This move really surprises me. I thought he was having a very good preseason!

Yeah I didn't see it coming and don't understand it. He'll be picked up somewhere.

Andy Reid is stupid! I mean, who DOES he have as a wide reciever now?

Oh my God people, McCants is not that good, he can't play special teams, he's not very fast, he just doesn't contribute much to a pro football team.

Why would anyone be surprised by this news?

Well maybe because if you are only able to follow it in the press... it would have appeared that DM had a good camp.

Darnerian McCants has made some spectacular catches in practice and continues to make plays on special teams. He should make the roster because of his gunner status on special teams.

Taking up most of the headlines at receiver has been last year’s No. 5 Darnerian McCants, rookie fourth-round draft pick Jason Avant, and undrafted sensation Hank Baskett.
Full

Darnerian McCants (4 catches/69 yards) and Jason Avant (3 catches/55 yards) had nice nights and came out of the game feeling good about their chances. McCants, said that he won't sweat out the final moments. "I've said before, it's not in my hands, so I'm not going to worry about it. I don't make those decisions." Jabar Gaffney (3 catches/28 yards) kept the heat on in his pursuit of a roster spot with the team.

One thing that could help McCants, who appears to be battling with Gaffney for the final spot, is that he plays well on special teams, which the Eagles emphasize. Gaffney isn't on the special teams unit, which could lessen his value. McCants also made a beautiful grab on a key 23 yard pass from Feeley that put the Eagles on the Jets' one-yard line.

It would seem that you question others' reasoning for liking someone when the better question might be why would someone NOT think he was going to make the Eagles if they'd been following along in the news?

Your accusing someone of making an assumption based on a predisposition when it sounds more likely that you are the one guilty of the offense. Whether you like DM or not isn't really consequential as to if he had a good camp and was going to make the team.

The general concensus in the media was that he WAS going to make the team... nobody foresaw the Eagles blowing up their WR corps like they ended up doing yesterday. (Pinkston, Gaffney and McCants cut which really just leaves Greg Lewis and 2nd year Reggie Brown from the 2005 team to go along with FA Hank Baskett, rookie Jason Avant and newly acquired Donte Stallworth). Not exactly a frightening corps of receivers...

Some may be guilty of a homer view towards DM buy aren't you equally in the wrong for letting haterade make your decision for you? Whether you agree or not, most Philly fans and press were surprised that he did not make the roster.

My 2 cents

I can't say that I am surprised. I will be happy for him if he finds a home in the AFC somewhere. I don't think I have ever heard someone's first name misspronounced so much.

That pic is of him tackling a SCRUB in preseason. This dude cant play. How about...the eagles have no wr depth at all yet he cant make the team? How does that happen. He has zero upside which is why an unknown will beat him everytime.

Chris Carr is not a scrub. Having watched him play in Oakland last season, he's a decent returnman.

BH, I'll admit that I am biased against McCants, I don't like when a no name guy gets all this credit for being a nobody...

Yeah, it's surprising, even to me that McCants sucked so badly he couldn't even make the Eagles over a 4th round pick and an undrafted rookie...

What's the point.

Also, wasn't the reason we dumped DM (more like BM! in your FACE McCants lovers, j/k) because Joe Gibbs said he didn't contribute on ST? Maybe he learned his lesson.

My point ISN'T that he couldn't beat out 'a 4th rounder and an undrafted rookie'... it's that from EVERY report I've read about the Eagles receivers... he HAS beat out all of the incumbents... not one or two... all of them... most reports had McCants being the best receiver the Eagles had in the preseason.

So it doesn't matter what you (or anyone else) actually thinks about the guy, it was still a surprise to most people watching Eagles preseason that he got the axe.

Whether people like him or not, whether people are capable of seeing anything other than the image they have conjured in their head... he played well this offseason and there are a lot of people in Philly that were pretty shocked that he got cut.

That's all I'm trying to say.

I liked McCants a lot and am surprised by this move as well.

I think what happened was that the Eagles had other WRs they felt were just as good as DM but were YOUNGER. In the NFL, if it comes down to two players who are close in talent level, the team will always go with the younger guy. In this case they went with Baskett, Avant, etc....

I hope McCants can catch on somewhere else, although if you are a WR and you can't make the Eagles, your prospects are slim...

Sometimes it really is a "numbers game" He may not be your go to guy, but I thought McCants played well. Anybody here remember a rookie named Keenan McCardell? Maybe DM can hook up with the Chargers (AFC version of Redskins West)

Well I guess I am Biased towards DM myself. My closefried in the Army went to Highshool with him out near Fort Meade, I have spoke with him a few times and he is a very down to earth guy, I hope he lands well no matter what.
