Worried about Portis

Looking at Redskins.com, all you hear is Gibbs saying stuff like, "If Clinton is ready to go on Monday, he'll play. It'll be up to him whether he feels he's healthy enough, etc."

Now I'm getting concerned that Portis might not be in there Monday.

Anyone else hear about his status for Monday?

I haven't heard much about his status, but I do know, that if he can't play we'll probably still crush the Vikes.

The Vikings have two pass rushing ends, and I think running Ducket off tackle will really pay off.

We aslo have Betts who can take it up the middle or swing around so I think the run game is going to be solid.

Once we establish that, we have three excellent recievers.

It's going to be a good game.

If it's really 'up to him', then you have nothing to worry about. One thing I've learned about Portis is that it is in his nature to be there, hurt or not.

Plus, I believe that Al Saunders has the ability to create a successful game plan whether Portis is there or not.

I almost rather he just get the surgery and be ready for the playoffs. We can get there with TJ.

Not that I know for sure but we are told this was not a "bad" separation and more of a "mild" separation. I do not think there is any surgery option available for this "concern". It should only be a matter of time and I think he has had that. I have a feeling that they did not need to aggravate it and that he will be fine.
We might not see him getting many plays called for him that would involve too many hits on that area - I think he may be part of the game plan but not in the same role, Betts and Duckett can do the majority of that. I am hoping we get to see Portis catching the ball in the open field!!!

I am not concerned about Portis for this game and am convinced he will play a great game in game 2 against whoever happens to be unlucky enough to be playing us then.

We can beat the Vikings without Portis.... but I sure as hell still want him out there.

Maybe Portis is ok and will play and this is merely a smokescreen for the Vikings. Not sure, but I hope this is the case. If not, then I think the back-ups will do fine.

Portis will play Monday night. And, no, I don't have any confirmation of that, I just know it in my gut.

John Clayton of ESPN just reported that even though Portis is listed as "questionable" for Monday night, he will most likely be able to play based on comments from team sources.

Questionable, huh? Code for, Of course CP will play. Judging by the remarks that Clinton made about the pre-season I would not be surprised if he has known for weeks that he will be ready for the real thing. That sling may have been more for the media than Mr. Portis. Keep um' guessin'

Sigh... I just hope he's not rushing it back. I would much rather have him at 100% before he takes the field again.

Portis was quoted at his Thursday presser that "didn't want to rush coming back" and "it still a bit sore".

When asked why he wasn't in costume he said "I am, I'm the injured player"

take it for what it's worth...

From the Post...

Portis said he's about 75 percent, would not be ready to play if he had to today and sounds very skeptical about being ready for Monday. he kept talking about the long-term and not doing anything to hurt himself for the long haul by rushing back.

He said he's 75 percent right now, and does not want to come back until he's 100 percent.

When he comes back he wants to be himself, a 25-carry back, and with so much time off and so few hits under his belt, that's not him right now. Said it would probably take at least two tough practices for him to be ready to play, and, unless he was doing some serious bluffing, I'd say don't start him on your fantasy teams and prepare to see a lot fo Ladell Betts Monday night.

Howard Bryant is also reporting in the Post today that Portis is out for Monday.

I hear Portis is out. He says a needs a couple of full contact days in practice to get back in football shape. He says he's 75%. People who think Betts will make up for Portis not being there are a bit too optimistic; I hope we come out throwing to four receivers and use Randal El virtually the whole game and Sellers as a tailback. We need him to pass block and run for short yardage. I'm not sold on Duckett and don't think much of Betts, in spite of his impressie flashes.

Remeber, Saunders uses the pass to set up the run which correct me if Im wrong is opposite from Gibbs style. If we can pass effectively, we'll be just fine.
