Andre Carter. Is he holding back?

I know this is preseason play but thus far I am not impressed with the play of Andre Carter at the DE position.
He is getting blown off the ball on runs and cannot untangle himself from the LT on the pass. He is showing none of the moves I've seen from him in previous years. What's up with this guy? Are these guys being coached to show nothing on Tape?

I am begining to believe your last question nails it. With Corny out it's going to be difficult to gauge what we're going to see during the regular season. Don't count Andre' out yet.

He was the 4th best player on the worst defense in the NFL last year... and San Fran didn't exactly fight tooth and nail to hang on to him, so what does that tell you... He'll be better this year with better players around him, but I wouldn't expect him to come in and dominate anybody...

Carter was played completely out of position the last couple years... now he's getting back into the mindset of a defensive lineman.
The guy is a play maker, forced fumbles, sacking the QB... I'm worried about the Redskins this year, but Carter isn't even on the problem radar.

Its difficult to gauge him as others have said. The defense is vanilla and people are injured. What I have noticed is that the blitz has opened up a bit more which wasn't the case last year and thats due to more attention being paid to the line.
I also think that 55 made a good point. He's getting used to the system and playing the position again.

Why is vanilla a pejorative? I love vanilla, it's robust and flavorful... stop hating on vanilla.

He was playing out of position the last few yrs. It's probably somewhat of a readjustment. SF doesn't exactly have the best coaches around either.

That may be true but that has nothing to do with Carter's ability to beat a defender one-on-one.

I don't care how vanilla the defense is, when the ball is snapped it's him against the Offensive tackle, it's not like he's getting double teamed... as he's rushing the passer I don't think he says to himself, "I better not try to beat this guy, this is a vanilla defensive package"... the blocking schemes have been vanilla too... It's okay to say he's struggled so far, so have alot of guys, they'll pick it up in the next 12 days...

I wonder if ALL the starters are only giving 80% or so to avoid wear and tear or injuries before the season.

Actually, i watched him a bit during the Pats game, and he was getting pushed off the line by the tight end many times. I'm not sure what's up with him.

Thanks, that was my observation as well.
He has not shown much at all, no speed rush, no bull rush and he get's blown off the ball on the run. Renaldo is more effective.

I think that they are holding back. I am trying to rethink this whole preseason and say that they are just trying different things and when the season starts, we will see a completely different team.

I guess it could be possible that Gregg Williams has instructed them to ease up on the pass rush, but it doesn't seem likely.
What purpose does it serve? To see if the dbacks can cover for a longer period of time?
Plus, I have not heard a player or coach speak of Carter or his impact since camp started. Maybe I missed it, but usually, if someone is impressing in camp, you'll hear a coach or player mention their name.
All that being said, I'll give Carter the benefit of the doubt until the regular season starts.

Joe they interviewed Williams and not only did he say he was impressed, he said Carter was the hardest working man at Redskins Park because he puts in extra work outs and never leaves after practice.
I'm thinking that we are trying to isolate the people in the secondary to see how they can handle the pressure. I mean if there are cracks, we need to find them now.

You don't look like a fool at all, just someone who is geographicly challenged. We get a huge chunk of Redskins new every night locally that you guys never get to see.

I only had the oportunity to watch the 1st game out here in the boondocks, but I'm assuming that we were mostly using simple rush schemes, not too many stunts & such. At least I hope that's true.
