Rumph spent part of practice chatting with Portis, who returned from Birmingham, Ala., late Monday after Dr. James Andrews found no further damage in his left shoulder. Even though he said he wouldn't rush back, he reaffirmed his goal of facing the Vikings.

This is the best news I've seen this week.

I agree. These early reports show that Rumph is really a team player. I think he'll fit in well.

What is funny to me is that we need depth at the O-line position and we keep cutting guys. I know we are hurting in the dbackfield but shouldn't we make cuts elsewhere?

Well, at first I thought these guys would just be camp fodder, but they seem pretty solid to me.

Does it seem to anyone else like the Redskins are targeting bigger, more physical cornerbacks?

Speed is pretty important too eh?

We signed Battle & S Antuan Edwards. Battle missed all of last yr injured. in the 2 yrs he played, he had 24 tackles (all solo) 3 passes defended, no sacks no ints.

Edwards has played 7 yrs. in the last 3 he has 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 12 passes defended. Also 59 solo tackles, a8 assists. He has only played 18 games in the last 3 yrs.

We only cut 1 that I know of. Yesterday we signed 1. We still have 15 OL's on roster. The change is from 15 to 16 DB's & from 11 to 10 WR's.

He has to get healthy 1st. I doubt if he'll make the team, more likely PS.

I was actually very happy to see this signing. Battle came out of Tennessee, I believe, and was drafted in the third round a couple of years ago. He was supposed to shore up the Chief's spotty secondary/defense. When he came into TC last year, he was starting with the first team opposite Pat Surtain (Eric Warfield was serving a suspension because of multiple DUI's; William Bartee sucks; and Dexter McCleeon is/was old) almost out of necessity, but Dick Vermeil was really high on him. Halfway through camp, he blew out his knee, and in the ensuing news conference, Vermeil said that the team lost one of their best corners. He was really down about him being hurt, and once again, the Chiefs' secondary spent the year chasing after wide receivers who had blown past them at the line of scrimmage. Taking into account Vermeil's usual emotional outpourings/cries, I believe him when he says he was playing good for the Chiefs. If Battle has sufficiently recovered from his injury, he can really help us out. He's young, and he's fast.
