Just a heads up...

The board will be closed for a little bit either this weekend or next to do a much needed upgrade on the message board software. I don't know for sure which weekend it will be, nor do I know if I'll be able to give you lots of advanced warning.

So if you login at some point, and the board is closed.... fret not... it will only be down for 24 hours or less while we make the changes.

Despite the inconvenience, this upgrade is not only neccessary but imperative and must be done.

You also may find that when the new board comes up that there are some 'board conveniences' that you're used to that aren't there. please be patient, they will all likely be added eventually, but it's a big job and maintaining our member's data is our only real concern at the moment.

Once the new board is up, we shopuld be able to look at adding people's avatars back etc etc.

Thanks.

He's "visioning"... and getting in a little pre-emptive brown-nosing at the same time. Brilliant!

The upgrade is for security reasons, there likely won't be too, too many changes on the board... at least not right away. The goal is a smoothless transition with 100% data integrity kept.

I will be building in some new features, as well as having to build in the 'old' features that were already built into the 'old version'. So at first, the board may even be missing a few things until I can get everything re-installed properly.

But the new site is almost ready as well. While we'd like to do everything at the same time, we may have to have two successive 'short shutdowns' for upgrades.

BUT... reception on the new version has been very, very positive. We think that not only will the people of this community appreciate it greatly, but Redskin fans everywhere. There's a LOT of information, and hopefully in what the users will find a very user friendly, simple to navigate COMPREHENSIVE Redskins site.

But I will post on the board as soon as I have a confirmed date and time for the shut down, I just wanted to give some advance notice in case I don't get much notice myself.

I don't envy you the job of upgrading and moving an up-and-running complex of operating databases. It's huge. I just hope that people here appreciate how diffucult it is.

Thank you, BH. I know how much work this is.

Where will I go for all of my up to date Redskins information?

I don't want to go to the dark side but I may not be able to resist the temptation.

Thanks for keeping things up and going Boss.

Trust me folks, it will be well worth the wait.

24 hours or less down time - it'll be like the night before christmas. The next day you get a new toy to play with.

The kind folks at Doreo will be helping move the database, so my workload is considerably lessened... although the fact that the board software needs to be re-done from scratch as it has grown too modified to simply upgrade makes it a lot more interesting as you will likely understand... and there are a lot of modifications and customizations that have to be restored POST 'upgrade'.

But to be honest... even with all of that... the board upgrade is nothing on the site makeover. Redesigning dozens and dozens.... actually probably hundreds of individual pages from the ground up has been a loooooong process. New databases, front and back ends, new front and back ends for old databases... all the new pages... a monumental task that even I underestimated despite knowing the scope.

Add to that the fact that you guys are going to see a lot of NEW stuff to go along with the new digs, and the board upgrade and you have a project of nth degree, I don't mind telling you.

But the new site is HOT! Even I think it's hot and I hate everything I do.

I hope you guys will like it.... actually I KNOW you guys are going to like it. That's why I put a 'Donate' button at the bottom of every page.

Oh no, not more information. I don't get out much as it is.

I don't understand half of this technical stuff, but I know when to be grateful for other people's efforts - may be time to dust off the PayPal password again!

That "PayPal" button was one of my favorites, and I visited it regularly until it disappeared.
I'll be looking forward to seeing it again.

A DONUT button to go along with the upgrade!! That's awsome, I can't believe all of the wonderful Redskin news and free donut's. One question, after we push the button how do we get our donut's?

My bad, "donate" that makes more since. I'll be sure to use it. Besides I like jelly donuts and I'm sure that would screw up my computer some how.:)

Sorry folks... the web hosts didn't have a chance to do the board changeover last weekend... hopefully they will this weekend.

I'll let you know in advance if I can.

Just an update, but there's a rumor going around that the web hosts might be able to do the changeover today aound noon central. If they can, you can expect the board to be down for a couple of hours this afternoon, and you can expect a couple of hours of working out the poltergeists after that as well.

Well worth it, as a secure board is a happy board. We apologize for the inconvenience but we hope to make the pain short-lived.

Thanks.

It shouldn't be too bad. Its been dragging around here due to the offseason lull. Better now than during week 2.

Well folks, it's official.

The board will be closed at 11:55p Central... that's about 20 minutes from now.

I'll try make it as brief as i can and it will take me some time to get everything restored once the board is up and running.

You can bitch and complain about your favorite feature being missing all you like, I won't be listening. :-"

Thanks.
