Whose to blame?

I think Brunell, I just dont know if he's capable anymore of leading this offense. Saunders plays call for short routes and long routes. But Brunell consistantly decises to throw short nomatter how long it is to the 1st down.
Brunell just needs to step down in my opinion and give the kid a chance to play. I know the O-Line is not playing well and we have no running game right now, but I mean Brunell does'nt even take shots down the field anymore. Its almost like he is scared to mke a mistake and just let the ball fly. Just my opinion.......

Definitely Mark's inabilityt to run for 100+ yds like Mike Vick did yesterday. If he'd done that, our running game would have been much better, and it would have set up the pass a lot more.

the lack of a running game is an automatic when your QB can't throw the ball. all the D has to do is stack the line.

Just another sugar coating of the fact that Brunell is just past his prime and cant handle the job anymore. The cowgirls basically said Brunell your going to have to beat us with your arm and they stacked the line. Stop making exscuses for Brunell he is old and washed up its time to let go. We need the young guy in there. Sure the running game wasnt there but even if it was we still need to produce even if the running game isnt there. If we were in the Super Bowl and the opposing team decided that there gonna stack the line and stop the run and they do it effectively. Then wed have to turn to our Passing game ala Brunell. If the time comes when we need our passing game I want the guy who will at least give us a chance Brunell is not that anymore. He once was a good player but is clearly past his prime. Please no more exscuses from anybody covering up for this guy. His last 9 games and counting he has failed to put together a decent game. NO MORE EXSCUSES!!!!!!!!

Brunnell is able to be very dimplomatic in his post-game and pre-game interviews. Blah blah blah. The fact is, there are borderline quarterbacks and rookie quarterbacks in the NFL (on teams with less talent than the Redskins) who are doing a better job than Brunnell. It's absolutely pitiful. Brunnell should make a fairly nice BACKUP. As far as I'm concerned, his days as a starter in the NFL are essentially through, regardless of whether Gibbs decides to keep throwing him out there. Sorry, nice guy, great "leader", but he simply no longer has the skills. Yes, there's a reason the Jaguars chose a rookie over him THREE YEARS AGO.

I had to vote for Brunell for being the primary problem because Gibbs' name wasn't on the ballot. It's Gibbs' almost unbelievable fault that Brunell is still allowed to play.

the fact that he wasn't yanked during this game is utterly incomprehensible... just like '04. i feel like i'm in the friggin' twilight zone or something.

The problem is the same as last year, no team is scarred he's going to beat them, stack 8 in the box and stop the run, no matter who's carring it. The Redskins are in a tough situation, Brunell's not showing anything, and I keep hearing JC is not ready, but I don't think he could be any worse right now, this ship has to be righted before its to late.

Without question Brunell's inability to execute even the most menial of tasks is this offense's biggest problems. There's no other options on this team though. If Brunell looks like crap against the Texans it'll be Campbell's time, not because he's ready, but by default.
Patten, Duckett, Betts, or a draft pick for Ramsey anyone...?

Needs to be said again.
And how is JC supposed to get ready without play time? It's time to bench Brunell!
i VOTED Brunell, but this is NOT Brunells fault....

[long time lurker, first time poster, 35 year Skins fan.]
There can be NO doubt in anyone’s mind that Brunell gives us NO vertical downfield game (not to mention other obvious deficiencies), so at best, we have a 60% offense. NO team that is handicapped like that will ever compete for a Championship. Joe Gibbs obviously knows that.
Although I bristle now when I see Brunells mug on the sideline, I always try to remind myself that it is NOT Brunell's fault that he can no longer throw downfield, run, win games, or be competitive anymore. That is a physical fact of life for him, he cannot change it; but someone could do something about it.
The success/failure of this game, all games, and this team, at this time, rests with ONE person: Joe Gibbs.
I have worshipped Gibbs since his arrival (and I'm talking about his FIRST arrival), and he has put MANY glorious moments in my memory bank, so what he has done in the last 12 months starting with benching Ramsey is beyond my comprehension.
Gibbs has always been loyal to his players, that’s fine, but with Brunell it has turned into a ‘loyalty-phobia’. Given the obvious fact that Brunell will ONLY continue to deteriorate, Gibbs’ fanatical support of the guy is so irrational that it borders on some sort of neurotic mental disorder, really.
I am NOT trying to be insulting to Gibbs, but the ENTIRE sports world knows that Brunell should have been gone LAST year, not to mention not starting this year. So, I am beyond frustrated trying to figure out what is going on in Gibbs' head, it is certainly not based in reality. Until Gibbs sorts through and conquers his unfounded loyalty-phobia, I am afraid we will have Mr. Brunell leading us to one lackluster loss after another.
sorry, end of rant.

You really can't put this all on Brunell, folks. If the guy had time to throw....ANY time to throw....he probably would have been better.
Our OL stunk up the joint.

The worst part is that Brunell will probably look alot better playing against the Texans next weekend.
We're basically replaying the post Marino Dolphins' mistakes right now. Wasting an awesome defense while trying to plug in Fiedlers, Frerottes, Feelys etc; at the most important position on the field.

That's a good point - there's literally thousands of fans in the first three rows, so Brunell needs time to find an open man before chucking it into the stands!
"Hmmm... no, not that guy - he's holding two beers . . . no, not that guy - he's looking at his nachoes . . . ah, there's someone open!" [sails ball into Section 134].

It's looking like 2004 all over again, except that year, we won the opener.
Has any team come back from 0-2 and won the Super Bowl?

Brunell is completely to blame for last nights loss.. Look at his eyes as he is looking to his receivers he never looked deep once last night, until the end of the game.
I honestly believe he lost confidence in his arm, and it got worse after the interception. we are 0-2 we can't get any worse lets bring in JC and if a season has to be sacked let it be here and now... Let the kid take his lumps because at least at the end of the day we can all say... Hes learning.
There is an upside with JC there is no upside with brunell he obviously doesn't know this offense as well as we were led to believe.

I saw Brunell skip at least 3 passes into the dirt, 2 of which were for a 1st down. OL definately needs to step up but Brunell is mostly at fault. I blame Saunders a bit for not calling shorter routes if he didn't do so.
my take...

Not only is Brunell old as dirt, but he's a stupid QB as well. The critical point in the game was the offensive series (offensive as in putrid) after Sean Taylor stripped the ball from Julius Jones. We had momentum and a TD maybe turns the game around. Brunell then proceeds to throw a Billy Kilmer special into double coverage and the game, for all intent and purpose, is over. We never challenge again. It will not get better with Brunell behind center. I see this team's troubles coming down to having a pathetic starting QB, an O-line that has difficulty pass blocking, and a D-line that can't mount a pass rush. If you can't sack Drew Bledsoe then you can't sack anyone. Where was Andre Carter last night?

WOW. I can honestly say that I was a Brunell hater two years ago. Last year he did pretty well I thought. He took us to the playoffs, right? No he can't run with the ball. His arm strenght is not an issue as we all saw last year he got the job done. Now we pick on his vision; ie. what he's not seeing. Last year we moved him out of the pocket alot...why are we not doing this again?
Frankly I belive it's Gibbs fault. It takes 3 years to learn an offense usually. Last year we looked good because the players knew the plays and blocking assignments. What I keep seeing this year is a break down on every play and it's in different positions. The OL is not blocking well for either pass or run. Which is why Brunell has to get the ball out sooner; ie, dink and dunk passing. The Receivers are not running the right routs or are not getting open in time.
The Defense has no excuse! 3 players do not make a team. LA has not done much in the Giants scheme. I have not heard Clark mentioned in any Pits games. Springs is the only one still with the team but out. The D as a whole was doing good for 3 quarters. However I still saw some one arm tackles and bad angles from all.
Blame who you wish but I'll blame Gibbs and the new system which will probubly take most of this year to learn. Look to the SB next year.
Brunell...

I don't hate Brunell. I liked him when he was a young guy at Jacksonville. His time is past, however. Him being in the game plain and simply hurts the team and it'll be that way all year. I'd rather see Campbell in there taking his lumps. Gibbs has always been loyal to veteran QBs though. Remember during Gibbs first term in DC, the season when Theismann got his leg broken? If memory serves, he wasn't having a good year when he got hurt. In fact, I believe we would've lost to the Giants that night if Jay Shroeder hadn't come in to replace him and probably wouldn't have made the playoffs either.
It's one thing to no longer have the physical tools, like Brunell. It's another thing to make incredibly stupid decisions like he does and he does it far too often for my liking.

The best part of it all, is that Joe probably thinks the same thing, and that's reassuring, since he will do everything within his might to rectify the solution. That ceratinly puts me at ease.

The only problem is learning a new offense. Too bad you didn't just tweak what you had going for you last year. No deep passes...
