1. Brunell is AWEFUL. I loved what he did for us last year, but he looks timid, does'nt take shots downfield, and throws the ball away at the drop of a hat. I'd rather have a young QB (Campbell) who just may be cocky enough to take shots downfield. Sure he may throw interceptions but atleast he takes chances. Im so sick and tired of Brunell throwing dump off passes to the RB on 3rd and long. Grow some marbles and take a shot downfield. Every offensive play we run has different passing patterns, not all are short. Brunell chooses to check off the deep passes to throw short. I think he has heard to many times that he "doesnt need to make mistakes". Maybe its imbedded in his head that he cant take chances down the field. Whate Wver is going on at redskins park needs to change. What I saw tonight made me sick, no offense at all and our defense started shaky, played well, then buckled down the stretch.



Game ball - As sad as this is, gotta give it to Frost who ACTUALLY punted very well. And give it to Rock for the return, but he has always been one of my favorites and not Frost. So Im going to give it up to Frost tonight, he actually punted well.


To make a long story short, I wanna see Campbell AND Im pretty worried for this team this year. Hopefully getting Springs back will help but who knows. And our offense still looks lik garbage. Just my opinions.......

Im going to stand by our defense. Our defense has NEVER taken us out of a game. I can't remeber a game that has not been in our grasp. You can't expect a defense to be on the field as long as ours is and expect them to shut out teams. I agree the defense has some issues but they aren't the issue. If our offense could sustain a drive we'd have the same defense from last year. - Springs

I'll agree with you that our Offense is losing games, not our Defense. But I mean comeon, I LOVE the skins defense but they ARE NOT playing well. They carried us last year yea, but this is a new year and so far in 2 games this season they have not impressed. Granted I trust GW with the scheme and think it will be figured out when Springs returns, but until then we need out defense to carry us because our offense is not.

They have tons of room for improvement but we're not losing because of them. Considering the loss of Springs things could be worse.

agreed, just venting here. Everything all together, this team is in a hell of alot of trouble unless we start producing QUICK

We aren't going anywhere without a QB and right now we don't have an NFL caliber QB.

I think he just needs to retire. The part that looks bad on the coach is that all pre season, Gibbs kept proclaiming that Jason would play more in preseason because Mark didn't need the practice as a vet.

Well I can bet that Jason could have executed the plays that he knows to a tune higher than a 20 something passer rating.

I don't blame Brunell at all, except that he should have retired while still on top. I blame the brass who play him. He's being embarassed and the team is being embarassed. It's blatantly obvious he's through and has been since before the playoffs last year, when we were carried by Portis.

Speaking of Portis, I'd like to know why he wasn't playing. Was it because he's injured or a result of Gibbs' notion of discipline. What I've heard is that it was because he didn't suit up in practice this week; and that he was surprised he was benched for taking what seemed a sensible precaution.

It's ironic that Gibbs benched him for playing it safe and then played it safe by keeping him out of the game, if that is what he did. It doesn't jive.

I also remember Gibbs holding him out of a game his first year with us for no apparent reason.

I don't think there's much love between them. Portis blamed Gibbs for getting him hurt in the exhibition game.

Why was it again that Gibbs gave Ramsey away and picked up Collins? I agree with Madden. The Redskin problem is that its players are being mishandled. Expect another tough game in Houston.

Brunell wasn't getting any protection, the o-line was getting blown up. constantly. Carter was having no luck trying to get by Flozell Adams, and the lack of a decent second corner left us pretty wide open. Portis being out did'nt help either. It was cool to see Duckett out there and Sean Taylor was a complete bad-ass.

complete badass? yea he made some good hits but he also got exploited in coverage. I love ST as much as anyone but man he didnt play very well in the secondary. The deep TD Dallas threw was on Taylor, he bit inside and the receiver went outside. All that being said, he did make some big hits and hold his own

yes-- if every pass you throw falls to the ground incomplete, your passer rating is still 39.58... yet our QB found a way to get in the 20s. that takes some effort! campbell can't possibly do worse, collins couldn't do worse, randle el couldn't do worse.

I disagree... the defensive alignment got exploited on that play, not ST... no way he could cover T.O. and Glen over the top on that play... once Glen crossed mid field, the defense was at the mercy of whoever could get deep enough... in that case, no way could Marshall get deep enough or could ST cover that much ground...

You hit the nail on the head, Brunell does not feel comfortable in the pocket, he is not able to slide around or step up in the pocket like a QB is supposed too, and he dosent have the legs to step into a throw and thats why it goes short. There is no zip on the ball and he isnt getting protection.

That seems to be a big deal in this offense. The WR isn't "open" when you throw the ball, you throw it to a spot and trust him to get there. I think you have to be pretty darn comfy with the system to fling it out there.

ITS SO OBVIOUS!.....We have fantastic coaches with proven track records. FACT!...We have an above average receiving corp when you include cooley and betts and portis FACT!. We have an offensive line that is probably rates in the top quartile in the league ...Yet we have an offense THAT IS WOEFULLY PUTRID......Especially on the road

I completely disagree. There were some plays where the O-line blew up, but in most cases, Brunell had more than three seconds to throw the ball, but seemed gun shy to do so. All in all, I thought the O-line improved from last week, and played decent

I disagree here joe ...

Time and time again I saw the Cowgirls edge rushers meet Brunell as he was finishing the drop back and getting set to pass.

Sometimes Brunell was able to step up and throw the ball (straight at people's feet)

Other times Brunell stepped up to avoid that rush from the outside and someone on the inside of the O-line "forgot" to block their guy.

I mean lets take a look at things. They were getting pressure rushing just 4 guys. To get pressure we gotta blitz our LB's and sometimes our corners. When you've got 5 guys blocking 4 you shouldn't get sacked.

1. 12.5% of the season is over and we haven’t won a game yet?
2. Isn’t this the same team that won five in a row to finish 2005?
3. What happen to that top 5 defense?
4. Why is Mark Brunell reverting to his 2004 form?
5. Why is this team so inconsistent?

Five questions that I’m trying to get straight in my head, in order to gauge where the Skins really are and what’s really going on. We just can’t be this bad.

These are the answers I come up with …

1. Yes, it’s a fact the Skins are 0-2 and at the bottom of the NFC East. At the same time the other 3 teams are tied for first, making the team 1 game out of first.

2. No, the team has changed a lot since that run to the playoffs last year. New players, and new coaches means new schemes and new roles

3. 4. & 5. I keep getting stuck on answer #2 with all of these questions because that seems to be the whole issue.

Back to answer 2 then:

The defense as changed quite a bit since last year, the D-line now as a “edge rusher” 2 rookies also made the team. The LBs are what they are until Rocky is ready fulltime. The secondary is influx due to injury and so many new faces. Guys like Rumpth, Wright, Fox, and AA weren’t here last year, Springs was here last year but hasn’t played this year. Throw in Coach Gray and there’s a large group of people trying to accomplish something while trying to learn each other. That would explain some of the inconsistency. The fact that the defense has been on the field a lot longer over the past two games when compared to the last 5 last year, this can be explained by looking at 3rd down. Last year the team converted 42% of it’s third down attempts and held opponents to 36%. Two weeks in we are converting 22% of our attempts. This leaves the defense out there longer and they are giving up a 45% conversion rate.

The offense went a different type of change in the off-season. Wide-out were added and Gibbs gave up the play-calling. This was huge because these changes will take time to see the benefits from. It’s not a new offense per-say because the systems are very similar, however Gibbs was a run-based and Saunders has a more pass oriented attack. Add the continuity that must come from the WRs and the QBs, and subtract Clinton Portis.Then you move the best H-back in the league to TE fulltime because the new scheme doesn’t have a H-back

As far as Brunell goes, what can I say I saw one of the ugliest pass ever to be thrown last night. Everyone wants to know when he’ll be replaced, I want to know why he can make the deep throw. If this isn’t correctable then he is of no use in a pass based attack. Mark struggled in 2004 because he was learning a new system. If he is struggling for the same reasons in 2006 than maybe the playbook is just to big.

Things are already looking up.

1. Special teams is improving. Cartwright had a big night last night, Frost was punting like a NLF punter, and what a lot of people may have missed is John Hall was handling kickoffs last night.
2. Shawn Springs is listed as Day-to-Day for the 1st time all season.
3. Portis will be a go.
4. and we play that other team in Texas.


One win will make everything better and always does plus it will be a starting point.
We just have to get that first win.
