NFL Officials to wear new uniforms this season.

I don't have a link, but I was reading NFL news on my cell phone today, and there's an article that says that NFL Officials will be wearing new duds this season.

Instead of wearing the traditional "Zebra" outfits, they'll now have a completely different look, including cold weather outfits that require black pants and very thing black stripes on the shirt with wide white stripes.

The warm weather uniforms will have white pants, but the same tops with very wide stripes, very narrow black stripes, and a flare along the shoulder. One comment said that the uniforms look more like Jockeys riding horses than NFL Referees.

Has anyone else heard this news? I'm gonna try and dig up a link and will post it if I come up with it.

Yeah, I saw that last night at the scrimmage. Personally, I think they look retarded.

I like the old zebras better, but honestly who cares?

In the offseason, even the officials jersies are fodder for discussion.
The season can't come quick enough.
I'm not sure I would've noticed the changed right away.

TC - Yes, the change was VERY noticeable. However, you might not have spotted them right away, as they seemed to disappear amidst the other unis on the field.

Personally, I think they should have kept the original designs and made them from the fabric used with the new unis. Thay looked very professional in the past. Now, as JF pointed out, they look like soccer players...with ball caps on.

Are they all going to wear the new glasses that let them look at an entirely different play from the one that actually occurs on the field?

These new ref unies look ridiculous. Why do officials need new unies anyway

Speaknig of officials, I struck up a conversation with the Head Line Judge (the ref) at the Practice yesterday, and he commented about the new look, how he'd rather stick to the traditional look.

However, he did note, that he'd wear it in a heartbeat, if given the chance. He says that the refs that work the training camp practices are not refs used by the league in NFL games (perhaps due to a conflict of interest).

The refs for TC are usually local refs that ref on the collegiate level.

The only times NFL-refs are at the training facilities are when they arrive to school the teams on rules changes.

BTW - The ref was a great guy, and his son sat in front of us, in the VIP section. As he walked toward practice, he quipped to his son, "Remember, you DON'T know me."

...you know, just in case he blew a call.

i agree, they are absolutely repulsive. it is just yet another example of the alarming "NASCAR-ing" of the NFL. several teams have recently disgraced the NFL by turning their honorable, traditional jersies into garish arena-league-esque atrocities (bills, cardinals, vikings). something needs to be done. god forbid this ever happens to the redskins, i think i would throw up my very soul from my body.
