but I don't think it will matter, it's just a random broken bone, it's not like a torn hamstring or some other nagging injury.

plus, it's not like he can play in 06 so his arm will be fine by next year, if anyone even wants him.

I live an hour and a half from where Ricky's playing, while his play may have been scrutinized, his behavior has not.... at all. He's been a good teammate and he's been very cool about his whole situation.

I guess he deserves to have his arm busted for acting so professionally.

Funny... I don't hear any of you talking about Mike Sellers' past indiscretions all that much. Let's see... suspended for drug use by the NFL... cut by his team... went to the CFL and got clean AND resurrected his football career, and came back to the NFL not only sober, but ready to play football.

Im really pulling for this guy. I believe his last infraction against the NFL was simply a misunderstanding. I hope that he can get his act together and maybe become a bit more proactive about his situation. If he can make it back to the NFL I hope he lights (no pun intended) it back up.

He'd destroy people in a Gibbs system. If Gibbs was 15 years younger I wouldnt have minded if Gibbs brought him aboard. Not only would Ricky flourish in a Gibbs system, I think that Gibbs would be able to keep him straight.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario -- Ricky Williams had successful surgery on his broken left forearm, but there is no timetable for his return to the CFL's Toronto Argonauts.

Williams was hurt Saturday night in the first half of the Argonauts' 26-23 win over Saskatchewan when he used his hand to break his fall on the turf at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

The running back underwent surgery for an hour on Sunday, and the team said Monday that the operation was "by all accounts successful."

Williams is expected to miss at least four to six weeks of the CFL season. Argonauts coach Michael (Pinball) Clemons will provide a possible return date for Williams early next week, the team said.

He is playing in the CFL because he was suspended by the NFL for one year after a fourth positive drug test. Williams is still under contract with the Miami Dolphins.

You have a lot of feelings about this, and I don't know if it's because he's playing in Canada now or if it's because he's injured and nobody (prior to your post, as always... ) was really upset about it.

Williams has been given so many opportunities to make the most of his natural ability, and thrown them all out the window. Would you agree that his demeanor, upon returning to the Dolphins, was considered professional? He apologized profusely, stuck his nose to the grindstone, played hard...and smoked again...after he'd sworn it off for good (again).
You're comparing him to Mike Sellers? Wasn't that the DWI while he was still with Robiskie over there in Cleveland? Wasn't it a one shot deal with him? Did Sellers abandon his team, and beg to come back when he ran out of money to drink...and then shaft them again? Not to my knowledge, he didn't. The comparision holds no water. You could find a half-dozen parallels in Dallas, but not with Sellers.
You should know by now. I'm a big fan of both Ditka and Williams.

I wonder what struck a nerve with you, since you don't usually jump on things like this. The injury is not life-threatening. It may be season-thrreatening, but that's it. Ricky is going to get yet another chance to make it in the NFL, no matter what I say about it. NFL teams, in general, have a great deal of tolerance for offenders that have the potential to put asses in chairs.

If that had been it then yeah I'd understand your post, but Ricky disputed the positive and lost (he had never challenged the results in the past). He went on with his career trying to get back on track and to stay in shape while being suspended.

He was hurt while doing so and some find that funny. Had he been hit by a bus while lighting a blunt, that would have been funny. But breaking your arm while trying to make a living isn't funny and it doesn't matter which side of the border you are on.

Why would you offer up a deal on a guy that is due to miss about a month halfway through? He was smoking bud, he didn't lose his mind. He was smart enough to look up North when he was banned on this side of the border. Why would he screw that up?

You pointed out he's not peeing in a cup for the CFL, even more of a reason to keep the doors open there - if he's what you says he is.

I don't get it but if you can enlighten me as to how this is funny or why you think a broken arm will cause a guy to quit playing I'd appreciate it

Well, that's a personal choice, I guess. Here's why I stand where I do.
I have never been very tolerant of bad teammates. Not as a father, not as a fan and not as a coach. There's all kinds of ways to be a bad teammate, Niks. You could do it by showboating, by chest-thumping, by back stabbing, by taking plays off, by freelancing, by popping off in the media, or by suddenly retiring by publicly stating you'd rather smoke weed. You can exacerbate that by coming back, asking for a clean slate and forgiveness...and once again betraying the trust.
I think a canvass of Dolphins is in order before we assume that they all think this is just "no big deal". I don't know that for sure, and I didn't claim to. I'm speaking for myself. I would find it hard to believe that they've forgotten about it (as they did the first time) and that they're waiting for him to come back.
I know that Dophins management has only agreed to let Williams play for the Argos because it's been agreed that he'll return to the team in '07, but that doesn't mean anything to the players. Don't forget...he bailed right before camp started in 2004...and told Mike Wallace that it was because he didn't want to be in the public eye when all the failed test stuff came out. Bear in mind, my friend. This is a man who's failed 4 tests...and would not agree to a deal with the NFL to return to his team in '06 with weekly testing stipulated. He's also on the hook for $4600 a month child support for one of his five kids. He has to work.
Look. I didn't throw in my lot with Theismann when he went after the Argos (his old team, BTW) for signing Williams. He made it a moral issue, even as his own son was arrested on a similar charge. My soapbox has TEAM detergent in it. I don't feel sorry for him for one minute. Lots of people have SAD. Most of them take their Paxil and go on with their lives. They don't take up grass and ditch their responsibilities...and come crawling back when the money runs out.

I see you're bringing ST into it. I've never really stood behind his antics, either. I've gone so far as to say he's a "stupid kid", I think. And the spitting thing? Forget about it. I went to town on him for that. ( You've got the wrong poster if you think that I stick up for people who do stupid things just because they're on my favorite team.) Here's the difference, in my opinion. Sean is 21 years old. Ricky is 30, now. Sean's problem has been his thuggish antics, which have only threatened to hurt his team in the long term (by the possibility of an extended absence)...but that never came to fruition. Remember when Sean complained about the money? Did he quit? Retire? Become a Shaman in the jungles of India (unless India has no jungles )? Did he go on "60 Minutes" and say, "I did what I did because I'm sick...and I'll never do it again"....and then repeat the original offense?
Ricky did not dispute the positive test. He disputed that the drug he tested positive for was illegal. All anybody knows about it is that it wasn't pot...but a "Holistic Herb" from India.
....and I don't think he's going to "quit" because of a broken arm. Ricky only quits altogether if the CFL holds him to being clean. What I'm saying is, I don't think he'll be out there, wholeheartedly supporting his team on GameDay. (I just know somebody is going to post a pic showing that he is). I think Ricky Williams is going to say he's rehabbing his arm, and will be largely invisible.

There's also no room in my heart for pity towards a man (with four failed drug tests) who thinks only of himself. It is my firm belief that he is playing in Toronto not for contrition, absolution or to prove that he can riiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssse above the addiction...but because he needs the money for weed.

Sellers was pulled over for driving erractic, yes. The cops found some weed and coke, He left the Browns and went back to the CFL. Played there and two years later Gibbs went and got him.

Ricky ran to India thinking it would make everything go away it didn't. Again his team forgave him and he rejoined them. Even after screwing up again his coach stood by him, and let him play in the CFL.

....Riggo did kinda quit on us for a little while, there. I have no defense for that.
He more than made up for it...and there was no follow-up transgression, really...but he did quit on us over money, as I recall.

I don't really think this whole rant deserves comment but I'll briefly sum up some errors and misconceptions...

I really don't know why it's presumed that I have some personal agenda here... it just sickens me when anyone cheers injury to anyone.... doesn't really matter who it is. Somehow you seem to have misconstrued that as caring.

I live two hours from where Ricky plays and have watched daily as the media scrutinize him and wait for him to screw up... he hasn't yet and has actually been a really cool guy to his teammates. I don't have time to dig up quotes and articles while i'm down here at camp... i don't really even have time to make this post... but since you seem to be addressing me personally for some reason... I am.

Will Ricky screw up again? I don't know. Do I care? Not really.

But it doesn't mean I want the guy to go out and get hurt either. Nor does it mean that I think the guy will return to the NFL like nothing ever happened.

If you don't see any comparison between Sellers and Ricky that's your prerogative... I certainly wasn't trying to make a case for them being completely symbiotic, just saying that Sellers got in trouble, headed north, kicked his habits, and returned with splendor.

As for what to do if 'you're wrong' or what I should do if 'I'm wrong'... I'm an adult, I don't need to make some game out of it. Nor do I want you to ever make a donation to some charity on THN's behalf. Why don't you save your money and take an extra day off some time... seems like you definitely need it.
