Reed Doughty

I was not impressed w/kenny wright or this cat and on the flea flicker I think ol Reed got caught trying to make like Sean Taylor and cover soo much ground that he could meet the RB for a 1 yard gain, problem is ST actually waits until the ball crosses the line of scrimmage before running up and stuffing the run, while Reed to do the same must leave his safety position almost as soon as the ball is snapped, poor DB and safety play all night and that just takes the wind out of your whole defense. Friggin Bengals.

Remember that he is a d2 safety and a rookie. Also, how many trick plays were used in the preseason. 2 and they were both by the bengals. I think that Marvin really wanted to beat us so he was willing to take some plays out there that would insure a defeat of Washington. Give Daughtery a couple of games. Williams loves the guy so that means I do too. Now Kenny Wright got picked on last night.

He made 1 rookie mistake in his 1st preseason game. He also made some good plays. Give the kid a break.

Doughty at least recovered and made the play. He was the first DB to recognize the flea flicker and react.

True dat. I remember around this time last year, Carlos Rogers getting burned and looking winded during his first few outings. He lloked bad earlier on, but turned out to be a beast as the season progressed.

You've hit the nail right on the head there. Marvin needed that win a whole lot more than Gibbs, because:
-The press and fans are tearing him a new one for drafting these fools who KEEP winding up in the back of a squad car.
-Chris Henry (Thug #1) was the primary recipient of those passes, more good P.R. to counteract the 4 arrests in 6 mo.
-He needed Anthony Wright to do something in case Palmer has a setback and can't start the season, got to give him some confidence if he winds up opening day starter.
Two flea flickers is ridiculous, you'll never see the Bungles run 'em again.

Another stat is that Daughtery led the team in tackles.

Marvin Lewis is wack as hell, he kept his starters in way longer then we did ours. And then when we put our 8th team he decides to do a flea flicker. If I was G Willams, I would have put Sean Taylor back in and told him if anybody comes through the middle kill them

Chill out dude! I've seen lots of veterans get fooled by flea flickers, that's why teams use them. Do you expect a rookie to be perfect in his 1st ever pro game?

I also thought Reed looked bogus. Not because of that one play, but he looks slow. If you're going to lack speed and quickness, you need to have a knack for making plays and a nose for the ball.
The only time he was around the ball was when it was in the arms of a person with the back of their jersey facing him. On the other hand, Pierson Prielou looks like he is getting better and better.

The Rumph trade means one less roster spot for a guy like Doughty.

Reed was the leading tackler, wasn't he?

Dude being the leading tackler in a game like that doesn't mean squat, look I wanted Reed to make the team, and I trust GW but the kid just didn't perform period and he wasn't alone

If the positives don't mean squat what does that say about the negatives?

you guys are missing it. It was the first preseason game. He is a rookie. He did better than McIntosh. Do you think he's going to get cut. If Williams can get this guy in there and teach him, he's a cheap backup at safety. Did he have a stellar night, no but he sure didn't have the kind of night that a lot of you are saying he did. He isn't slow, what you saw was him catching up on blown plays by the other CB's to save TD's.

He did better than McIntosh.
Whoa. I definately wouldn't go that far. Doughty was out of position most of the game and looked slow out there. Macintosh, atleast to me, was very impressive. He played with a lot of energy on defense and special teams. I was especially impressed when he stood up an olineman and pushed him out of the way to make a tackle.

How was Doughty better than Mcintosh? I don't agree with that at all.
Doughty looked very raw to me. He has a lot of work to do for him to deserve a spot on this team.

He's a rookie from a small school playing in his 1st ever pro game.
OF COURSE he looked raw. Did anyone expect him to play like a probowler right away?

So does Rocky...
Only difference is Rocky is competing for time with Holdman and Reed D is just trying to keep up with ST and double A.
McIntosh was a guy that we went after, Doughty was there when it was our turn to pick. Both are rookies trying to make the team. Rocky came into a better situation

Whoa there sparky...it was a joke...who needs to chill? I hope he improves....he got burned, hopefully he'll learn from it...it was just convenient that his last name was Bart Simpson-friendly

I hear ya man. I'm just not sure Doughty has the speed to play secondary in the NFL. It's early though, he's got a few more weeks to prove himself.

Easy, he led the team in tackles. He looked slow? I didn't see that. I've watched the game 3 times now and have yet to see what you guys are talking about. Was he out of place on some plays? I think so but I really don't know what his assignments are. Did he miss a tackle? Yes. But, if you rate him based on what it was, the first preseason game. New to a system. He did great in my opinion.

Doughty had a chance to make the team but now we got Rumph, sorry buddy. He did surprise by not looking lost out there, but he did not look as good as Rocky. Most of his tackles were pile-ons where he was awarded and i can remember 2 on ST. Maybe this guy could make it if Rumph goes to Corner but he isnt goin to make it over Rumph or Priouleau.
