John Hall

As many of you know, Johnny boy shanked a FG last night. Im curious to know how you all feel about this cat.

Special teams seem to be our weakest link. John has yet to prove he can kick, Frost has proved he still can't and neither of them can kick off worth a darn...

How was this overlooked during the offseason?

Well, I won a $1.00 from the kid in front of me. I said, "I bet this knucklehead misses this FG" and he took me up on the bet.

Is Mark Mosley still alive? Can we try him out?

He misses too many games (~14 the last two seasons) and he doesn't seem that exceptional when he's in there. Time to bring in some kickers! 100+ colleges graduate kickers every year - how hard can finding a decent one be?!?! Harder than I think, apparently.

I surprised he is still here. I know Novac was cut by the Cards, but wasn't brought in.

Gramattica and Vanderjagt (probably spelled those both incorrectly) are probably on the market soon.

Gramattica impressed with the Pats but just lost out to their rookie kicker. (In order to win the job is is said that he would have had to vastly outproduce the rook, and he only outproduced him by a fair margin... not enough though.)

He could be worth a shot, as far as punters go... I have no idea.

Gibbs hinted that when they brought in the guy that got hurt, something was identified in what Frost was doing that may have solved the problem. But who knows

You guys know I'm an enternal optimist, at least on the forums lol. But special teams was drastically overlooked and I don't understand how. We went out and got players/upgrades that are argubaly excessive. Some felt we didn't need to get both ARE and Lloyd, one would have sufficed. Some feel Artchuleta wasn't needed, along with TJ. So how can a punter who screwed us in the playoffs not be given stiff competition during the offseason? He can't punt so what made Danny think he could kick off?

Special teams imo is the only legit concern for this team.

I am also very concerned about why this was not addressed with more players being tried out, when it seemed (IMO) that Gibbs indicated (last year) that our special teams play from last season needed attention this year.

WHY was this not addressed, with more players being tried out, until now?

Must be, but I find it hard to believe there aren't 32 guys in the world who can hit a FG from 50 yards, and boot KOs into the end zone consistently.

I'm sure your right. The problem, however, is finding those 32 guys among millions and millions of people all over the world!

I'm sure some of those guys have other preferred sports. If you could be the best soccer player in England, or one of 32 "second-class citizen" kickers in the NFL, which would you choose?

Do we not have a SCOUT group in our team?

Just wondering, Whose job is it really?

I voted nope. Guys without character should not become Redskins.

I say we bring in David Beckham, and have him be the first "crossover" football star. My 2 cents

Yup, our kicking game sucks. I wish we did not have to rely on Hall kicking field goals because he is just not consistent. If he can't make a 40yard field goal, how can we expect him to make something similar in the regular season when it really counts??? There's no way Hall missed out on those 3 points thinking "well its just preseason." I want to see Larry Micheal interview this sucker. What does he have to say for himself, what CAN he say for himself??

Frost is yet another problem. But in the Ravens game, he kind of proved to be less of a problem. The opening kick off landed like around the 3-4 yard line. His punts weren't terrible...he actually had some nice ones.
Punter is definitely another "hole" on this team, but I don't think its as deep as our hole with Hall.

You know...I bit my tongue in another thread in regards to our scout team.... I think they suck personally, at least in contrast to other teams. I marvel at the teams that year after year are able to find viable players deep in the draft, the Ravens are a team that comes to mind.

A lot of people say we dont need the draft...and we dont. But how much better could we be if we had the young cheap talent and the guys we bring in via F/A?

Anyway. I blame Danny Smith for not making this a big deal earlier ine offseason.

Gramattica's already been cut, and I don't think he's been claimed by anyone else yet (has he?), so he's already on the market.
And what makes you think that team in Dallas is going to cut Vanderjagt after signing him to a big contract (for a kicker) this past offseason?

I vote yes. He's 1 of the top kickers in the game.

I heard a possibility of it on ESPN. Thats the only reason I polled it.

This season's had some crazy rumors league-wide. The Post reported yesterday that Mike Williams and Charlie Rogers were on the bubble in Detroit! Two former 1st round picks in the league less than 4 years facing getting cut!?!? I'll believe it when I see it.

Joe Gibbs is trying to stick it out with this guy but he is done, thats why he's not even kicking off. I remember when we first got him he saved us a couple times, he was money from even 50. But everytime he kicks now its scary

The way they've been releasing talented players at a whim, I'd think he would have been the 1st to go.

That is a lot to type on a pocket pc. I have to say we do not sign vanderjaght(however it is spelled) because he cannot make the BIG kick in crucial games.

I don't understand why Gibbs is so committed to this guy. It is not like he was ever a great or even a good kicker. I know it might come as a shock to some of you, but he is the worst kicker in the NFC that has kicked more than one kick in his career. That isn't my opinion it is fact. He has the worst career kicking percentage (74.3%) of all NFC kickers that have actually kicked in the NFL. Right now the Packers have a second year guy that has attempted 1 FG and missed in his NFL life and the Falcons have a rookie kicker. And it isn't like he is accurate up close and misses the long ones he misses from all lengths. From 30-39 yards he is 79.5% (NFC worst), from 40-49 he is 59.7% (only the Bears second year kicker is worse - 3 out of 8 ), from 50+ he is 46.4% (which is third worst). In preseason only three kickers have missed 50% of their kicks; Vanderjerk, Ola Kimrin (remember him) and our boy Hall (that doesn't count his two Shanks in the scrimmage). There are 27 kickers that made ALL OF THEIR KICKS this preseason and I bet they don't have to have a punter kickoff for them!
