Hognostications NFL Week 5

The dust has not settled after a tumultuous win against the Jags and here I am starting the thread for NFL Week 5. I am posting the schedule now so that you can start -thinking- about your picks with enough time in advance.

You know the drill. I do not need to remind you how critical just a couple of picks can be EVERY week among this VERY TOUGH crowd. Some posters have a tremendous pace and others recovered A LOT of ground from the bottom of the standings to a level of traditional respectability. Others had a tough week and their updated overall standings reflect this fact. Incredible, how a few games change things in a tight race.

Enjoy.

Two games that jump right out at me as being great games to watch:

Redskins-Giants (not just because I'm a homer)

Cowboys-Eagles (fans getting their batteries ready for T.O.)

For me, it's OAK v. SF. But that's just me.

I was in Vegas for most of last week and noticed that the giants were favored by 6.5 on Friday  I would expect a small change in those odds the next few days!

The Redskins will be 3-2 next week :D

It was too good to be true. 12 - 1 before Monday night? So, trips are always useful, eh?

By the way, the line is today: NYG -4.0 -110

Those of you who come to these threads in search of news and discussions about our Hognostications really should remember that we have a Main Hognostications Page and the links there will give you A LOT of information that was unavailable last season.

In addition to the Picks form that you fill-in every week, you have:

- Weekly Pool Standings

- Season Pool Standings

- Pool Consensus

- Pool History

and last but not least, ALL the player STATPACKS:

- Player Statpacks

I have the impression that VERY FEW of you have pressed these links lately, the last one in particular. Go ahead. Visit the main page regularly and keep youselves informed.

Okay, after reviewing this week's games, I am predicting two upsets. No, I'm not picking them in my Hognostication picks (because I'm lame), but I really think these two teams have a chance and upsetting the favored pick:

1. The Bills beat the Bears.

and

2. The Jets beat the Jaguars.

Tune in next week and see how I did.

You mean tune in next week and see how many more games you can butter both sides of the bread on? :lowblow:

If you were REALLY predicting two upsets... then your picks would reflect that, wouldn't they?

If you don't actually pick the Bills and the Jets, then aren't you really just voicing the two games you were least confident in your selections?

Yep.

There are just two games that I have a "hunch" about. My "hunch" isn't enough to pursuade me to actually pick them, however.

Now, if my "gut was telling me", that would be a different story!

Who says a lesson in anatomy is not useful to prepare our Hignostications!

By the way guys, I already submitted my Counterpoint and picks for the Hognosticationssection of the board. They willbe posted soon, usually by Thursday sometime. Good luck and let's get that PRFECT score.

I once had a hunch and my gut was telling me it wasn't the booze. I went with the hunch

1) The new articles by Texas Hog and myself have been posted in the main Hognosticationspage. You may want to check our picks and either to share a few or to avoid them altogether considering our performances. We are in a struggle to find out who ends up exactly in the -middle- of the standings.

Or just as bad you can consider number 2 or 3 below:

2) The picks made by Peter "the Sleazy" Queen:

Indianapolis 34, Tennessee 10
Washington 27, New York Giants 16
Carolina 16, Cleveland 9
Green Bay 30, St. Louis 20
Minnesota 16, Detroit 12
New Orleans 20, Tampa Bay 17
Chicago 30, Buffalo 6
New England 17, Miami 16
Arizona 19, Kansas City 10
Jacksonville 16, New York Jets 13
Oakland 31, San Francisco 30
Dallas 23, Philadelphia 20
San Diego 18, Pittsburgh 14
Baltimore 20, Denver 16

3) The picks made by the ESPN "professional experts" for week 5 are beginning to trickle in:

Theisman et al.

Well, my picks are made, and I may have to revise the ETA for my perfect score. It's hard to imagine any way that I could possibly be wrong on any of these picks. I even remembered not to pick the Raiders this time. By Tuesday morning, you will all be in awe of my genius.

Those of us whom are about to die salute you, Cesar.

Is it you Nero?

By the way guys, just like the Brit, PLEASE remember to submit your Hognostications ON TIME. The deadline is:

Week 5: Friday October 6th (9:00 PM)

NO EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER!!! :explode:

I want to try too many pain killers today. Not only because I want the Halifax Police and my press agent to get it wrong but also because I am REALLY in PAIN.

What is the world coming down to? Not one but TWO THN staff members broke this week an oath of loyalty and support for their team. Guys, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Can you see youselves in the mirror this morning without feeling ashamed and low? I think NOT.

Well, it is time to rcapitulate the WHO IS WHO on this board:

Seven TRAITORS inducted in the Week 2 HALL OF SHAME

ATV
Countertrey
Dmkskins86
JPM36
Justice HOG
riggins85
Scottish Hog

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

One TRAITOR and lowly Blogger inducted in the Week 4 HALL OF SHAME

CHADDUKES
:puke:

Two TRAITORS and STAFF members inducted in the Week 5 HALL OF SHAME

FFA
Jake

:puke: :puke:

The latest pack of TRAITORS this week is particularly painful because:

Question: Does picking Dallas this week make you not a Skins fan, or any less of one?

My answer: While picking Dallas this week does not mean that you are not a fan of the Skins, and it does not mean that you are any less of one. . . (we've removed negative attribution here)

. . .nevertheless there is something to be said for Redskins fans that DO pick the Skins to win week in, week out AND believe each prediction to be true, good, and not false hope.

Therefore, it can be said that Skins fans whose loyalty extends to Hognostications adds to their fandom without condemning those that don't follow these actions.

I doubt that's going to make anyone happy, but it's the way that I see it.

. . .as for me, I will always pick the Skins.

Exactly, brother. No room in the pig pen for anyone eating bacon.

Well, I guess in the end there is something to be said about "some" Skins fans: How does the bacon taste?

Join Joe Theisman ot tell us that this is a BAD mistake. Say it ain't so.
