NFL dream dashed for now, Lumsden returns to Ticats

Hamilton — Jesse Lumsden will be playing football in his own backyard for at least the next season and a half.

As expected, the Burlington, Ont., raised running back came to terms Wednesday on a contract for two years plus an option with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Ticats are expected to formally announce the signing Thursday.

The new pact, which will see the former McMaster Marauder superstar complete the 2006 season with the 2-11 Tabbies as well as the 2007 campaign.

Lumsden, who turned 24 last month, will join his new team at practice Thursday. While the final decison rests with the coaching staff, there is a chance the six-foot-two, 226-pounder will be in the lineup Saturday night when the Tiger-Cats host the 4-7 Edmonton Eskimos. Lumsden would likely be limited to returning kickoffs.

Good luck to Jesse. Maybe someday he will be in an NFL camp that is not so heavy with running backs.

I hope that this helps Jesse land back on his feet. I still think it really sucks that he is not here.
