could almost say the same thing about Mike Rumph (just change "Green Bay" to "San Fran"), and not only did he make our final roster, we're actually playing him. It's rare, but one team's bust has become another team's treasure in the past.
Okay, and so would say Rumph is actually playing well?
I mean Rumph is doing alright, but have you noticed how many big plays our secondary has given up already...
And I'll tell you this, Rumph is way better than Carroll.

You probably know better than me - I haven't seen a complete Green Bay game in a while. I don't know nearly enough about Carroll to offer an informed opinion about him personally; I was more just speaking about players cut by other teams generally.

Am I reading this right?
How could he have been drafted in 2004 and played 34 games in four seasons?

And that's just the Redskins sterotype that I want this team to get away from.
I mean, right when a big name player gets cut, everyone is like "Oh, the Redskins should/will go after him..."
And I haven't seen too many G.B. games either but I did see that Monday Night game. And I saw Carroll get burned 24/7, and we don't need that.

We need to keep our roster set now. While I don't see Rumph or Wright ever being starters they're okay nickel and dime backs. They're getting familiar with each other and they're playing better. Bringing in a new guy changes all that. Continuity is a must. I think our OLine is starting to come together because of being together for a year.
I really think we're changing too many guys each year. A good team might replace 10-12, we keep changing 17-20 guys -- that's too many.

I agree, but if Shanw isn't up to it we need to bring someone in.
Mr. Carrol should not be that someone
