O-Line could be a major problem

Yes, I know. We have Pro-Bowl O-Linemen. And yes, I was only able to see the first half of the game (SEE: DVR Disaster). But I saw Minnesota's D-Line own our O-Line all night. Brunell didn't have a lot of time, and when you use swing passes and screens to slow them down, any defense with an IQ can start to pick that up.
And Moss needs to come up with that catch in the endzone in the final few minutes of the 2nd quarter...

No one, NO ONE should fault Moss for not holding onto the ball in the end zone. If any one does, please feel free to step into his shoes and take that hit for him.

Yeah, Minny's D-Line is excellent, and can really rush the passer (Erasmus James, Kenechi Udeze) along with some prime run stuffing DT's (The Williams boys)... but I thought we had Chris Samuels, Jon Jansen, Randy Thomas... and they were supposed to stop that stuff?
Our guys got pushed around like they were a practice sled. It was ridiculous.
IMO Brunell did an excellent job making very quick reads, and getting rid of the ball. It was an absolute miracle he didn't get sacked multiple times.

I've seen Moss come up with catches after harder hits than that... It was a great hit... but maybe I'm just bitter overall

The problem isn't as much the offensive line as it is Brunell/playcaling. It was obvious from the start of the game last night that the Vikes didn't respect our passing game, especially our ability to throw deep. Just look back at the game to see how close their entire defense was playing to the line of scrimmage. We attempted 1 deep pass and we have 3 receivers capable of catching deep balls. Without that threat the Vikes defense was able to pin its ears back and go after Brunell because they didn't have to worry about getting burned deep if they didn't get there.

Derrick Dockery is trash, once again he could not block a DB. He pushed the DB and he (Derrick) fell down yet the DB stayed up and made the tackle.
O-line IS a major problem...

I saw the same jailbreaks last night that I saw in the pre-season game against New England. I thought we were supposed to have studs, too, but they've reminded me of a certain part of the female anatomy for the entire pre-season and game 1. Is the problem motivation? Getting adjusted to Saunders' schemes? Bugel?

The O-Line is my biggest concern right now. Everything else on Offense follows the Line. If you can't protect, you can't pass. If you can't push, you can't run.

Maybe I missed something, but I don't recall any sacks. I thought the O-line played very well against a very good and very talented defensive line. I haven't watched the television coverage, but from my seats in the stadium, I saw some good O-line play.

Well, I wouldn't call it good, but you're right - there were no sacks on Brunell, at least according to NFL.com.

No sacks, true, but on more than one 3rd down, there was pressure off the corners which forced Brunell to throw the ball away.

Even though there were no sacks, the hurries and disruptions that lead to 3 and out's is just like taking a sack.....

From what I saw, (granted, not the entire game) it looked like the O-line was getting pushed around quite a bit.
It looked like every play Brunell had to get rid of the bal within like 2 seconds.
IMO it's a miracle that he wasn't sacked.

I'm glad someone else noticed that, he just ran outside and laid down on the ground at the DB's feet... the DB looked at him like, "dude what are you doing?" then he stepped around him and made the tackle... that play could've gone for 10 yards if Dockery would've just pushed the DB or stood in front of him...

I must have a problem with my high def picture, because on my TV they looked very bad... put it this way, their D-line looked way better than our D-line and their O-line looked way better than our O-line... if this game is won in the trenches and we looked that bad compared to Minnesota, we're in for a bumpy ride...

I don't think our D-line was
terrible, just not great either. Overall, they were about a C. They got one sack and nearly stripped the ball another time (that left-handed pass B. Johnson nearly pulled off - impressive improvisation). There was some pressure on the QB, but not consistently. They also held Minn. to 86yds combined rushing, on 35 attempts, for <3yd average. Given how bad the secondary played minus Springs, the D-line is going to have to turn in an A performance against Dallas.

Wasn't it Washington (not the D-line) that almost stripped the ball?

Their O and Dline is better than ours... You won't find too many people that will disagree with that!
But our team as a whole is better tha theirs. But thet did make the plays when it counted.
Our offense will egt better as the year goes on. What scared me was the play of the D-line. Man the Vikes O-line domminated them.

It starts with the lines and if their o-line and D-line is better than we need to upgrade. This is after the fact so I can't say I would have done this but maybe we should have just took away some of the signings and signed Steve Hutchinson.

Our O-line did not play well, but I remember at the end of last season, this same line was playing excellently. Dockery and Thomas were out front on sweeps blocking like all-pros. Sure they are playing like crap now, but they will get it together. I'm just hoping they get things worked out in time to whip the 'Pies next week.

Our O-Line will be better with Portis back and Duckett up to speed. Betts didn't do the job and that let them pin their ears back and go after Brunnell.
The D-Line didn't get much pressure. Williams will certainly blitz more like he did last year, but they signed Andre for this, he needs to contribute more w/o needing blitzing all the time to get more pressure!
