Patten or Espy?

has anyone else been as thoroughly unimpressed with david patten as i have? he did nothing last year (even before getting hurt), and so far has already dropped a few balls in the preseason. it would seem to me he is getting by (at least with the fans) on name alone, not performance. mike espy has clearly outperformed him, although mostly against 2nd and 3rd team defenses. however, as a 4th string WR he would be going up against the last-string DBs anyway most of the time.
anyways, just wondering if anyone thinks we might be better off going with espy instead of patten.

At this point, it seems hard to say. Which, I might add, is somewhat of an indictment of Patten, who has definitely had more opportunity to prove himself than Espy.

I think Patten was playing injured before going on IR last yr. His bout with memingitis during camp had to set him back a lot. He has been a productive player through most of his career. I'd keep him & put Espy on PS.

I haven't seen anything from either guy to make me favor one over the other because of skills.
The default, then, is experience.
Horrible way to have to choose...the lesser of two evils.

You can't train NFL experience. Patten has won Superbowls and it will be benificial to our team to have another guy on the squad who can help us out. He really could have helped us last year had he not have been put on IR. I don't see the coaches doing that again this year. Not to mention the cap ramifications it would cost us if we were to trade or cut him.

Patten, he's got rings and leadership.
But I really like ESPY and he's definately P.S. material.

Patten. He's proven in the NFL and Espy is not.

Could you add another option? How about NONE?
How about trading BOTH for a good punter or OL depth?
I abstained. Not happy.

From watching Espy play, he doesnt seem to have that 3rd gear to reel in the long ball.
I voted for Patten.

You know it. Patten was big let down last year. For the right price Id deal him.

Somebody that hired him would have to eat fresh crow and acknowledge that it was a mistake. The sooner the better though. Patten can be manhandled by most physical corners in the NFL.

Oh most definately! He was out muscled for INTs throughout his short season. I was definately dissapointed in him last season. He should be able to handle the Jimohs of the NFL in his 4 position on the depth chart.

Are these options exclusive in that one of these receivers has to be cut? If Gibbs decides to carry 6 receivers, both Patten and Espy could be on that list.

I don't see that right mow. We have injuries at RB, CB & DL. We need to carry enough players at those positions to cover things till everyone is healthy.
